Was Pat Robertson the issue?
by The Panda Man · 11/01/2005 11:40 amPat Robertson caught a lot of flack for suggesting that the United States should consider obliging Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez’s declamations that America wants to assassinate him. Now Mr. Chavez, in his infinite generosity, has returned the favor by condemning U.S. Halloween celebrations as “terrorism.”
"What they have implanted here, which is really a ‘gringo’ custom, is terrorism," Chavez said, quoted in the local press. "They disguise children as witches and wizards, that is contrary to our culture."
Chavez often lashes out at the US government, which he has described as "terrorist" and accused of plotting his assassination.
His comments came after authorities in Caracas recently seized pumpkins, cardboard skeleton costumes and other traditional Halloween items inscribed with anti-Chavez messages.
Could it be that we were distracted from the real issue, Mr. Chavez’s Castro-esque behavior, by the hubbub over Mr. Robertson’s comments?

Without a doubt, Robertson’s comments weren’t the real issue. But considering that the hubbub was created as a result Robertson’s idiotic statement, isn’t he the one to blame for the distraction from the real issue? Another fine example of the disservice extremists do to the reasonable people of the world.
Chavez is a paranoid nutcase.
Mike:
Well said. Mr. Robertson and Mr. Chavez seem cut from the same cloth.
wack this guy and get on with it. The world was a safer place when the cia and other gov agencies did their job. Bleeding hearts are slowly killing us.
Pat and Hugo deserve each other. Paying attention to idiots only encourages their behaivor.
Simple
#5) Well stated. Same for the KKK. If a group like this holds a rally and no one shows up, did they really rally at all?
We should all turn our collective backs on hate mongers (of any and all type).
