BALI, Indonesia — Several explosions occurred almost simultaneously Saturday in tourist areas of Bali island (search), causing casualties, police and a private Indonesian radio station said. A witness told the radio station at least two people were killed.
____________________________________________________ I guess they don’t know for sure yet if this is the handywork of the “religion of peace”, but that would be my early guess.
We need legislation to create the regionalization of TXDOT…make it answerable to a “council of governments” instead of the good-ole-boy, rural network of numb-nuts. Evacuation issues are one thing but overall mobility in/near major metropolitan areas needs immediate improvement.
Outlaw escorted funeral processions on the freeways of Houston. I think Houston may be the only major Texas city to allow processions on major lanes of traffic. The processions are not the problem as much as the egomaniacal, motorcycle escorts!
This is for Edd Hendee. We know you blog. How bout adopting a true New Orleans chef and add Taste Of NO to your restaurant. We need some true cajun cooking on this side of town. Not just the standard stuff I mean the GOOD stuff you can only get in NO. You can pay me in food if you adopt the idea. Just call me at BR549.
So over 2 mil evacuated Houston aheaed of Rita. And guess what, some of the ones left behind, looted/stole from my apartment patio, a garden hose, had draped on a hook on fence. And 2 Aloe Vera plants in containers. Now a garden hsoe did not uncoil and run off, and the containers were in heavy containers for wind to blow away. To me, it was just the act of vandalism. A carry over from New Orleans? I am not being disrespectful, same place now for over 15 years, not a problem, until now. I would have made these items a gift, had they asked.
I am thinking about renting a movie this evening, but since I don’t watch television I really don’t know what’s out. Anybody know of any good new releases?
Now we have 2 Presidents in the White House. The woman President sent the might of US force to abduct a Nigerian woman from extinction.
This what I call a noble cause.
movie for the weekend: “Serenity” - Sci Fi Action Adventure Western based on the TV series “Firefly”. Best movie I’ve seen in quite a while (don’t see many). This movie puts all the star wars and other blockbusters to shame. This is a REAL sci-fi movie. Not for the little kids (violence). Getting old… my 22 year daughter had to tell me about the original show.
I have a crackpot suggestion for Austin: Do away with property taxes. There are places in the country without them. Property taxes mean the government owns our homes and can set the rate at which we rent them from the government. Other taxes are where the government gets a tributary off the stream of commerce (or a mosquito on the vein of our lifeblood, your choice). Sales tax and other kinds of taxes are based on a percentage of the money flow. Property taxes are assessed on a static value with no money flow involved. That is immoral and confiscatory. A removal of property tax would benefit the poor more than “the rich.” People without great means get taxes out of their homes regularly. People over 65 can get away without paying them, but when they die or sell the home, the taxes are collected and the heirs get nothing. Taking away this tax would require the govenment to come at us head on with their tax and face the angry voter. This may cut services, but it would cause people to become more self reliant.
Pursuant to this suggestion should be a Constitutional Amendment that sets taxes from all sources at no more than a certain percentage of the GDP (gross domestic product). Without this, the geometric growth of government will strangle the golden goose. Think about it.
Anyone notice that, during the evacuation, there were more guns on the move in this country since the civil war? Yet, I didn’t hear much about lots of people getting shot.
Liberty, thats because the mutual destruction thing was in play.
I still cant believe people ran to the hills like that. I guess Katrina scared the poop out of most people. Unless you live ON the coast you have to worry more about tornadoes and they can happen anywhere in the country.
Mike Martin post #1 They are speculatin’ that the bombing was from those peaceful folks.
m9777 post #2 Ummm well maybe not. TXDOT might be better served if the head was elected rather than appointed. A “council of governments” sounds to much like the UN and that scares me.
gregg post #3 Listen to him Edd he may be onto something here.
gregg post #4 OMG man that is my home phone number. (just kiddin)
Sonia E. Alaniz post #5 Some people just ain’t got no class. For everyone like those thieves there are 4 or 5 good people like yourself. Looters rank real high on my shoot on sight and ask questions later list.
Rahman post #8 Man it took me all day to figure out that you were talking about the West Wing and that new show Commander and Chief. Too much heat I guess combined with the hurricane cleanup here. Sheesh. Good one once I got my snap back.
gregg post #10 See my response above. Blew my little mind too.
Sam post #14 Gets my vote. I have been arguing either a consumption or a flat tax for years. Either of those two alternatives beats what we got if implimented correctly.
Liberty post #16 You shoulda seen what was in my truck. Ummm maybe it was better you didn’t. Never mind.

Mobility, evacuation or otherwise:

Pardon ‘hose’.

What in the world does that mean? Sounds like a good movie, but what’s the title?
Rahman, with all due respect. WTF are you talking about?

There you go; that’s what we need: another taxing authority we can’t shut down.

A ”Sci Fi Action Adventure Western” sounds interesting. I’ll check it out. Thanks deadAhead.

That doesn’t sound so crackpot to me. A consumption based tax? The idea makes a lot of sense.
Anyone notice that, during the evacuation, there were more guns on the move in this country since the civil war? Yet, I didn’t hear much about lots of people getting shot.
