    yawn.

More of the same from those twits.

  2. gregg on October 7th, 2005 at 2:46 pm

So Delay is a “Zionist conspirator? And the point is?

Isreal is our ally. The Palestinians are terrorists.

  3. mm1rdam on October 7th, 2005 at 4:04 pm

WE are currently evacuating subways and buildings because of terorists and this fool thinks we should send money to a terrorist country? Those people danced in the streets on 9/11. WE should never give them a dime. Why we continue to send dollars to those murders in beyond me. THey would kill all of us tomorrow morning if they had the ability. WE are infidels. Hell Arafat’s family has more money than Bunky Hunt, all courtesy of the American tax payer .

Isn’t this the same “Zogby” that runs the Zogby polls?

Nice to know that pollsters are unbiased!

And oh yes, the Palestinians are terrorists.

  5. Matt Bramanti on October 7th, 2005 at 6:13 pm

Mtriplett, the column was written by James Zogby. The pollster is John Zogby, his brother.

    Thanks for the correction.

Hey, Hillary visited Palestine and was all kissy-faced. She prefers ‘em. STILL she got to be NY Senator.
Roosevelt said “nothing in politics is an accident…”
What’s on purpose is anything to slam Tom DeLay (and therefore hopefully Bush & the Republicans, etc., by association). SO gladly they grasp at ridiculous straws.

The only thing you need to know about DeLay on the issue of Israel & the mid-east & so on is to examine his voting record all these years. These are actions speaking louder than any words. He’s a citizen when he’s not at work, and therefore entitled to his opinion. When he’s at work, is he representing citizens, his constituency? I suggest Sugarland et al. think he’s swell, but it’s up to them.

    Oh dear. Tom DeLay.

Perhaps you should just avoid mentioning his name for a while, regardless of context.

  9. bfrancis on October 7th, 2005 at 10:32 pm

I can’t wait to read the conspiracy theories that Zogby and the other lefties will write when these bogus Deley indictments are tossed out and Speaker Hastert throws a party for Tom as he is reseated as Majority Leader. Should be even funnier than reading Cindy Sheehan’s dribble.

A Pox on the houses of both Palestine and Israel. We have spent too much money on both sides and have little to show for it.

Let them fight it out until they get tired of butchering each other. Maybe, they will be a bit more receptive to peacefully living together.

    I remain skeptical.

Right-wingers such as Delay and many of you support Israel only because its survival fits into some evangelical Christian fanaticism and that makes many of us in the tribe very nervous.

  12. bfrancis on October 9th, 2005 at 9:27 pm

    Wil-
My Jewish friends believe Messiah is coming. I happen to believe He is coming back again. Conservative or liberal, Rep or Dem, Likud or Labor is not relevant. My love and support of Israel and the Jewish people is in response to what God has stated in the Bible.

The prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel all make clear God’s promises to Israel have not been forgotten or forsaken. An everlasting covenant is an everlasting covenant. This is not “evangelical Christian fanaticism” as you call it, but simply following what God has already said back in Genesis:
I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you. Genesis 12:2-3

Anti-Semitism is incompatible with the Christian faith and thus “For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest…” (Isaiah 62:1). I am convinced, after visiting Israel, Gaza and the Golan Heights, that the Palestinians, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Hezbollah still have only one agenda (just repeated by Hamas this week) “We will kill so many Jews that they flee Palestine.”

So if supporting Israel is just a “right-wing” Christian Conservative Republican thing, can you tell me who said this Wil?
“Israel’s fight is America’s fight, and America’s fight is Israel’s fight. Give Israel greater latitude to pursue its war on terror. Yes, work for peace, but first let Israel finish the job and wipe out terror. Let Israel defend herself and then help the cause of peace.”
    Was that Tom Delay?
NO! It was one of the most liberal members of the Senate - Charles Schumer (D-NY).

  13. Matt Bramanti on October 9th, 2005 at 11:53 pm

Wil, I’m a Catholic, not an evangelical or born-again Christian, and I’m very pro-Israel. I agree with what bfrancis said on the Biblical, pre-Christian reasons to support Israel, but I can make a great case for Israel without an appeal to the Bible.

I won’t try to speak for Benzion, but I’m pretty sure he’s not an evangelical Christian fanatic either.

So here’s the secular case for Israel: It’s a functioning, multi-ethnic, literate democracy — in a region dominated by just the opposite. Despite having limited natural resources (very limited when compared to much of the oil-soaked Mideast), it has one of the highest standards of living in the region. Try finding a decent software development industry in Iran.

Unless the Palestinians make the mistake Sharon hopes they will (that is to stage raids and bombings in Israel after the Israelis leave them to their own devices in Gaza and the West Bank) we will see what these “peace-loving” folks are able to do for themselves BY themselves.

I’m betting on corruption of leadership, bloodbaths in the streets due to factional warfare, and collapse of all governmental control within weeks or months resulting in anarchy and total destruction.

This self-destruction will, of course, be blamed on the Israelis for any number of absurd reasons causing another wave of hatred to sweep through the Muslim world.

It is a shame the Israelis could not have annexed the territory in question after acquiring it which would have made the current property questions moot. If the Palestinian’s arab brothers really feel so bad for them, wouldn’t you think they would be willing to part with some of their own precious sand and allow the refugees to establish a home somewhere else? (sorry, I drifted off into a dream world for a moment)

    Thanks Matt.

Still to what end can we as America or the UN or anybody think we can stem the tide of conflict that has been going on for several thousand years…

Palestine and Isreal have been fighting over the same chunk of land since before the biblical times.

Maybe Chuckie is right, maybe we should let them fight it out to the end. Since appeasement and concessions rarely work, look at Europe with the Nazis.
