There are literally blind people who can shoot better than Los Angeles cops:
Ten Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies opened fire early Monday on an SUV they were chasing, discharging 120 rounds in a frenzied crossfire that injured a deputy and the unarmed suspect while sending bullets into nearby homes.
Wow. By my calculations, the suspect should’ve ended up as a ragged chunk of hamburger.
Alas, he’s fine:
Hayes was struck four times, in the toe, finger and shoulder. He was listed in stable condition at Torrance Harbor General Hospital on Monday afternoon.
People can argue whether cops should fire at fleeing suspects, or debate if the amount of gunfire was excessive. I’ll leave that debate for another day.
Here’s something no one can disagree with: A 3.3% accuracy rate is un-freakin’-acceptable. Memo to the Boys in Black: those are the taxpayers’ bullets. Everytime one of them leaves the muzzle, it needs to end up in a bad guy’s 10-ring. I mean, really, four hits out of 120 shots? And two of them barely count, since they were in digits.
With apologies to Ron White, let’s turn these cops loose in a video arcade with a big ol’ sack of quarters, and tell them they can go back to work when they learn how to shoot.
CORRECTION: LST reader and former SoCal resident David Woerner points out that these weren’t the "boys in black." Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies wear khaki.

Mr. Bramanti hit the nail on the head! When I first heard this story yesterday, my husband and I were quite alarmed by the unspoken statistics. The percentage number of (in)accuracy that we were speculating only worsened when calculating the total number of officers involved.
Why waste money on quarters. Get them some super soaker water pistols instead! Jeez!
LAPD are known for their hand to hand prowess, duh! You expect them to master TWO forms of combat?? Jeez, I bet next youll say they cant use their flashlights when beating a suspe i mean bad guy.

Well, dang, as an ex-citizen of California (the only other State in the lower 48 that was once a sovereign nation), I’m gonna have to give you this one…
What a pathetic bit of marksmanship. Festus could’ve done better pulling the trigger with the toes of his bum leg while in the process of working off a hangover from the back of a bucking bronc…
Not that the guy deserved to die… I mean, what are these black-shirts doing, popping off at an unarmed SUV driver? And using the homes of indiginous citizens as a backstop?

What about the victim?? What was the excuse given for busting 120 shots at an unarmed man anyway?? That’s ridiculous. What did he do to get shot at?? Probably something fickle like outdated tag. LA cops just plain suckĀ BRAMANTI RESPONDS: Uh, "victim?" Sorry, that one doesn’t wash. The cops were responding to a report of gunfire from a vehicle matching the suspect’s description. After leading the cops on a chase through a residential neighborhood, the "victim" then drove his car at an occupied house before cops managed to stop him. This wasn’t a case of police brutality. Hell, these cops couldn’t brutalize the broad side of a barn.
All the 13 colonies were independent republics after the Revolution of 1776. The idea that Texas, and as ykou say California, were the only independent republics in the Union is a deliberate distortion of history. That crooked version of history was and is promulgated by the worshippers of Lincoln tha believe that “the Union predates the States.”
I highly recommend that you read (re-read?) the last part of the the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Paris of 1784. The former colonies were declared “free and independent States.”
This was not the L.A. Police Department, as you imply. The LAPD wears dark Navy blue, which I assume leads to your "boys in black" reference. This was L.A. County Sheriffs, who wear khaki. In the mid-1970’s in California there was a move made to put police departments in blue exclusively, and others such as sheriffs, constables, Highway Patrol, etc. in khaki. I lived in Buena Park at the time and the Buena Park P.D. converted from khaki to blue uniforms. BRAMANTI RESPONDS: Thanks for the correction, David.
LAPD are arrogant, lousy and have no fricken clue. I just called a few weeks ago and filed a report about a transient threatening to kill me when I asked him to leave my property. I have called at least 5 times since, once at midnight when this person had the nerve to return and they have done NOTHING!! The officer taking my report actually had the gaul to tell me this loser trespassing on my property HAD THE RIGHT TO BECAUSE WE DIDN’T HAVE ‘NO TRESPASSING’ SIGNS ON THE BUILDING!!! Another sign of our country going to hell, and so much for my taxpayer dollars protecting me.
I thihnk the law enforcement in California is in trouble. If your going to shoot, at least hit the bad guys.
TO FIRE 120 ROUNDS AT AN UNARMED SUSPECT, FELONY OR NOT, IS A CRIME BY ITSELF. TO SCORE ONLY 4 HITS IS ANOTHER CRIME. PERHAPS THE BOYS IN KHAKI NEED A TOUR OF DUTY IN IRAQ. WOULD TEACH THEM RESPECT FOR HUMAN LIFE AND SHARPEN THEIR OBVIOUSLY MISSING COMBAT SKILLS.
I can’t help wondering two things: How it was that they wounded Hays in the toe, and why they either didn’t try or were unable to disable the SUV by shooting the tires.
