Via the Associated Press:
Plunging into what will likely be the toughest — and final — campaign in a political career that has spanned seven decades, Democrat Robert C. Byrd on Tuesday kicked off his bid for a record ninth term.
"I have the best job in America because I represent you, the people of West Virginia. And I want to keep this job," the 87-year-old Byrd told several hundred supporters who packed the state Capitol Rotunda.
Long-time supporters listen raptly to Byrd’s announcement
Byrd told the AP he was ready for another campaign.
"Show me another 87-year-old man who’s got the energy that I’ve got, and I’ll eat your hat," he said.
Hmm… wonder what kind of hat he prefers?

I’ll provide mayo or mustard, the Senators choice. See attached regarding long time fitness proponent Jack La Lanne:

Senator Byrd is the poster child for what is wrong with the Senate. Too many incumbents who view the job as some sort of entitlement. This guy shovels out so much pork that he should list his occupation as pig-farmer instead of Senator.
The cure is obvious. Vote the #$%tards out!

It’s no wonder the Democratic Party is in the fix that it is in with people like Byrd running for reelection. No new ideas, no young leadership, just the same old rhetoric, this is the perfect formula for failing. In Byrd’s case, older did not make him any wiser and just because he’s been there longer doesn’t make him any better. What does he have to show for all those years of service?? What does it say for the voters of his state, if that state hasn’t grown over his terms in office? Just like most Democrats he has pimped his constituents and the state has not progressed into the 21st century. The real question is can he survive a full term or will they have to prop him up during Congressional sessions. So good for the Democrats, they showed they still want to stay behind in the times.

I hear Walmart has a sale on white sheets in his honor

For Robert:
You’re right on the money! Byrd, Pelosi, Kennedy, Dean, Clinton, Schumer, the list is a fairly long one. All the same old rhetoric, all the same old stale promises, all of the anti-everything. I hope they all get re-elected and keep repeating the same old crapola. The last eight years with the Dems out of power will be turn into eight more and eight more and …..Well, you get the picture.

Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty….

But truly who is at more fault…
Big Old Byrd himself in congress… or the people who keep putting him there?
September 27th, 2005 at 5:41 pm
I think he has the wrong finger stuck up in the air at the press.
And jeffd said it best. The people who keep putting him there share equal shame and equal blame.
Well, he did not say all of that. jeffd is really my puppet and I put the other words there. It was a throw your voice course I bought from a gum wrapper.

Well ummm maybe not. Don’t know if you have ever been to W. Va., you cannot go to the out house without seeing a sign like the “Robert C. Byrd Memorial” whatever. He has buildings, bridges and roads etc. named after him throughout West Virginia. The guy even has a space telescope named after him. The boy knows how to bring home the pork.
He has the name recognition and the pork grabbing record. I fear he’ll be back

Deke,
Energy Secretary? Yes! Man, I’m honored and well qualified. I’ve got all kinds of energy after being cooped up in the house all weekend.

You are going to have to wonder with name recognition and pork grabbing abilities, why is the state still operating behind the times. Byrd isn’t much of a Senator if he can’t push the state’s main commodity–coal!!!! Oh, I forgot, his Democratic, environmentalist buddies don’t want the pollutin problem coal produces. What is the old man to do, caught between a rock (of coal) and a hard spot!!!!!!!!! Hence, the problem with the state.
