Well the Fake Conservative/Oath Breaking/Illegal Alien-Aider and Abettor/ in Chief has finally outdone himself and shown how Barren of Gray Matter he really is.

He likens the illegal immigration crisis to prohibition and says “Aw shucks people wanted that whiskey, so they made it anyway, so lets give amnesty to 20 million lawbreakers”!! Paraphrasing by me.

According to Alfred E Neuman-Bush’s logic, we might as well legalize all drugs because people will snort, smoke or shoot-up anyway, so what the heck.

He should legalize stealing too because criminals want the goods in your house, so aw shucks, they should get to steal them legally.

And we know millions of people will cheat on their taxes, so we might as well make it legal because we know it’s going to happen, gosh darn-it.

As a matter of fact he should just legalize any criminal act that can happen, since it’s bound to happen anyway, heck and aw shucks, make it legal.

Click the link scroll down to CNN Lou Dobbs - Video:
Our President in Action - Equates Immigration with Prohibition

    and see for yourself.

In my opinion this guy is a total buffoon and I agree with Pat Buchanan, he needs to be impeached.

No regard whatsoever for the law of the land. He is giving America the middle finger.

    Shameful indeed!!

    Phil,

I stopped reading your post after “Oath Breaking.” If you want to make a point, stop the vicious invective or else no one is going to read it.

When you start with fourteen insults before Bush’s name, the rest of your post is like the middle of the US to the pundits and politicians: “scroll over country.”

This is NOT a flame. I’m posting concerning your diction, not your ancestry, etc. This unsolicited advice is worth every penny you’re paying for it.

Re David B’s post on the Brenda Kent story on Friday….Rules are Rules are Rules, I had an interesting visit to the local Home Depot yesterday afternoon.
I am working on a project for a friend who needed two pieces of plywood cut a specific width (14″).
Upon asking an associate to help me with the two “Free Cuts”, I was advised that they are only allowed to make cuts as small as 16″ in width. I asked: “Why?” He responed: “It’s a store rule”. I asked to see the rule and where it was written/posted. He was unable to produce said document but was emphatic that it was their store rules/policy. I suggested that it was only a two inch difference in the cut and that I needed the 14″ width for a project and could he please make an exception for me. He said ” Rules are rules and I can’t break them. I asked would it endager him or ruin the saw if he made the 14″ cuts instead of 16″ ones? He said; No, but I can’t make the 14″ cuts, it’s against the rules. Being the nice guy that I am and not wanting to raise a ruckus or waste any more of my time, I just asked him to make one slightly over 28″ cut and I’d go gome and cut that piece in half myself, thank you very much! He had this blank/puzzled look on his face.
This story doesn’t have NEARLY the implications that the Brenda Kent one does, but it shows what some rules are just made to be broken!
What about the customer is always right rule?

malcolm, you should have asked to speak to the store manager. I’m fairly(?) certain he/she would have resolved the matter to your satisfaction. I never deal with the clerks at any store/restaurant when there’s a problem. They simply can’t make practical decisions.

RE: Article in Chronicle Tue 1/10 Business page concerning new Mustang/Dodge Challenger Concept and Camaro Concept.

When the mini-van came out and got popular (10-12 years ago?) I was fed up with the new cars looking exactly the same. You could get a mini-van, an egg-shaped car or an SUV, and that was your choices. And trying to find any color but white was close to impossible.

I wrote a letter to Chrysler asking them to bring back the muscle cars of the 60’s. I told them that people like us would buy an updated version of the old muscle cars. (I was mid 30s in age back then). I also told him how I felt about the styling of all of the new cars available for sale, and that we did not want to buy a car that looked like an egg driving down the road with a top speed of 35 mph, even if it DID get 100 miles to the gallon.

I received a response back telling me that he was livid that I considered a mini-van “ugly” and we are going into a new millenium soon and we have to think Internationally. No one would buy a car based on the muscle car of the 60s. And shame on me for even thinking this way. Well, I guess he told me!

They should have listened to me instead of blowing me off. NOW they come out with the updated muscle cars and that MIGHT save their companies. I hope it does, but if they had done this sooner, maybe they would not have gone through the slump.

You cannot wipe the “I told you so” smile off my face right now. AND as soon as those Challengers are available, Momma is going down to get her one!A girl can never have too much horse power.

    Regarding the Beda Kent story:

Are we all missing the point here? What about the baby? I’m not saying the rule is right or wrong, but maybe we should be advocating that she raise her child over the next 2 years instead of worrying about her career goals. Times have certainly changed, haven’t they?

    Something to ponder…

You wonder why I shake my head.

I called the store director this morning and told him of my experience. He was appalled (or at least he said so) and asked if I would come back in the store and get another sheet of plywood for free and he would personally cut it for me at the requested 14″ width. He wanted to know the associate’s name that wouldn’t bend the rules ever so slightly for a customer. He said they do have a rule for that but the associate should have used a little common sense or at least called managment for an exception. He was very apologetic.
I suggested that the store director use this in his next store/employee meeting as an example of what not to do and how to piss off a customer.
He agreed! All was not in vain.

wELL, I’d LIKE to get a car that looked good, instead of the modern rounded-off ones or those that look like tennis shoes. I’d also like to get an American-made one now, because most of the GM & Ford factories are going to China, though I think Ford will make Lincolns in Russia. Anyhow, didn’t Toyota just pass GM as biggest seller?
And since we’re out of silver and mostly China buys US Bills, is it true we’ll be printing more ‘money’ to buy they back? This is the first time a non-value fiat currency was the main in the world; is it possible it could remain that way? I wrote a letter a couple months back to Congress because they want to have the navy built in China. Obviously (unless you’re a Congressjack!?) that’s an inane idea.
Hey, they’ll get what they want, as there are five times as many of them (& India is almost as big, if about as capable of organization as Mexico). I want the southern border locked down, but on the other hand in the near future we’ll need to whole western hemisphere together if there’s any chance of standing up to China (let alone if they go all hegemonous over there).

I have a 1991 Champagne colored, woody Dodge Caravan SE that belonged to my folks before they went to be with the Lord. It has the 3.3 ltr. V-6 with 210 HP, auto, overdrive and removable second and third row seats, an awesome stereo system, plus gets an avg. of 25 MPG’s. With only 89K miles on this baby, I plan to keep her for some time!
They made a good one when this one rolled off the line.

I have to admit that we do own a minivan (2001 Grand Caravan). I resisted the idea at first, but after toting around our large family crew for a bit in it, I must admit, it is perfect for that. Minivans have an undeservedly bad reputation.

  26. sargevining on January 14th, 2006 at 10:36 am

While I try to figure out whay one news agency omits certain important facts in the story above, please allow me to demonstrate how much a story can change if the ORDER in which the facts are presented is different.

Read the following before going to the link, then read it:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/14/national/14santacruz.html?ex=1137906000&en=517f2442e327a104&ei=5059&partner=AOL

    Bill Lovejoy/Santa Cruz Sentinel
Students at Santa Cruz protested military recruiters last April; the demonstration was said to be listed in a Pentagon database.

So when the military recruiters arrived for the job fair, held in an old dining hall last April 5 - a now fateful day for a scandalized university - the students had their two-way radios in position, their cyclists checking the traffic as hundreds of demonstrators marched up the hilly roads of this campus on the Central Coast and a dozen moles stationed inside the building, reporting by cellphone to the growing crowd outside.

“Racist, sexist, antigay,” the demonstrators recalled shouting. “Hey, recruiters, go away!”

“Fast forward: The students had left campus for their winter vacation in mid-December when a report by MSNBC said the April protest had appeared on what the network said was a database from a Pentagon surveillance program. The protest was listed as a “credible threat” - to what is not clear to people around here - and was the only campus action among scores of other antimilitary demonstrations to receive the designation.”

“A Department of Defense spokesman said that while the Pentagon maintained a database of potential threats to military installations, military personnel and national security, he could not confirm that the information released by MSNBC was from the database. The spokesman, who said he was not authorized to be quoted by name, said he could not answer questions about whether the government was or had been spying on Santa Cruz students.”

“Things got messy. As the building filled, students storming in were blocked from entering. The recruiters left, some finding that the tires of their vehicles had been slashed. The protesters then occupied the recruiters’ table and, in what witnesses described as a minor melee, an intern from the campus career center was injured.”

When you give the answer immediately after the question, you find that the Pentagon Database shows this campus to be a “potential threat to military military personnel” because “The recruiters left, some finding that the tires of their vehicles had been slashed.” and “in what witnesses described as a minor melee, an intern from the campus career center was injured.”

Re. Home Depot and Cutting Wood:

I have had that experience before. They don’t do what they call “odd” cuts because the machinery they have will not always be able to make the cuts. For instance, they cannot rip (longways) a peice of 8t foot wood because the ripper (for lack of a better word) cannot cut anything over 4ft in length. They showed me why. But then with my bidness I was spending anywhere from 1-2 thousand a month in there just on odds and ends.

I have not read that, but I believe it. Our daughter is doing very well. Reading at a high level, verbal skills great etc. etc. She is six.
She is a very bright kid (not just me saying that)
But I really worry about the future and her education.
Like it or don’t, but we are in a world wide economy. My daughter will HAVE to compete on that playing field. She will have to have the language, mathmatics, and verbal skills to navigate a world wide economy. She will compete with kids that understand this well. Sadly I don’t think we as a nation understand yet.

  37. Feagan on January 14th, 2006 at 11:20 am

Shaker, Thomas Friedman who wrote the Wold is Flat tells this story. I’m sure I will get the story slightly wrong but the jist is the same.

He says he gave a speech in Seattle. After his speech he got an e mail from a teacher at a private high school.

He (the teacher) met with parents at an open house.
The first parents Said the Mathematics curriculum was weak, the science program was weak, and he was not giving enough homework to the students. They demanded better. They had an Asian surname.

Another set of parents said the work load was too heavy, the kids did not have enough free time or enough time for soccer and such. They said the work load needed to lessen or they would find another school. They had an American Surname.

I believe the story he tells is true.

Again not mine, but this is about the worst tractor I have ever driven. No doghouse or sleeper. I have driven the old cabovers like JB HUNT had for so many years with the sleeps. Just barely a step above that old Mac. You are sitting right over the top of the front tire in a cab that does not allow much seat adjustment. Great for jack knifing in tight spots to back the trailer in with but other than that no thanks. Gotta say they were easy to work on though.

  54. The Dude on January 14th, 2006 at 12:11 pm

    Squawk and Feagan,

Actually when I said we have a minivan, that is technically true, in the sense that my wife and I both are listed on the note. I, however, rarely drive it… it’s pretty well a Mrs. Dude-mobile.

OK, now that I’ve come off all defensive, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the handling of said grocery getter. It’s no Porsche or anything, but the handling is not as bad as you might think.

Prior to this one we had a conversion Dodge van, which was not a “mini” van that had all kinds of differential problems. Mrs. Dude got sick of it and issued the minivan edict in early 2001. Oh well, such is life.

On the subject of education, I didn’t catch that on 20/20 Feagan. But like I’ve seen again and again, parental involvement is everything. It’s the common denominator in academic high achievers that I’ve known in my life (with a few exceptions). Perhaps that is one area where some American parents sorely lack.

Gotta go now… much sealing, sanding, priming, and painting to be done. Have a great weekend, all.

  55. Feagan on January 14th, 2006 at 12:14 pm

My only concern with Homeschooling is the social aspect. But I really know very little, so I cannot speak to it with any knowledge.

I’m all for Home Schooling. Statistic show that most home schooled children receive a better education, are more prepared for college and very often graduate in the top percentile of their class. Not to mention that most home schooled children are very well behaved and polite.

  66. neocon on January 14th, 2006 at 1:30 pm

    Butch & Squawk,

Home schooling, IMO, is the way to go. We’ve come a long way regarding the social issues. They now have thier own sports association for those wanting to play high school sports, for example. As home schooling is growing they have other ways to socialize with other home schooled kids.

Besides, it is safer for them than most crime-laden, drug-riddled schools that offer such poor education.

    #7 Wino:
    Regarding my #6 post:

With all due respect and no flame intended here either, it won’t hurt my feelings a bit if you don’t read any of my posts, now or in the future.

I am far less concerned about what you think about the colorful adjectives I use to describe Slick Georgie II than I am about a president like Slick Georgie II, who snubs his nose at his sworn duty to enforce America’s laws and that includes our immigration laws.

Not to mention the asinine comments comparing illegal immigration to whiskey and prohibition.

Why enforce any laws, using his whiskey/guest worker/amnesty logic? Bush Kool-Aid, anyone?

What I hear him saying is, I refuse to enforce our immigration laws unless you pass my Guest Worker/Amnesty Sham Plan. What Slick Georgie II is doing to this country is a disgrace, IMO.

You reap what you sow and much later than you sow it according to Biblical wisdom.

What Slick Georgie II is Sowing for America is already coming forth and is going to have dire consequences for the USA in the not to distant future. That is the way I see it.

  76. neocon on January 14th, 2006 at 5:43 pm

#75 - In essence, I agree with you. Having said that, your name calling only gets in the way or, takes away, from what you have to say. Not very relevant, however, I know how emotional one can get on any certain subject. My hot button is illegal immigration. :) Don’t get me started….

wino is trying to do you the same favor I’m trying to do for you:

Tell you how to get people to listen to you so you can get what you want.

But I guess as long as what you only want is to toss insults around, you’ll keep going in the direction you’re going in. Not caring whether people are reading your posts is no way to get people to read them, IMHO.

As soon as you get around to wanting to convince people, you’ll change your tactics, I suppose.

Not a flame…it’s advice just like Wino gave you.

  80. neocon on January 14th, 2006 at 7:37 pm

#79 - Kerry is skerry! No telling what he would have done. Thank God we won’t have to know. He, IMHO, will never be elected, no matter how many times he runs. Surely the Dims see this. Saying that, he got so many votes in the last election because the Dims vote straight ticket on most everything. If Castro was running on the Dim ticket, the Dims would vote for him. With Dims, always party before country.

    RE: FISH

Those trucks are not allowed to carry anything but fish due to the fact the fish is usually raw, frozen, covered with ice and in some cases there is live seafood/fish. This is to keep the outfit from carrying anything else in “FISH” vehicles such as chemicals that could spill on the floors and migrate to the food product.

  82. Smacktle on January 14th, 2006 at 8:12 pm

The reason why fish can only go in trucks marked fish is that fish can’t move on land very well and need to know where to go. Could you imagine a fish getting on a rail car marked with metro?

#80 I think a lot of people forget that the options instead of Bush could have been Gore or Kerry.

I’m stuck at home with my 2 kids 1 8 months & the other almost 3 years (mom is on a MNO Mothers night out well deserved!). I just watched Bob the Builder for the 4th time. I was doing an experiment to see how many times he would watch it. As long as I keep putting in the CD he will watch it! I wish I had that kind of staying power!I’m beginning to wonder about Bob The Builder though, he doesn’t have a girlfriend…

I have another question for yous guys… What is the best movie you have seen available now on video? Interpreter was terrible. Crash was OK
I got Undead for tonight after the kids are in bed lol, I just love those zombie movies,

The best zombie movie I ever saw was “Shaun of the Dead” That was really funny. Time to put these litlle… to bed. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I knew once the reason for the FISH label being necessary. Had more to do with un licensed vendors selling fish. The fish designation identified the vendor as one selling or distributing seafood, and being licensed to do so. I will get more specifics on Monday.

I promise that I will use this Power only for Good, Truth, Justice, and the American Way. And to convince Domino’s in Rosenberg that delivery of a pizza to a point 700 feet outside the city limits will not result in the Death of Western Civilization.

I began on this road to Greatness when, in the summer of 1973, my unit became recognized as having the First Confirmed Military Streaker within its ranks. Those who don’t like my long posts can stop now. Others, more interested in Important Military History of the Late 20th Century may read on.

It was the time for the annual picnic at Medicine Bluffs park at Fort Sill. A new Second Lieutentant had been detailed to get the beer.

Since his only experience at such a mission was limited to getting beer for parties at Tappa Kegga Day, or whatever fraternity he belonged to, he bought four kegs. This caused oohs and ahhhs of appreciation throughout the ranks when he showed up at then little park on the post, and many stern glances of approbation from the wives of the greater majority of the ooohers and aahhhers.

The day wore on as the kiddes flitted happily back and forth among the various playground accesories, and the wives kept close eye on the fathers and stepfathers of said kiddies to insure that they did not go back to the Ways of the Enlistedman they were indulging in when they first met. At around 4PM all of the homemade potatoe salad, cole slaw, cookies and cakes had been scarfed down. All of the burgers and dogs had been grilled and the buns toasted. Appetites had been sated, with the possible exception of the married men as it applied to thos 4 kegs of beer. There were even empty bottles of mustard and ketchup still on the picnic tables. But, alas, there we still two full kegs of beer left.

It was at this point that Captain Clayton G. Culver made the fateful decision that endeared him in the hearts and minds of Enlisted Men everywhere by declaring the best way to dispose of the kegs would be to have the single guys take them back to the barracks, and piock up the empties on Monday. (Note: there is some speculaton that CPT Culver’s wife was a bit nearsighted and was not able to steer him away from the kegs with the same skill as other wives did, and this contributed to the decision).

Picture in your mind, if you will, a dozen guys in various states of fatigue dress beside an old WW2 barracks with not one, but TWO, trashcans full of ice and beer keg. More guys arrive as HQ Co becomes THE place to be on a hot Oklahoma Saturday Summer Evening. Tears still come to my eyes at the memory. Glory and praise be heaped upon Captain Culver for all his days! Guys, we had so much beer, everybody left their dope in the car, THAT’S how much beer we had.

Eventually conversation drifted away from eac man finding variuos and sundry ways to extoll the virtues of Captain Culver (and the real tragedy here is that the name of the LT who bought the beer has been lost to history) and moved towards the important news of the day: Streaking. It was noted that there had not yet been a Military Streaker and since HQ Co was Commanded by the Greatest Captain of all time, we needed to further grace the honor of the Company and the Military as a whole, by laying claim to this honor.

Next, we needed a suitable candidate. The various attributes of those present were discussed. Andy, who had played second string footbal at LSU until he had tried to rob a gas staion with a Red Ryder BB gun while drunk as a preacher and ordered into the military by the judge, was briefly considered as he had thebest physique. Unfortunately, he had been consuming beer since the 4 kegs had shown up at Medecine Bluff and it was determined that the mission called for someone with an ability to run naked as opposed to someone who could merely crawl.

Finally..and fatefully…a “newbie” was spottted in the crowd (he shall remain nameless, as my memory of the entire period 1972-74 is a bit sketchy anyway). This kid was from Arkansas, stood 6 feet tall, and weighed about 3 pounds. He was so skinny he had to jump up and down in the shower to get wet. I mean, he could hide behind a chain link fence. If he turned sideways and stuck out his tounge, he looked like a zipper…get the picture here? Not only that, he was quite possibl the most unatheltic person in the history of mankind, and for some reason, the sum bleached his skin rather than tan it. Not an ounce of muscle hung on his frame, he quite literally looked like a plastic grovery sack full of bones when not clothed. More importantly, he couldn’t hold his beer very well and, in the state he was in, could be talked into practically anything.

Once the importance of the act was explained to him (along with telling him how much the Great Captain Culver would appreciate the honor), he agreed. He shucked his OG 107s (for some reason, he put his cap back on), stepped into his combat boots (it was remarked by one of the bystanders that this made him look like a stork standing in two empty artillery casings), then ran to the corner and back again, to replace his clothing (missing several buttons on his blouse in the process). Many huzzahs and words of appreciation were expressed. Great fun had been had and discussion then turned to how we would alert the media.

In a short while, that problem was answered, and our errors in both candidate for execution of the Mission and the Area of Operations in which to perform it were revealed. HQ Co was the last barracks in a line and stood at a corner. Across the main street was Post Army Airfield and to it’s west was a small tennis court. Unfortunately, to the west of the tennis court was a group of NCO Dependent housing, and the tennis net did NOT occlude the view of the Act in any way, shape, or manner. Further complicating this was that, in the waning hours of sunlight, the young man’s exceedingly white body reflected the yellow and orange hues of a gorgeous Oklahoma Sunset, further calling attention to him. What the good mothers (and possibly a few children) saw running down the road was a bright orange toothpick with arms and legs, wearing a fatigue cap and combat boots running naked in the sunset.

It took three MP cars mere moments to surround the crowd (we weren’t moving fast anyway). They immediatly arrested Andy (who apparently appreared to them to be the one amongst us drunk enough to have perfomred the act), and several otheres who protested this miscarraige of justice. They then instructed us to take the kegs into the barracks, upon which it was decided that, in this case, discretion would be the better part of valor.

For the next 6 months, Enlisted Housing at Post Army Airfield was designated as a “riot prone area” with increased MP patrols who carried along K9 units. For some reason, this streaking was not honared as it should, and to this day is not mentioned in the USAFAAC (Prov) Unit History risiding at Carlisale Barracks, PA.

But now, I reveal this to you as part of my crusade to insure that Miltary Events of this nature not be relegated to the dustbin of history.

    Hoo—-AHHHHHH!

I breifly considered “orange toothpick with a penis” but finally came to the determination that the historical record does not conatina dequate description of that important part of the story to insure that this body part was visible from the Dependent Hosuing area. Being a dedicated Historian, I can only keep to those descriptions of events that can be proven, or which are obvious. Thus, we stay with “Arms and Legs” and leave other body part descriptions to conjecture by the reader.

I can say without any fear of contradiction that the Mexican Military has crossed our border, and we thiers, hundreds, if not thousands of times since 1847. In 1915 thier military actually engaged in raiding parties in Texas as far north as the King Ranch, and Pancho Villa breifly took voer the twon of Columbus, NM in March of 1916 and burned part of it, despite the fact that there were two Companies of Cavlary encamped next to the Railroad station, across the street from the burned block.

We crossed their border n many times in pursuit of Apaches and Commanches in the late 19th Century, and in pursuit of bandits in the early 20th. Theh did the same, and for the same reasons.

Since, during that same period we were able to survive a vicious Civle War, win a War with Spain in 1898, and two World Wars with a Depression in between, as well as build the Greatest Capitalist Economy in the history of Civilization providing our citizens with the best quality of life on the planet; combined with the fact that the numbers and frequency of the incursions described in your post pale in comparison to those in the historical record, I remain confident that the Republic remains strong and will continue to remain so, especially since Presidential and Congressional efforts have been stepped up recently to address the problem.

I know the Republic remains strong…I heard Clinton mutter it over and over when he was prez but you seem to have missed the main point. The mexi gov is running drugs into the US (as per BP reports)! But hey, who cares!

    This is very funny!

    The Perfect Quarterback

The coach had put together the perfect team for the New Orleans Saints.

The only thing missing was a good quarterback. He had scouted all the colleges and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn’t find a ringer who could ensure a Super Bowl victory.

Then one night, while watching CNN, he saw a war-zone scene in Afghanistan . In one corner of the background, he spotted a young Afghan Muslim soldier with a truly incredible arm. He threw a hand-grenade straight into a window from 80 yards away. Then he
threw another from 50 yards down a chimney, and then hit a passing car at 60 yards.

I’ve got to get this guy!” coach said to himself. “He has the perfect arm!”

So, he brings the young Afghan to the States and teaches him the great game of football . and sure enough the Saints go on to win the Super Bowl.

The young Afghan is hailed as a hero of football, and when the coach asks him what he wants, all the young man wants to do is call his mother.

“Mom,” he says into the phone, “I just won the Super Bowl!”

“I don’t want to talk to you,” the old Muslim woman says. “You deserted us. You are not my son!”

“Mother, I don’t think you understand,” pleads the son, “I’ve just won the greatest sporting event in the world!”

“No! let me tell you,” his mother retorts. “At this very moment there are gunshots all around us. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week, and I have to keep your sister in the house so she
    doesn’t get raped!”

The old lady pauses then tearfully says,

” I will never forgive you for making us move to New Orleans!”

  184. sargevining on January 15th, 2006 at 3:55 pm

    Argus;

I’m not getting it. Both stories say essentially the same thing.

    Further more:

“The mission of the unit has also changed over time. The Marines began guarding the gates in 1987 after a long hiatus. They had not manned the gates since the Spanish-American War.”

Not being there from 1898 - 1987 represetns a break of 89 years in the supposed 155 year tradition.

If you are referring to this:

“That policy led to a confrontation between a Marine guard and then-Superintendent Richard J. Naughton at Gate 3 on New Year’s Eve 2003, which triggered a military probe that led to Naughton’s resignation.”

I doubt this is the real story behind the change of station since the story also says:

“The decision was partly influenced by the global war on terrorism but had been in the works before that, said Marine Corps spokeswoman Lt. Elle Helmer.”

I’ve been aware of discussions with the Corps to end those assignments of Marines to largely ceremonial duties such as this. It seems that then only tradition most commanders are willing to hold on to are the one of Marines serving as Embassy guards, as these have a real life military function than some of the others.

House Speaker Dennis Hastert is trying to force out Ohio Rep. Bob Ney (pictured) as chairman of the House Administration Committee, a week after Justice Department documents linked Ney to a bribery scheme involving convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Ney’s committee has jurisdiction over the Republican reform agenda in the wake of the Abramoff scandal, and Hastert thinks it is inappropriate to let Ney run it, said a GOP leadership aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the negotiations between Ney and the speaker.

  196. neocon on January 15th, 2006 at 8:37 pm

  198. headshaker on January 15th, 2006 at 9:05 pm

You people are still missing the point. Abramoff was a CLOSE, PERSONAL FRIEND of DeLay and many other Republicans. His ties to the Bush administration and the GOP dwarf his ties to the Democrats. You can spin it anyway you want, but you’re peeing in the wind. Yeah, some Dems will be implicated, but the reason you’re not hearing about the Dems from the Republicans is the Republicans know how bad this is for them. Going after the Dems is only going to open up more cans of worms. The Republicans are trying to minimize the damage which may not be possible.

Of course, those who can’t separate themselves from the party line won’t see this as usual. But you’re in for a wake-up call over the next few months.

“This is the result of a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.”
and other such justifications to keep them in office.

BTW…what’s you take on the Wiliam Jefferson thing?

    And sarge, check this out:

    http://bodegabay.blogs.com/north_coast_curmudgeon/2005/11/democratic_scan.html

Seems that Democrats in scandals have been dealt with quite adequately.

  205. squawkbox on January 15th, 2006 at 9:19 pm

    No Shakey
The point is exactly as I described in post 197. Actually it the same argument El Clintony DOTI put forth. “It’s only sex” and the SOB lied under oath. Only this time with the Dems it’s “yeah we took the money” but we did not do anything wrong. They learned their lessons well. And the democratic FISH just suck it up.

Hastert did the right thing by asking Ney to step down. Do you think the democraps will do the honorable thing and have their clowns step down? NOPE.

Yeah yeah yeah it is ALL the Republicans.

  206. headshaker on January 15th, 2006 at 9:23 pm

Squawkie, AGAIN you miss my point. No one is arguing that certain Dems are not culpable. Can you understand that statement (no offense intended)?

The point is that this is a BIGGER Republican problem because Abramoff was much closer to the GOP. If it wasn’t, the GOP would be all over the Dems and they’re not.

Not sure what else I have to do to get you to stay on my topic. You keep commenting on something I’ve already acknowledged and agreed with you on several times.

  207. squawkbox on January 15th, 2006 at 9:31 pm

    Shakey
No offense taken. That is not in my nature.

Me thinks this is going to get the old special prosecutor treatment and some heads will role, but it will not make it as high as the presidency. It will be suggested and implied but it won’t get legs to impeachment.

Could cause the republicans to lose their majorities but I think that in the long run that will be more of a natural function of the vote than any accusations or convictions because of big ABE.

  208. headshaker on January 15th, 2006 at 9:34 pm

Squawkie, I knew you’d see the light! I was getting worried that those truck fumes were bothering you tonight!

I’m not saying it’s going to the top either, I’m just saying it’s going to be worse for the Republicans in the long run because of the nature of the relationships between them and Abramoff vs. the Dems and Abramoff.

Now I can go to bed! Phew!

  209. sargevining on January 15th, 2006 at 9:35 pm

    Shakey;

You can go through those at the bottom, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg where the Dems and Abramoff are concerned. In the interest of co plete honesty and to show that I anm not the one sided person others who post here are, there is the acomplete list of who received what and how much from Abramoff:

    http://www.capitaleye.org/abramoff_recips.asp

The Repubs are taking care of the Repubs on that list…what are the Dems doing?

You can’t or won’t answer that one.

  214. sargevining on January 15th, 2006 at 9:47 pm

    Shakey;

You post makes my point Re: the Dems keeping thier rqascals in office. From your post:

“Barney Frank - Democrat - U.S. Representative from Massachusetts from 1981 to present. Admitted to having paid Stephen L. Gobie, a male prostitute, for sex and subsequently hiring Gobie as his personal assistant. Gobie used the congressman’s Washington apartment for prostitution. A move to expel Frank from the House of Representatives failed and a motion to censure him failed.”

Mr. Frank is still in office and will take over a chairmanship if the Dems get a majority.

“Alcee Lamar Hastings - Democrat - U.S. Representative from Florida. Impeached and removed from office as federal judge in 1989 over bribery charges.” Still in office.

“Edward Moore Kennedy - Democrat - U. S. Senator from Massachusetts. Pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, after his car plunged off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island killing passenger Mary Jo Kopechne.”

    Still in office

“John Murtha, Jr. - Democrat - U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania. Implicated in the Abscam sting, in which FBI agents impersonating Arab businessmen offered bribes to political figures; Murtha was cited as an unindicted co-conspirator and testified against two House colleagues. Recently called for the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.”

His brother is also a Defense Lobbyist. Murtha will become Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Committe if the Dems gain the majority.

“Bill Richardson - Democrat - Governor of New Mexico. For about four decades, Richardson, often mentioned as a possible Democratic presidential candidate, has maintained that he was drafted by the A’s. But an investigation by the Albuquerque Journal found no record of Richardson being drafted by the A’s or any other team. Informed by the newspaper of its findings, the governor acknowledged the error in a story in Thursday’s editions. “After being notified of the situation and after researching the matter … I came to the conclusion that I was not drafted by the A’s,” Richardson said. He said he had believed it was true based on an old program from an amateur team he had played for.”

Governor of New Mexico, and now revealed as a groper.

“Bobby Lee Rush - Democrat - U.S. Representative from Illinois. As a Black Panther, spent six months in prison on a weapons charge.”

“Maxine Waters - Democrat - U.S. Representative from California since 1991. A December 2004 Los Angeles Times investigation disclosed how members of the congresswoman’s family have made more than $1 million in the past eight years by doing business with companies, candidates and causes that Waters has helped.”

    Still in office…

and these aren’t the ones tied to Abramof!

  215. sargevining on January 15th, 2006 at 9:51 pm

    Shakey;

One does not have to meet someone, or even be freinds, to become a scumbag by taking his money.

My first post, BTW, shows everybody who took money, not just Dorgan. It is interesting though that he took money from Abramoff while sitting ona committee investigating Abramoff…what do you make of that?

  216. sargevining on January 15th, 2006 at 10:01 pm

OK, well, I’ll tell you what I make of it.

If you’re going to take a bribe from someone while investigating them, it’s best you never meet……

  217. headshaker on January 15th, 2006 at 10:03 pm

sarge, in #214 - no one is arguing that with you. What part of that don’t you get?

#215 - not arguing that point either.

You keep avoiding my point though. Methinks you studied those Liberal Rules of Debate a little too much.

  218. headshaker on January 15th, 2006 at 10:04 pm

#216 sarge - spoken like a true Liberal! Wow!

  219. sargevining on January 15th, 2006 at 10:05 pm

BTW…if they never met…how did Dorgan get to hold a fundraiser in Abramoff’s skybox?

  220. headshaker on January 15th, 2006 at 10:07 pm

#219 - certainly that’s possible sarge. You’re reaching now to try and score points.

The bottom line is this: I’m on tonight, and you’re off. If it was a tennis match it would be 6-0, 6-0. I think I’ll quit while I’m way a-head.

    Goodnight.

  221. sargevining on January 15th, 2006 at 10:10 pm

I don’t get your point at all…you keep saying it’s “worse” for the Republicans.

As mentioned before, that’s like saying the three guys who split 30% of the bank robbery proceeds are less guilty than the two guys who split the other 70%.

and IF the Dems keep on the track they are on, it will end up being worse for them, as it can be demostrated that

    1. They did have ties with Abramoff and are trying to “aw shucks” thier way out of it.
    2. They are trying to make other people look guilty while trying to keep any guilt away from themselves.
    3. Aren’t punishing any of thier folks who did (that post of yours did not includin ANY Democrat involved.
    4. They are keeping the money
To tell the truth, I think the Pubbies are handling this very well, and it’s the Dems who will end up holding the dirty end of the stick.

  222. neocon on January 15th, 2006 at 10:10 pm

Sarge, what about Nancy Polosi and her ethics problems. Unlike Delay, there were no indictments, even though she did the exact same Delay did. Got off with a $190,000 fine. She’s still in office.

  223. sargevining on January 15th, 2006 at 10:15 pm

    One more prediction here:

Delay will not win the primary.

A poll in the Comical today points out that the only way that Lampson wins over any Conservative Republican, Delay included, only if Stockman runs as an independent.

But Delay is not doing well against his Republican challengers. The only thing he’s got going for him right now is the closeness of the primary. For some damn reason, Republicans who are tainted don’t do as well as the Barny Frnaks and Ted Kennedey’s of the world.

  224. headshaker on January 15th, 2006 at 10:16 pm

#222 - you’re comparing apples and curtains. It was a $21,000 fine by the way.

The “Viet Nam” strategy: Declare victory and pull out.

HeadShaker commented in #210 at 9:37 - hardly time to go through Sarge’s links.

HeadShaker again replied at 9:40, 10:03, and 10:04.

HeadShaker, where is your credibility if you won’t even read the links Sarge provided?

Sarge’s #214 you ignore. #217 is a totally friggin dodge and #218 is weak as a newborn kitten!

Sarge got you on this, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2.

  230. headshaker on January 15th, 2006 at 10:42 pm

#229 - sarge dodged my main question all night. I agreed with most if not all of his points. He kept changing the subject like a good Liberal debater.

I only needed to look at his first link to validate my point. Why keep arguing with someone that won’t accept the truth?

Stay out of refereeing, it’s not your forte! :)

  231. neocon on January 15th, 2006 at 10:49 pm

#230 - “Won’t accept the truth” give me a break.

Shaky, I take exception to that remark, that it is “not my forte”. This forum is for open comments — not just yours and Sarge.

I think I touched a nerve somewhere! You don’t like what I commented on and you are attacking me. Typical liberal tactics.

  232. squawkbox on January 15th, 2006 at 10:51 pm

Not only at the top let’s go the bottom. Normal Democratic tactics here.

    NORMAN THE PARANOID
Sun Jan 15, 6:00 AM ET
    New York Post Online

OOOPS I GOT CAUGHT!!!!! And of course the race card gets played. Why does this not surprise me?

Former Brooklyn Democratic boss Clarence Norman is going up the river for between two and six years following a felony conviction that’s got some of his more prominent supporters murmuring ominously about racial plots.

Wanna bet the prominent supporters are guilty as hell too?
Oh but wait, this is a great Clintonista dodge if I ever heard one. This guy is up for two more corruption charges btw.

For his part, an only mildly apologetic Norman insisted that he was guilty only of taking shortcuts, insisting that “never, never, ever, ever, did I deliberately or consciously seek to break the law” - a statement Justice Marcus labeled “unconvincing and shameful.”

I’ll let this next paragraph speak for itself. Remember that this story is taking place in Brooklyn. Btw the sky is blue.

Moreover, he’s refused an offer from the DA for a possible lighter sentence in return for spilling the beans on the sale of judgeships, saying he knows nothing about that. (A Brooklyn Democratic boss who’s in the dark on selling judgeships? What color is the sky on your planet, Clarence?)

So let’s play the race card. Nothing else has worked to keep this CRIMINAL out of jail.

“Every person of color in this city, particularly those who have any level of prominence, better understand they’re coming for my brother today, [but] they’re coming for you tomorrow,” intoned Eric Adams of 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement, the Press reported.

Councilman Al Vann insisted that “the system has always criminalized us.

Letitia James, declared that her constituents have good reason to suspect a racial conspiracy,
(She learned that one from Hillary btw)

I loathe playing the Clinton card, I wish he would go away, but ever since that clown beat the system it emboldened the Democrats to play every dirty trick in the world to stay out of trouble. The Republicans have only themselves to blame though. They gave up Newt on a BS charge, they gave up Lott on a trumped up racial charge so the DNC knows they can play any card and make the Republicans look bad. I have mentioned this before but the Republicans had the chance to remove Clinton and take the teeth out of the Democratic attack machine but the did not have the stomach to do the right thing. The Democrats are like little kids badgering there parents, they find an opening and pound and pound and pound till the adult gives up.

I think this Abramoff thing may be the thing the Republicans need. Clear out the flotsam and jetsam and get some people in office that have spines and the convictions of their beliefs. I doubt it but I can hope.

  233. Wino on January 15th, 2006 at 10:51 pm

    Headshaker,

You seem to think that because the statement “close personal friend” was used that this actually MEANS something in Washington DC.

It is false civility. Very similar to one side of the aisle calling the other side “distinguished” etc.

It means nothing at all, so quit bringing it up. It’s just a political phrase that means, “This guy contributed, and gets his picture taken with me to put up in his office or business.”

The Dems ARE trying to dodge this one, but it will blow up in their faces, just like all the other times. Americans (with an exception of 30% koolaid drinkers) don’t like duplicity. You lost the majority because of this kind of behavior. You’ll suffer again, as a party, if you continue.

And I’m lovin’ every minute of it. We IMPROVE our party by culling the crooks. You sabotage your party by sustaining the corrupt politicians you elect.

  234. neocon on January 15th, 2006 at 10:52 pm

p.s. HS, go on to bed, you are just making it worse for your argument. People who cannot debate attack those who would debate them. I thought you were better than that! I’ve always respected your comments and never told you to back away or to stay out of it. Desparate, are you? You bet!

How do you see that as not being a slam to me? Referreering? How about commenting? WTH does he think he is? What the hell does he know about “refereeing?”

You really ought to see it as it is, IMHO! He’s losing an argument and lashing out. I just pointed it out!

Closing the gate after the horse is out are we?

Senate Democrats Emphasizing Ethics, Not Alito
    By Charles Babington
    Washington Post Staff Writer
    Monday, January 16, 2006

On Wednesday — when Senate Democrats return from recess and huddle on the Alito nomination for the first time since the hearing — congressional, national and state party leaders plan a major Washington event. It will not focus not on Alito but on a proposed “honest leadership act” that would ban gifts to lawmakers, among other things. EMPHASIS ADDED

Sure thing that in the future the Democrats willl use the new act to ATTACK the opposition. Why looky here they admit that they do not have any solutions but to obstruct and attack.

(The Democrats) Now, forced to decide soon whether to launch an Alito filibuster that is likely to fail, several are asking whether it is worth the effort, party insiders say. One top Senate Democratic aide, who spoke on background because he did not have his boss’s permission to talk publicly, predicted a closed debate Wednesday on whether it makes more sense to focus on the most promising issues, such as GOP ethics woes, and avoid being tarred as “obstructionists” for trying to derail a confirmation vote.

Yeah sure it is those mean old corrupted Republicans. I knew it.

Meantime, Reid, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and other party leaders are focusing on congressional ethics and allegations of GOP corruption. They hope Americans can relate to the issue viscerally, as they did last year to Democratic pleas to “protect Social Security” from Bush’s proposed private accounts.

To that end, Democrats will argue that ethically dubious practices in Congress hit Americans in the pocketbook. Republican lawmakers pass bills that give tax breaks to oil companies, and forbid the federal government to negotiate lower prescription drug prices for Medicare, because they are beholden to petroleum and pharmaceutical lobbyists, said Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), his party’s chief recruiter for House candidates this fall.
