All kidding aside,Sheehan needs some help. This woman is nuts and is making a mockery of our system of government. She rants against our freedoms and calls the POTUS names but goes to Venezuela and kisses the ring of a Dictator.
Only in America would this be tolerated. She is the hero of the left thats for sure. The scary part is these people have lost the last two elections by one state. God forbid they get back in power.
I laughed when they showed Kathleen Blankstare, as Bush was mentioning the hurricane-ravaged areas of the Gulf Coast.
She just stared and stared.
Anyone know why Mayor Wonka is still in power?
I do.
Because he’s a democrat.
If a republican were to mention something like ‘a chocolate city’, history has proven that they’d be out of power.
It’s happenned before, and it’ll happen again. To republicans.
My satelite signal was cancelled yesterday, right before the SotU address. I did catch it, however, o the only station that I still have. For some reason, I’m still being beamed Fox News, and I’m not complaining one bit.
I just wanted to alert you to some incidents that have been happening here in West Houston. One of our neighbors in Madera Vista (subdivision across from us) was burglarized recently. Also, a woman was attacked a couple of weeks ago in her driveway and threatened at knifepoint. Luckily, the man was spooked and ran off, leaving her physically unharmed. This happened in Parkway Estates (the subdivision off Eldridge between Briar Forest and Westheimer) in the afternoon as she was bringing in her groceries. Lastly, the father of one of Hugh Jr’s friends was held up at gunpoint and pistol whipped at the Chase Bank on Memorial between Dairy Ashford and Kirkwood last Friday at 2:30 p.m.
I know crime in Houston has recently gone up due to the influx of Katrina victims, and I’m afraid it’s moving near our peaceful little neighborhood. I don’t won’t to scare anyone, but just alert everyone to be on guard. I myself am guilty for leaving my garage door open all day long, but not anymore. i guess I’ll have to remember to set my alarm everytime I go out.
AND…2 weeks ago, early AM, turned in the Laguna subdivision, saw a man walking his dog, instead of a club, he was carrying a rifle, holding it against his body. I thought I had made a mistake, but receiving the above e-mail, I guess I was right. Be careful, it has been mentioned that we have our share of ‘newbies’.

Sonia,
Those incidents are all very close to where Matzilla got mugged. It just amazes me that my old neighborhood (’58 to ‘73) is experiencing this. Sounds like it’s time to obtain a concealed carry permit.
We live in Cypress and our crime has gone up too. We had an HOA meeting and the place was packed. The constables told us the near by Wal-Mart has attracted a lot of undesirables to the area. He said they spend most of the day there processing shoplifters.
HS, yes thats the crime scene. I was in there last week, my son wanted to go to the Micky D’s. I think I saw 50 cent and his posse come in. I dont know which is worse. The illegal Mexicans or the wanna be “record producers.”
#13 - Believe it or not, I got a call from Gallup last night regarding that very Wal-Mart. They called me during the SOTU address. I almost told them to bugger off, but I had to take the 3 minutes and lambast the place.
Unfortunately, I will probably shop there again this week. Gotta get my cheap toilet paper, after all.
How could ANYone not be for making the “tax cuts” permanent? Watching those leftist idiots sit on their hands at that point in the speech was so infuriating.
Those lunatics! Those leftists idiots! They’re too stupid to hold public office! Haven’t they figured out yet that communism doesn’t work?? Why do they want to make everyone “equal??” The only way to do that is to make everyone equally poor!
Anyone who receives welfare, or is unemployed, should NOT be allowed to vote, because all they do is vote democrat!
Hearing you guys talking about all this craziness
in Houston is making me real glad we moved to The
North. We almost moved to Katy/ West Houston but
couldn’t find any trees.
I was downtown awhile back for a Rockets game and
was accosted by a number of moneygrubbers. Don’t
feel safe there anymore.
I’ve been to that one a few times, it’s not that bad yet. The one at Cutten Rd. and FM1960 is well on its’ way to being among the “undesireables”. I think that’s one reason why Target opened a store right across the way.
I can’t say that I necessarily disagree about the CHL, as I would like to have it myself. However, it seems to me that in many situations you simply won’t have time to pull your piece, chamber a round, and bring it up in time for it to be useful. My suggestion for you guys is martial arts… actually, that in addition to a CHL. With 9000 extra vermin in our midst, we’re all going to need every advantage we can get.
It always amazes me how law enforcement prioritizes. There are gangs shooting people not far away from where they are nailing the taxpayers who pay their salaries for being 10 miles over the speed limit.
I’ll bet MattZilla feels a whole lot safer now that we have extra cops making sure guys aren’t getting it on in the park. Sure is good to know that the priorities are in order.
RE: HPD Priorities
It has been several weeks ago, I was listening to the local news and this is the order of three reports that I think speak for themselves.
1. Report on a series of rapes/murders
2. A report on the increase of the murder rate in Houston
3. A report that the task force to curb graffiti and tagging is to be recreated.
I don’t want to accused of copyright infringement but I will just say I will echo Headshaker’s sentiment.
#26 & #29. At the ‘gathering’ last Friday evening, Matt discussed how [in spite of the ever increasing taxes] that there are 1000 less police officers now than there were 10 years ago. The city administration is always threatening reductions in city service if the tax base isn’t allowed to grow unchecked, but they already have made cuts. Just where are the tax dollars going?
I heard on Edd Hendee’s show this morning that carjackers tried to hijack a lady’s car in Jersey Village. They held a gun to her head but someone (it wasn’t made clear) she was able to pull her gun and shoot both ‘jackers. One ‘jacker killed the other wounded. Turns out she was a Richland (?) police officer living in Jersey Village apartments. The cops caught another perp a short while later.
Wallymarts are nothing more than magnets for illegal alien scum and Katrina muggers. They both throw trash where ever they open something(probably recently shoplifted)and expect us to be compassionate for them because they had it rough growing up or because their own countries can’t support them.
And for those that say the illegals, or Katrina victims for that fact, actually pay money into Social Security and sales tax, I say lies, lies and more lies.
#3, “does that mean we are going to have two more weeks of winter?”
WORSE! The Libertarians and Republicans both have candidates in the 18th CD this election cycle, which will fracture any chance for say an Independent to beat her; which will result in at least THREE more years of fridgid relations with Washington leaders, and the Queen dominating political photo ops in Houston, Texas, and beyond.
Well, Royko, I’m in her district, and want the districts re-gerrymandered to get me out of it so I have some representation instead of a photo op hound.
My appraisal has gone up 100% in two years… I’m making a mint on real estate values… oh, wait.. that’s just the tax baseline.
In all seriousness, I live in a booming neighborhood that I don’t see declining any time soon, partially due to the higher appraisals. I fought mine, else it would have gone up even more, and now have the homestead exemption (can’t get that the first year), so the rate of increase should slow down…. but it’s like compound interest. 10% next year is going to be equal to 20% two years ago.
A note to those who live in the area…a predator tried to abduct some children as they were getting off their bus. This happened in the Yupon Ranch subdivistion (on FM529 between Barker-Cyprress and Fry Rd.) The man was in a black truck.,..he is black and has many tattoos.
The children go to Duryea Elementary and they were unarmed.
Went on to Kay Bailey Hutchison’s site (writing a letter to her about my displeasure about fair tax http://www.fairtax.org, the border, spending etc…) and they have a thing where they will fly a flag for you at the capital. http://hutchison.senate.gov/flags.htm
Sounds pretty cool, might be a good birthday present for somebody.
If you look at her site it amazes me that she has time to think about the really important things like running our government. (Headshaker thing here)
#40 Mrs.SC had a similar experience while substituting @ Hutzel elementary, except he was on foot and came through a gap in the fence while the kids were on the playground. She directed him to the office and he slithered away.
Smackle,
A Texas flag flown over the capitol building in Austin (simliar program available through you State Rep)and a U.S. flag flown in Washington were a cherished Christmas gift from my Dad.
Are you aware that you can protest the ever increasing assessed values? If the ARB seems unfair, HB182 allows you to take HCAD to binding arbitration for a few hundred bucks instead of having to pay thousands for an attorney.
This month’s Texas A&M real estate center magazine has a story (pages 10 and 11) showing residential appreciation in Houston has only averaged 0.6% annually since 1979 when the CPI inflation factors are subtracted.
I’m afraid that the whole Northwest-Westside of Houston (from 249 to 59 and all along I-10) has become crap because of the nastiness from New Orleans. Is it possible to round them all up and ship them back (kind of like immigration)?
What scares me most is that I have two small Children (2 yrs and 5 yrs…both girls) and they are living/growing up around this.
I make no illusion that I can “protect” myself (that’s what my gun is for) but what about my children? I can’t even let my 5 year old play out front for fear that she’ll be snatched.
May I interrupt for a moment of selfless promotion?
For those on the East side and after all the chili talk from yesterday. The Rotary Club of Highlands is having it’s 31st Anuual Chili Feast, Raffle & Auction Fundraiser this Saturday, Feb 4. Top prize in the Raffle is a 2006 Chevy HHR + 11 other prizes. Congressman Ted Poe along with other local officials will be in attendance. Ted is bringing one of those “Flags from the Capital” for our auction. Please join us if you can. Exit 787 off I10 East.
Yeah, I’ve been to the Cutten/1960 one as well. Bad, but I think the craziest I’ve ever seen is the Wal-Mart at West Rd and I-45 on a friday night. (Across from Fry’s) WHOA! If I ever go back, I’m wearing body armor…
My fear of getting caught in crossfire is contrasted with my sadness at seeing enourmous, mis-shapen people filling carts with box after box of ding-dongs, frozen pizza, soda, etc. I wonder what has happened in their lives to lead them so astray? They appear lost. I think they need God in their lives, perhaps someone to love them… It really is sad to see human potential wasted….. What a shame….
I fought it, and “learned the ropes” this time around. I’ll fight it again, next year, and I’ll have more ammunition.
What I think is unfair is that I have to bring all of my materials pre-prepared, while the tax trolls get to bring a live link to their database. I should be able to access it, as well, to show my side of the story.
I’ll do better next year. It’s always a learning experience the first time you fight any “authority” such as HOA’s, government offices, or schools.
Here’s a question for all of us who have seen our once safe neighborhoods turned into scum:
If you had known then (during and after Katrina) what you know now (about the crime, ect.) Would you have been infavor of shipping in the evacuees from NO? Or would you have left them there to fend for themselves (and maybe be shiped somewhere else)?
I don’t think the Katrina victims are all to blame. Things were happening in these areas before they arrived, but certainly the problems have been exacerbated by the influx of the criminal element from LA.
It says more about the degradation of our society as a whole than anything else.
I’ve been to the Wallyworld at West/I-45 as well, but it’s been a few years. I remember it being bad back then… I can just imagine it now. The proximity to the Gunspoint Greenspoint area probably has a lot to do with it. It’s sad to see what happens to what used to be nice middle class neighborhoods. The Sharpstown area is another example of it. I’d move out to west Texas, but then I’d probably be overrun by the illegal immigrants on their way to Houston.
I hereby throw in another “I told you so” concerning eavesdropping and national security. Anyone who has a problem with this doesn’t understand the difference between a cop and a soldier.
I used to own a kiosk operation at Sharpstown Mall, and surprisingly there were no problems, other than I lost money during the Christmas season which is virtually impossible!
#39 - wino. A perfect example of why tax caps are needed. Starting with the purchase price of your home and then add the acumulated tax bill(s), then compare the total cost to the estimated sales price. I fear there’s not much left over for the seller. After the real estate agent takes their cut it’ll most likely be a negetive number.
Repost from yesterday - what did you guys think of the SOTU address?
I was somewhat disappointed in the speech overall. For example:
We hear claims that immigrants are somehow bad for the economy - even though this economy could not function without them.
This is hogwash. Nobody in their right mind is saying that immigrands are bad for the economy, they’re saying that illegal immigrants are bad for the economy, security, etc.
#39 - wino, I got lucky during redistricting last year. They split my neighborhood down the middle and I got on the Gene Green side of the line. Anybody but Sheila!
Dude, add to that the Spring Branch area. I lived there when it was the best neighborhood to raise kids. Great Spring Branch schools. I went there not long ago and I felt I was in Mexico or some asian country.
During a search of the vehicle, the officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the baby’s diaper. The couple was arrested after the drugs were found in the diaper.
Question: How do you locate pot in a kid’s diaper by SMELL? Gotta get pretty close to he diaper, no? I just picture this cop holding a kid up in the air and sniffing the diaper. Do they teach that at the academy?
My family was seriously considering this place for a while. It’s still in the back of my mind, I just don’t know what the heck I’d do for a living out there. If I figure that out, we’ll likely be outta here.
#62, #67 - hey, hey guys. Go easy on Florida now. The native Floridians (me being one) are on the whole ok. They know how to use a voting machine too. Its that riff-raff from up north that give us a bad name! Its like some of the people from NOLA giving Houston a bad name.

If you plan to ‘carry’, make certain you have a license and do not hesitate to use it (if you are in danger), if a person hesitates for just a second, you run the risk of being the statistic. Word of caution.
Calls for impeachment are more mainstream… for democrats.
Need we hear from them one more time that we’re the ones who are out of touch?
I say, “Hear! Hear!” Let them continue their screeching. The more they yell, the more they’ll alienate those in the middle, and the better it is for my side.
#72 hamous
It’s not polite to ask someone where they are from. If they’re from Texas, you can tell. If they’re not, it isn’t nice to embarrass them about it.
Dude, I was busy all the time at the mall with a customized product line, but it took so long to customize each item that we could only service a couple of customers at a time. I needed more equipment but couldn’t fit it in the kiosk.
We stayed there on our way back home from Big Bend last year, and this is what sparked our interest in the place:
Bringing Broadband to the Big Bend
Billing itself the “Cactus Capital of Texas” in the Big Bend area of West Texas, 65 miles from anywhere, the small town of Sanderson is committed to providing its citizens with a link to the rest of the world through the Internet. The rugged individualism that helped settle Sanderson and the West in the 19th century is alive and well, and working hard to prosper in the 21st century.
If I could work out a way to do the telecommute thing, I’d move today. Realistically, you wouldn’t need to make as much money to live there. I think the median selling price of a house is around $50k. Plus, you’d have the benefit of being that close to Big Bend for outings. Hmmmm… sure does give me the traveling bug again…
Forced by their inclination to be anti-Bush, the Chronic-Lies can’t help but lead with a negative paragraph in an otherwise positive development in Iraq.
I think their bias is genetic. Either that or they learned how to write without learning how to read.
Yeah, that is another serious reservation on my part. Cripes, the town is pretty well within walking distance of Mexico. It’s probably one of those deals where the ranchers leave food and water out for them because it’s easier than replacing busted doors/locks all the time.
You may be right there. It is pretty mountainous terrain with not a lot of stuff along the way. I would suspect that without carrying a prohibitively large quantity of water, travelers on foot there would likely become buzzard chow.
If you haven’t visited yet, get over there. His posts are very impressive, well thought out, and thought-provoking. I don’t always agree with his perspective, but the information is solid.
(note to sarge: I’ll accept a personal check or credit card)
He said Mr Bush’s administration had “made a terrible mistake by basically ignoring this issue (greenhouse gases) and future generations of Americans and future generations of the world will pay a very heavy price”. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/printpage/0,5942,17960589,00.html
I don’t know why I do this to myself, but I just read this on Senator Dianne Feinstein’s website:
Clearly the federal government has not done an adequate job of preventing oil companies from making unprecedented profits while dramatically raising the price at the pump for the consumer. Since George Bush became president, gasoline prices are up 57 percent and oil companies are reporting record profits.
This woman is clearly without a clue. So since oil companies are making unprecedented profits while our children go hungry, I guess she’ll be targeting the pharmaceutical industry next? Oh… maybe not… they’re not the corporate villains du jour. I guess I still have an old copy of the LLL³ manual. I’ll have to see about getting myself an updated copy.
If past patterns hold:
Someone will argue with me that they don’t need prescription drugs to get to work, so it’s not a fair comparison.
If McCain gets the nod in 2008, the only way I’d vote for him is if Hitlery gets it for the other party. I’d even vote for Lurch or Algore before I’d vote for McCain. McCain is a cross between Shiela Jackson Lee for camera hogging, and Clinton for pretending to be something he is not.
“Clearly the federal government has not done an adequate job of preventing oil companies from making unprecedented profits”
Pretty much sums up the Democrat story dunnin it?
Absolutely! The last thing I want is the Federal Government sticking its’ nose into the profits of private industry. The funny thing is that some Dimmos would probably even agree with that, if the industry in question wasn’t oil. The sad thing is that some RINO’s are on board with the “big oil bad” kind of thinking. Why does anyone entertain this kind of socialist rhetoric?
The government expects to borrow a record $188 billion in the January-March quarter, even more than it anticipated three months ago, the Treasury Department announced Monday.
Treasury officials said they still expect to hit the current debt ceiling of $8.184 trillion in mid-February but will be able to use various bookkeeping maneuvers to keep from disrupting borrowing operations until mid-March.
Not as good as it looks…just biiiiiig margins. Net ain’t much more than $50K.
It’s the question of what one defines as profits, and then what one defines as “too much.”
So when it comes to taxes, I’m one of those “eeeevvvillll” rich folks the Dmes want to tax out of existence. The reality is that I’m in a bidness where I make money out of what comes from inside my head, (cost to me, therfore value to the gummint = $0.00) so the gummint sees big, taxable profits, and I pay much more than other folks who net $50K, because I make those eeeeevilllll profits.
When it comes to groceries, housepayments, lectricity, etc., I’m in the same boat as everybody else.
“The Advanced Tactical Laser can place a 10-centimeter-wide beam with the heating power of a blowtorch on distant targets for up to 100 shots. The Advanced Tactical Laser can produce a four-inch-diameter beam of energy that can slice through metal from a distance of 9 miles.”
“The ATL is not subject to direct attack by small arms or shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles. In fact, it can be far enough away that its action is almost covert. The laser beam makes no sound and is not visible. The effect of the beam may not be easily associated with a presence of an aircraft several miles away!”
So basically what can happen is that Hajii’s turban will burst into flame, his AK and RPG melt in his hands and he won’t see it, won’t hear it, and won’t know where it came from or how far away.
I do assume he’ll be able to feel it and smell it, though…….
The Boston Globe and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette said slips containing the names and credit card numbers of as many as 240,000 subscribers of both newspapers were accidentally delivered with bundles of papers last weekend in Worcester….. The Telegram & Gazette has stopped recycling paper that includes customer data, officials said.
gay marriage: not the governments decision, but then who would give out marriagelicenses? lets vote on whether to keep it(states rights)
cloning: sex or an exact replica of me or my spouse, hard choice(there is also adoption)
abortion: use the f-ing rubber it is cheaper
pres. bush: not the conservitive I supported anymore, we can not pull out of iraq now though so just finish it up quickely(it would be an anarchy if we did pull out)
Social (in)sucurity- flawed system that YOU will never get as much out of, infact if you barried all the money you put in SS then you would have more than you will get unless you live to 1000000000000. it just doesnot work for a shrinking population with a longer lifespan. period, give me my money it is not in the constitution to keep us from being dumbasses
all other programs to help the (poor, homeless, single women, terrorist, ect): not your job, if I had money that was not eten by taxes I could DONATE to these orginization
The more I think about the illegal alien situation and GWB not trying to stop it,the only conclusion I can come to is GWB and a few other people know the only way they will be able to pay for SS for all the baby boomers getting ready to retire is to let as many young Mexicans as possible into the country and have them contribute to SS to pay the bill. They are mostly young and having kids. Its like a Ponzi scheme and we are running out of lower rung payers. To keep the people at the top paid they need more payers. Might be quite a simple explanation. If you dont hear from me after this post it means I nailed it and the black helicopters are near.
Have you figured out the Bilderbergers and Rothchilds really run the show?
Are Black Helicopteres circling you neighborhood?
Do you think tinfoil just isn’t enough?
Wel, come on down to Sarge’s Compound Emporium! We have all the latest in old Surplus Rations, chainlink fences, sandbags, concertina wire and all those things that make a Compund comfy and safe.
Head down this week and take advantage of our latest special: Schoolbusses, just delivered by a special arrangment with the City of New Orleans! Now compund is complete without one of these buried in the back yard (sight water damge is tobe expected).
Not a bad idea, but they might run out of money soon.
The Strait of Hormuz works two ways. You dould shut it down with a canoe….and our Navy has reaaaal big ones. OPEC is not cooperating with Iran, because Iran is not real popular with her neighbors (read here competitors). Iran’s oil is going to run out in about 20 years, and she’ll need to go looking for more, which has got all he neighbors just a bit nervous. They will play ball with us if it comes down to shutting off Iran’s flow of oil out and money in.
There might be some short term pain…oil at around $75 a barrel until the markets see that OPEC won’t shut down. China will bitch, but if we can guarantee that she will get oil from somewhere else, I think they’ll go along. Venezuela is the best choice for that.
Iran’s economy is not the best, and there is lots of ethnic unrest, probably instigated by US covert operations across the borders with Iraq and Afghanistan
(another reason why going into Iraq was strategically the right thing to do for the Global War on Terror).
A quick series of airstrikes to slow down thier developement long enough for the economic feces to encounter the whirling blades to the point where the Iranian people with self correct the situation is probably what will be agreed upon by those nations that can make agreements like that.
It will be understood that what the action wll do is to save us from a nasty little nuclear exchange between Iran and Israel (Israel’s only real effective option) which would make everybody’s gas pumps glow in the dark.

gregg, whereabouts do you live in Cypress; I’m between Barker and Hwy 6.
Are you talking about the Wal-Mart at Spring Cypress? I was there Monday and it looked like a gang-fest walking around.
One thing I noticed by the number of DEm,ocrats stading up at various times during the SOTUS was we can’t count on them to help Congress pass:
-Making the tax cuts permanent…which means they wnat our taxes to go up
-Pass the Ptriot act…which means they want to go back to not connecting dots
-Fix social Security…which means they don’t want
Republicans to get the credit for it
From the “stupid criminals” annals:
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/01/31/D8FG12SG0.html
I don’t think any comment is necessary.
#10 Same with the Wallyworld on fm529. Hate the place.

I’m talking about the one on 290/Spring Cypress.
gregg, it’s “fitty cent” not 50 cent. Gotta get the lingo down in case you’re confronted.
You know, if 180,000 former New Orleans residents are in Houston….and only 5% are bad actors…Whew!….9000 additional sleazebags in our midst.

I’ve been to that one a few times, it’s not that bad yet. The one at Cutten Rd. and FM1960 is well on its’ way to being among the “undesireables”. I think that’s one reason why Target opened a store right across the way.

Crime is going up every where. What is our Houston Police department doing about it? It is all about sex folks.
#26 squawkie
It always amazes me how law enforcement prioritizes. There are gangs shooting people not far away from where they are nailing the taxpayers who pay their salaries for being 10 miles over the speed limit.
You wonder why I shake my head.
#26,
I’ll bet MattZilla feels a whole lot safer now that we have extra cops making sure guys aren’t getting it on in the park. Sure is good to know that the priorities are in order.
/grumble… grumble… spit…
The cops caught another perp a short while later.
re 32 - Oops - Songbird, you beat me to it.
Band uniforms and toy trains, An Observer… and into the pockets of real estate speculators who contribute heavily to our local politicians.
Wallymarts are nothing more than magnets for illegal alien scum and Katrina muggers. They both throw trash where ever they open something(probably recently shoplifted)and expect us to be compassionate for them because they had it rough growing up or because their own countries can’t support them.
And for those that say the illegals, or Katrina victims for that fact, actually pay money into Social Security and sales tax, I say lies, lies and more lies.
jjb,
#3, “does that mean we are going to have two more weeks of winter?”

GET OUT! GET OUT! while you still can.

Went on to Kay Bailey Hutchison’s site (writing a letter to her about my displeasure about fair tax
http://www.fairtax.org, the border, spending etc…) and they have a thing where they will fly a flag for you at the capital. http://hutchison.senate.gov/flags.htm
#20 - I do, but I was referring to the British slang definition of the term.

Rumor has it that Queen Shelia is not setting up camp early to get an isle seat.
#42 Mrs. SC,
Where is the school you are referring to located?
#45 Royko
Spark,
Even with the increase in crime, most of the evacuees are not criminals. It is always a small minority that ruins it for everyone else.
#51
I don’t think the Katrina victims are all to blame. Things were happening in these areas before they arrived, but certainly the problems have been exacerbated by the influx of the criminal element from LA.
It says more about the degradation of our society as a whole than anything else.
It’s sickening and sad.
I don’t mean to imply that everyone is of the criminal element. I was just wondering what the opinions were of others.
Going back to the crime issue…should we blame HPD or the sheriffs for failing to control the increase? And then again is it really their fault?
I’ve been to the Wallyworld at West/I-45 as well, but it’s been a few years. I remember it being bad back then… I can just imagine it now. The proximity to the
GunspointGreenspoint area probably has a lot to do with it. It’s sad to see what happens to what used to be nice middle class neighborhoods. The Sharpstown area is another example of it. I’d move out to west Texas, but then I’d probably be overrun by the illegal immigrants on their way to Houston.http://cqpolitics.com/cq.com/www.cq.com/public/20060131_homeland.html
This is hogwash. Nobody in their right mind is saying that immigrands are bad for the economy, they’re saying that illegal immigrants are bad for the economy, security, etc.
More here…

It’s Florida. Need I say more?
#39 - wino, I got lucky during redistricting last year. They split my neighborhood down the middle and I got on the Gene Green side of the line. Anybody but Sheila!
Dude, add to that the Spring Branch area. I lived there when it was the best neighborhood to raise kids. Great Spring Branch schools. I went there not long ago and I felt I was in Mexico or some asian country.
Spark,
I still think it was the right thing to do… even in hindsight.

#67 I was going to make reference to George Carlin’s routine where he calls pot $h*t…. but decided to forego the easy one.

Here’s the whole spiel:

If I could work out a way to do the telecommute thing, I’d move today. Realistically, you wouldn’t need to make as much money to live there. I think the median selling price of a house is around $50k. Plus, you’d have the benefit of being that close to Big Bend for outings. Hmmmm… sure does give me the traveling bug again…

#80 Squawwwwwwkster,
Yeah, that is another serious reservation on my part. Cripes, the town is pretty well within walking distance of Mexico. It’s probably one of those deals where the ranchers leave food and water out for them because it’s easier than replacing busted doors/locks all the time.

I wonder if maybe that remote an area is NOT a crossing point of first choice.
Shannon,
You may be right there. It is pretty mountainous terrain with not a lot of stuff along the way. I would suspect that without carrying a prohibitively large quantity of water, travelers on foot there would likely become buzzard chow.

Someone will argue with me that they don’t need prescription drugs to get to work, so it’s not a fair comparison.

Good!! I posted the #91 because I found it to be negative about McCain. I was feeling guilty about my positive post about him in #85.

“Clearly the federal government has not done an adequate job of preventing oil companies from making unprecedented profits”
Pretty much sums up the Democrat story dunnin it?
The job of the government, in thier estimation, is to prevent oil companies from making unprecedented profits.
I invested $600 in a compter, $150 in software, and $1560 in gasoline last year, which is 4.5% of my total earnings.
Hope Di Fi don’t hear about ME.

They didn’t call me. They must have read my mind.
#96,
Hey SHANNON, you better start paying attention,
I just saw one of your trucks…

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/30/treasuryborrowing.ap/
The government expects to borrow a record $188 billion in the January-March quarter, even more than it anticipated three months ago, the Treasury Department announced Monday.
Treasury officials said they still expect to hit the current debt ceiling of $8.184 trillion in mid-February but will be able to use various bookkeeping maneuvers to keep from disrupting borrowing operations until mid-March.
#98
I’d do it if I could just reduce those non-business realted Compund Futures I’m investing in….

I beleive that poll, too. It fall into line with what most of us have been saying:
Dissatisfaction with the Pubbies translates only into more votes for whoever is going to be the most conservative. DEMS, PAY ATTENTION HERE!
The dissatisfaction with the Pubbies does NOT translate into votes for LIBERALS.
RUN MORE CONSERVATIVE DEMOCRATS, MARGINALIZE THE LEFT WING MOON BATS, AND GET RID OF HOWARD DEAN!
This crap about “We just can’t get our message out.” is not why you’re losing. The problem is you get too much of your Liberal Message out.

Smacky
You live in a community houseboat?
I knew it. Sarge has a wrecked house boat on the property too.

Impressive, but the C-130 is an LST;
Large Slow Target
But 10 miles away from a turban clad bad guy with an AK is close enough for gummint work. But the AAA would be murder.
I’ll see if I can find out more….
Here’s a better description of what the program is supposed to do.
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/systems/atl.htm
This is one bad mofo:
The Boston Globe and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette said slips containing the names and credit card numbers of as many as 240,000 subscribers of both newspapers were accidentally delivered with bundles of papers last weekend in Worcester….. random thoughts:
gay marriage: not the governments decision, but then who would give out marriagelicenses? lets vote on whether to keep it(states rights)
cloning: sex or an exact replica of me or my spouse, hard choice(there is also adoption)
abortion: use the f-ing rubber it is cheaper
pres. bush: not the conservitive I supported anymore, we can not pull out of iraq now though so just finish it up quickely(it would be an anarchy if we did pull out)
Social (in)sucurity- flawed system that YOU will never get as much out of, infact if you barried all the money you put in SS then you would have more than you will get unless you live to 1000000000000. it just doesnot work for a shrinking population with a longer lifespan. period, give me my money it is not in the constitution to keep us from being dumbasses
all other programs to help the (poor, homeless, single women, terrorist, ect): not your job, if I had money that was not eten by taxes I could DONATE to these orginization
I have an even simpler explanation:
One World Government
It’s coming, and we’re electing leaders who are facilitating it. At least three in a row, so far, and maybe more.

HS,
Your suggestion is right out of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer sold his life storys to J.Peterman.
Iran’s economy is not the best, and there is lots of ethnic unrest, probably instigated by US covert operations across the borders with Iraq and Afghanistan
http://battalions2.blogspot.com/2006/01/unrest-in-iran.html
(another reason why going into Iraq was strategically the right thing to do for the Global War on Terror).
A quick series of airstrikes to slow down thier developement long enough for the economic feces to encounter the whirling blades to the point where the Iranian people with self correct the situation is probably what will be agreed upon by those nations that can make agreements like that.
It will be understood that what the action wll do is to save us from a nasty little nuclear exchange between Iran and Israel (Israel’s only real effective option) which would make everybody’s gas pumps glow in the dark.
