Simply awesome parody, although rather slanderous to an otherwise fine western swing band. The naive left may never come to understand that electing unprepared politicians to positions of authority has it’s drawbacks. But, maybe we can convince some of them to appoint Sean Penn as honorary Port of New Orleans Safety Director.
This Toon deserves a “Top Ten” list of captions of what the mayor is thinking or saying:
1) Please!!! When I awaken from my drunken stupper, don’t let this nightmare become a reality show.
2) Well, if nothing else, I can at least pickup the looters and help them with their stuff.
3) Come on governor, there’s plenty of room on this “bus of blame”. We can both blame President Bush.
4) I am going to fire my chief of staff for not getting me one of those air conditioned buses.
5) Welcome to New Orleans, let me take you on a tour of our fine city.
6) Let’s see if I can “drive” this city into the ground.
7) I thought I was elected mayor of a party town. Who said I had to be responsible for anything??
9) Let’s party hardy because there’s no tommorrow for me after this fine mess I let the city get itself into.
10) Mayor!! Quit pumping on the gas pedal—you’ll FLOOD the engine.
The mayor and the governor had better hope there is not going to be any congressional hearings because as the Fox News reported it, they are to blame. Because responsibility starts at the city level, then the state and finally the federal government.
Good one.
This guy STILL can’t decide make them leave or not. What a joke.
Jean,
Far be it from me to defend the blame slinging mayor, but he has, at long last, decided to make them leave. Talk about a day late and a dollar short.
In a fit of sanity Ray and the gang has finally decided to forcibly evacuate the hold overs.

Mayor: Everyone Must Evacuate
and in further news I noticed that the blogosphere is picking up on the
“Ray Nagin Memorial Motorpool” theme. Ya gotta love it. Did LST coin the phrase????? The three below showed up in a Google news search and I have noticed the title showing up in 10 other blogs I read.

The Color of Character
Jawa Report
In New Orleans we have a mayor who left some 400-500 buses sitting fueled and underwater in the Ray Nagin Memorial Motor Pool saying that evil white
Mike,
I should have clarified, yesterday he said that, then they reported well they may force them, then today- must go!
It is a confusing mess.
While Broussard- Jeff Parish Prez. bashes and accuses murder for rescue forces not showing up in time; he then let’s his people come to get their stuff which cloggs the highways all day and deters the rest of the convoys from getting in.
I appreciate the fact letting them back for gathering, but it could have waited one more day for the convoys to get through! They were supposed to leave that day; then Thurs; now well they can stay if they want.
The whole situation has so much confusion and mixed messages no wonder accomplishments are slow down there.
Is this the first in a series? Now that you’ve done Nagin, a Republican (changed party in 2002 to run for mayor) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_Nagin when can we collect the Michael D(oes’nt know jack). Brown card?
I wish I had said it, “You can lead a former horse association lawyer to water, but evidently not very fast.”
A tip-o-the-tin foil to Pat Seremet of the Hartford Courant.
To Wil Barnes,
Would we be needing to go up the chain of command, if the mayor and then the governor had done their jobs. They did have a plan in place which they did not activate. They did have warnings of a pending storm which they did not heed. They did have plenty of time to react, even if they had to have 24 hours to think about it. So let’s not be quick to jump to the back of the line as far as blame goes. Remember each level of government thinks they can take care of and know the needs of their constituents better than those above them.
They don’t like somebody else telling them what to do, so let’s not be quick to skip from to mayor to FEMA without forgeting the governor.
You know I was reading up on ole Nagin, and actually it sounds like before this happened he was attempting to do some things there. He was called white boy by some long time officials, and was thwarted at many sections.
I’m not saying he doesn’t bare responsibility for his actions or lack of, but maybe we should watch the charecter assasination a bit here.
He is obviously not a strong enough leader and for that he needs to go. Iwas watching him on a press statement yesterday saying “where was you?” I know the lingo down there, but a politician should do a bit better if he going to set an example.
Houstonians should thank their lucky stars that it did not happen here and Brown was not the mayor.
I am still waiting for former mayor Brown to refund all his salaries since he did not do the job he was elected for .
This is what happens when a candidate is elected not because he is qualified but he is a brother.
I see similarity with Mayor Nagin.
This link really drives home the point. BTW Pg13 might be an appropriate rating.

With a name like http://www.barking-moonbat.com I best give a hat tip.
I like the cartoon. Now all you need is picture of a bus with the words Border Security painted on the sides and a picture G.W. Bush driving while asleep behind the wheel.
