Funny you mention the firearms… A friend of mine from NJ just got back from a business trip in Houston. He said that a lot of the conversations he was hearing, both on his trip and in the airport, were all about how people were stocking up on ammo. I guess theres not going to be much looting in TX…

What is funny is that I have folks that come in from Boston and NY and other states and make their trip coincide with a gun show in Dallas.

They want to take my 9MM. 357 or my my 40, my SKS or 35 caliber camp rifle, et al and anything I got and go to the gun range.

Pictures I send to them of feral hog hunts they frame and hang up at work.

They all want to shoot. They get hard-ons when I open up the gun safe and show them the 30-30 and the the 10 gauge Goose gun or my Army MP 12 guage shot gun with red dot sites and side saddle shell holder and has them making liquid in their pants.

After Katrina my husband and I decided to get some protection. We didn’t have time. I sent my parents to Fort Worth on Wednesday. Then I grabbed my Dad’s 12 gauge shotgun. I will never be without one again.

  7. gregg on September 23rd, 2005 at 8:18 pm

    357 Ruger with hollow points.
I thought about putting some Nikes on a string and pulling them thru the street kinda like trollin for fish. When we get a hit we shoot it.

M1991A1 Colt .45 ACP with 5 mags holding 8 rounds each, and a TZ-75 9mm with three mags holding 15 round each. And a 24 inch machette.

Okay, as of now, here’s the tally for the Official Lone Star Times Reader’s Choice caliber:

The .45 and .357 are tied, with four votes each. Tied for the runner-up is the .40 and 12-gauge, with three votes apiece.

    Ruger 357 Blackhawk
    Winchester 30-30 Model 94
Ruger 12 Gauge for any skeet that try anything funny.

I still have power but it is getting crazy over here in the Bellaire area. I had a potted plant blow over a few minutes ago!

    Wow, Matt,

    Your such a BAAAAAAAADasssssssss.

Exactly how many people have you killed or mamed with those bad boy weapons of yours? How many times have you actually shot at someone?

  13. Matt Bramanti on September 24th, 2005 at 6:41 am

I guess the trolls get up pretty early.

“To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.” -George Washington, 1/8/1790

But what the hell would he know, right Vic?

  14. Vic on September 24th, 2005 at 8:14 am

    Bramanti,

Trolls are up looking for oil on the other side of the world. Someone with some balls has to brave the world to get what the American consumer wants.

Glad to see your responses are par for the course (Avoiding the question. Your bark is worse than your bite, which is zero). Have fun shooting, oops, i mean cleaning, your weapons!

I know that some poor people are stupid, but why do they always go for the Wal-Mart to loot? Is it because they know the layout and where the good stuff is? If I were going to loot I would go to a higher end place and get some top end stuff. Make the loot worth the risk.

I guess these people are poor because they arent too bright in the first place.

Maybe we need to offer these people looter awareness programs and show them how to do it properly. Maybe Wal-Mart can put out a video on the propper way. They can use glass on their windows that can be pulled out easy so the looters dont have to break it and get cut. Maybe have lighted isles to help them navigate the darkness to the good stuff so they dont wind up on the kitchen utencil isle.

We need to help these people, they obviously are too damn stupid to help themselves.

    Matt,

Remember, Liberalism is a mental disorder. Don’t let anyone try to talk you out of honing your skills with your Second Amendment tools.

When I lived in Fairbanks, AK back in the late 1970’s, I could not fit all my weapons in the gun safe. Except for cleaning and air travel back to the lower-48 states, they were always loaded.

I never had to shoot anyone, but due to my job at the time, I did have occasion to lift my jacket and place my hand on the grip of my 9-MM Browning Hi-Power a few times to send a clear message that if they were looking for trouble, they had found it.

One lesson I learned was that I just had collected one too many “tools” of various calibre. It took many hours to reload the .45, .357, .38 special, and 9-mm brass (time spent on the rifles seemed even worse), just to blow it all off in a couple of hours of target practice on the weekend.

My wife and I both have 9-mm automatics, and there’s a snub-nosed 38 in the bedroom. Oh, yeah! And, a trusty 12-gauge pump riot gun locked and loaded.

I am currently packing my Canon 350d, my Sony P7, and my water pistol. Like my politics, I’m pretty darn liberal with my shooting. Beware!

I also packed the requisite sense of humor necessary to make the thirteen-hour trek to Katy two days ago.

    Matt,

    My home defenses:

Main front door security: 12 GA riot gun and .410 side by side for my wife and defense partner.

Bedroom security: Mark IV series 70 .45 cal.

Backups: Coonan .357 Mag Auto, Rossi .357 Mag lever gun, Ar 15 with tons of ammo (my fun gun), Ruger MK II .22 (scoped…my wife’s fun gun).

We are in the country, and have not had bandits of the human kind yet, just the furry ones that we encourage with leftovers.

It is also nice that we can set up targets in the back yard, shoot(we are heavily wooded), and not have flashing lights show up. I think that the sound of occasional gunfire puts people on notice (WE ARE ARMED!). We did have a Constable show up a couple years ago to watch. He wound up doing some target practice, and we enjoyed his visit.

Some of our neighbors have had problems with attempted break-ins, and MOST are now armed, even older people. We have had several cases of people holding robbers at gunpoint until help arrived.

    Rita:

Our Rita experience was OK, thank the lord!

My brother and family in Pearland TX evacuated Wed and Thurs morning.
My mom was in an assiated living there and he brought here Wed. to Brookshire TX to weather the storm at the Nursing facility. After he got here, they evacuated also, so we moved her to our place near Pattison TX. They were heading for Austin FT Worth and never made it. They hunkered down at Conroe with other family members who were planning to leave also.

The storm looked really bad coming in and we were prepared to evac to Royal HS. When Rita finally weakened and turned, we decided to stay and weather it out. If it had stayed at cat 4 or 5, we would not have had any other choice.
