Lefty Moonbats grab Chron’s DeLay smear
by David Benzion · 09/09/2005 5:00 pmGiven the Houston Chronicle’s well-documented track-record of hostility towards Tom DeLay, we’d consider them the last information source on Earth for an accurate description of any conversation he might have with the evacuees down at the Astrodome.
So it is with a Texas-sized lick of salt that we read this post by Chron reporter Purva Patel:
U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay’s visit to Reliant Park this morning offered him a glimpse of what it’s like to be living in shelter.
While on the tour with top administration officials from Washington, including U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao and U.S. Treasury Secretary John W. Snow, DeLay stopped to chat with three young boys resting on cots.
The congressman likened their stay to being at camp and asked, "Now tell me the truth boys, is this kind of fun?"
They nodded yes, but looked perplexed.
We haven’t seen or heard a tape of the exchange yet– and neither has anyone else. But that hasn’t stopped the lefty moonbat blogosphere from whipping itself into a frenzy of righteous indignation and anticipation of negative political fallout for DeLay.
Too bad no one else remembers things that way. Contacted by LST, Harris County Judge Robert Eckels said the following:
"I don’t remember hearing that exchange, but it wouldn’t surprise me, and I don’t see what the big deal would be if he had said it."
"All of us are down here trying to encourage these kids and get them to focus on the future as much as possible. They’ve been through a severely traumatic event, and all of us are trying to encourage them by talking about their new schools, the new friends they will make."
"Many of us have tried to help them think about sleeping on a cot for a little while by making reference to ‘camping.’ So I just don’t see, unless your motivated by malice, how you could take those sorts of comments and portray them as ‘insensitive.’"
"The kids enjoyed the visit, I haven’t heard from anyone who was offended, and given Tom’s work with abused and neglected kids, I’ve got to believe this is someone trying to make much ado about nothing."

That’s odd, Mayor Nagin told the entire city of New Orleans, before Katrina hit, that people could go to the Superdome with their own water and food and sleeping bags, “like camping out” — but I haven’t heard a Moonbat barking over that one!
I guess the Chron is out to be known as the number one Texas source for the Moonbat blogs!
“given Tom’s work with abused and neglected kids, I’ve got to believe this is someone trying to make much ado about nothing.”
That was my first thought he opened a foster home right? I just can’t imagine him sounding offensive even if he made the statement.
I tell ya, I saw Tom Delay kick a little black kid and then beat up his mom. Yep, right thar in the dome. To bad his dad wasnt around or he woulda got a whuppin too. I think Tom Delay hates black people too just like GWB.
This is ridiculous. So Tom DeLay is trying to make some sort of attempt to soften the blow of this horrible situation to a couple boys - I am assuming they were fairly young - and he’s being made out as some sort of insensitive jerk? Give me a break. How many of us, as parents, have allowed our kids to “camp” in our room during a storm or a power outage? It’s not that far-fetched to get kids talking about “camping out” when they’re away from home, especially under less-than-ideal circumstances.
This political correctness crappola is way out of hand. Tom DeLay has more true compassion for the folks in his little finger than than all his critics combined.
Oh and Greg that was the right Rev Jackson you saw. Clean them glasses son. Jesse and company’s greatest fear is that the folks that they have kept kicked down on the plantation are going to start listening to KSEV and learn how much better life is here off the plantation.
The more I think about it is like camp. I was always afraid being away from home and thought I might get into a fight with someone. It always rained too.
Additionally for the Chron: I saw Tom Delay take someones debit card and give it to Haliburton so they could shred it.
Hmmm, get paid $2000.00 to go camping. Sure, why not? Those poor schmucks from LA who had jobs and owned homes didn’t get squat.
The mistake FEMA made was telling the people they were giving away free money. They should have said anyone who wants a job come to this line. The few who actually showed up would get the debit card. They would only have passed out about 5 of them.
It has been well known for quite some time that Tom Delay only likes white people (he really likes GW Bush and Haliburton) but he also has the capability of making a hurricane go wherever he wants it to go. He was angry with Florida last year and this year he was pissed at Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. I sure am glad he lives in Texas!!
It’s E-C-K-E-L-S.
Always has been, always will be.
It’s not ECKLES, now stop it already!
