One Response to “Public-access TV now profane, still crappy”

Public-access television is an anachronism and should be eliminated.

Yes, maybe back in the 1980s and early 1990s it made some sense to provide a public broadcast forum for unusual and fringe groups - the KKK, UFOlogists, art students, conspiracy theorists, et al - who might otherwise not be able to get their message out, but we now have this wonderful medium called the Internet. Now, for a few dollars, you can rent a web site, set up a blog, and stream all the wacko videos that you want. And you’ll reach a world-wide audience, not just Houston insomniacs with cable.

Public-access television is longer needed and should be defunded. Of course, no entrenched bureaucracy ever dies. I’ll bet that the City is still paying into some public-access buggy whip program.
