I signed up on the http://www.harriscountycitizencorps.com website and filled out a template to volunteer. It was not specific to Hurrican Katrina so I was afraid it would be lost in the bureaucratic shuffle however I just received the following email from Mark Sloan from Judge Eckles’ office so it looks like this is the correct way to sign up.

From: Mark T. Sloan (County Judge’s Office)
Re: Harris County Citizen Corps: Katrina Update

Thank you to all who responded to assist today.

    Astrodome information:

As you know a request was sent to ask if you, your company, and organization
would be able to help. Over 500 e-mails have been received.

DO NOT SELF DEPLOY TO THE ASTRODOME!

The planning and logistics are still ongoing, as information becomes
available and specific requests are submitted it will be sent via e-mail.
If you forward this e-mail have everyone who is interested sign up on the
    website http://www.harriscountycitizencorps.com.

Where can donations of clothing be dropped off for these people?

I clicked on the link and filled out the volunteer form. Do I just wait to hear from them?
I tried to call the number but I got one of those “fast” busy signals which usually indicates out of order. However, they could be overwhelmed with phone calls. So, what do I do next? This situation has weiged heavily on my heart. I live in Lake Jackson and it could have easily been us. I want to help in any way I can. Thank you for having this set up via your website.

My wife & I are available to help with the refugees who are coming to our City. We can help with food preparation, food service, dispensing of water, clothing or other basic necessities. We have transportation and can get to the Reliant Park area on our own.

How long will it be before Queen Sheila J. Lee makes it to the dome and all the cameras there? Bet it isn’t long.
