Democrat disgrace
by The Panda Man · 02/07/2006 7:39 pmThe funeral of Coretta Scott King, widow of Martin Luther King Jr., should have been a solemn occasion marking the passing of a woman who was at the heart of the civil rights movement in America.
Instead Mrs. King got this:
LITHONIA, Georgia (Reuters) - Speakers took a rare opportunity to criticize U.S. President George W. Bush’s policies to his face at the funeral on Tuesday of Coretta Scott King, widow of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Civil-rights leader the Rev. Joseph Lowery and former President Jimmy Carter cited Mrs. King’s legacy as a leader in her own right and advocate of nonviolence as they launched barbs over the Iraq war, government social policies and Bush’s domestic eavesdropping program.
Lowery, former head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, which King helped found in 1957, gave a playful reading of a poem in eulogy of Mrs. King. "She extended Martin’s message against poverty, racism and war / She deplored the terror inflicted by our smart bombs on missions way afar," he said. "We know now there were no weapons of mass destruction over there / But Coretta knew and we knew that there are weapons of misdirection right down here / Millions without health insurance. Poverty abounds. For war billions more but no more for the poor."
The disgusting display of disrespect has detracted, intentionally or not, from the honor due Mrs. King, as at least part of every news story is now devoted to Democrat antics. The Clintons added their special talents to the event, and the entire affair took on a “Wellstone Memorial” air, reminiscent of a political rally rather than a funeral.
Thankfully, President Bush and his father rose above the pettiness.
Bush, speaking before his critics, said, "By going forward with a strong and forgiving heart, Coretta Scott King not only secured her husband’s legacy, she built her own."
Apparently the Democrat legacy will be one of non-stop politicking. Attack, attack, attack, never stop attacking.

Do any of you really expect more from liberals? This is distastful to the extreme. But you can bet all the liberals will be joyous with what happened today. No accounting for taste, honor or accountability with the libs. Hope all you libs are happy right now. The funeral of a great American was denigrated by a few liberals who didn’t think about Mrs. King — their agenda meant everything! Embarrassing and sickening. You libs happy????
re#1 - I am not trolling, I just want to hear from the libs on this! Is that trolling? Hope not!
When you are surrounded by vipers expect to get bit.
Neo, Can I pretend to be a lib? Ok thanks,
(begin Lib rant)
GWB killed Coretta and he will kill all of you.He hates black people. He wants Halliburton to rule the world so he and Chaney can make millions. He sent the hurricane to NO to displace black folk so they cant vote Democrat in LA. The Jews blew up the levees. No blood for oil. GWB went to Iraq because his daddy was the target of Saddam. The sanctions the US put on Iraq killed millions of children. All Saddam wanted was medicine for his people.
Ok, that hurt. Cant do that for very long or my head explodes. Willie, Wil Barnes,Rahman, cudos,I dont know how you do it day in and day out. What do ya’ll do to train for that?
Gregg

I don’t see any liberals trying to explain any of what went on. Shame on them! Where are you, Willie, Wil Barnes, Rahma, Gadboy, etc. How DO you explain such blatant partisian ship? I know you will not answer, because (hopefully) you have no answer. The left continues to amaze me — support for the terrorists, support for the communist regimes (Cuba, N. Korea, etc.), support for all traitors and subversives! HEY GUYS, where are you?
Sometimes I feel I live in a parallel universe. To believe that RFK wiretapping Dr. Martin Luther King is like GWBush authorizing the interception of conversations between Al-Qaida and Americans or to believe that the situation in Iraq has anything to do with the struggle that Dr. King fought and won many years ago requires a suspension of disbelief that I am simply am not capable of.
The left is losing bigtime. This was The Wellstone Memorial redux.
My question is to African Americans. How long are you going to blindly place your faith in the democratic party when they have done so little for you. Today’s Republicans are all about “the content of one’s character” while the democrats seem only to be concerned with “the color of one’s skin”
Dr. King would be ashamed of Rev. Lowry. Jimmy Carter would be beneath the contemp of a great man like MLK
“So it goes”
Kurt Vonnegut
Truth spoken, and the conservatives are in a tizzy.
I heard all of Rev. Lowerys “speech”. I thought it was great to hear truth spoken, I bet Mrs King is singing his priaise.
Hell even GWB was clapping.
What would’ve happened if GW would’ve swiped back at them when he got to the mic?? They ain’t got no shame!!
Do you want to watch how goofy these people really are? Watch FSTV. Free Speech TV, channel 9500 on Dish Network. These people are goofy beyond your wildest imagination! If you’ve never seen or heard them speak, you are in for a treat. I can’t take more than about 15 minutes of it. They are truly dangerous! If these people ever get control of this country, we are done for!!!!
Never do you hear anything positive from them. It’s ALWAYS blaming someone, calling names, or obstructing progress. If you dont have a solution to a problem then shut up and get out of the way!!! I don’t recall Dr King calling names and acting foolish like they did. He seemed to be eloquent and made sense. These people rant and whine and blame. They make me think of those little import sports cars with the coffee can sized exhaust tips. They make a lot of noise and don’t go anywhere!!
Feagan - I am disappointed. GWB was clapping out of politeness and out of respect for whose life was being celebrated. What is he supposed to do, jump up and start debunking Lowery’s claims right there?
Even if EVERY SINGLE JAB he made was 100% true, this was not the forum to make them in, and I personally believe Lowery was disrespectful to Coretta Scott King’s memory in doing so.
Clinton’s ‘teasing hint of the possible presidential candidacy of his wife’ was out of place too.
Jim, disappointed ? If you watch the service, you will see, Rev Lowery received a standing ovation. seems he was speaking truth, to a rather appreciative audience. I suspect no one here, except me listened to Carter, Bush, Clinton, and Bush, Angelou, Lowery et all. I did, and I thought it was all quite good.
In a way Slick JWB II has brought this upon himself. He is now joined at the hip with Slick Willie I as part of an orchestrated scheme to get Sir Hillary elected.
Let the dynasty continue.
BTW Jim, I have heard lots of complaint from the right, but yet not one word of complaint from the King family.
Now if they complain, I will listen.
“Rev Lowery received a standing ovation. seems he was speaking truth, to a rather appreciative audience. I suspect no one here, except me listened to Carter, Bush, Clinton, and Bush, Angelou, Lowery et all. I did, and I thought it was all quite good”
The point is, the President of the United States attended the funeral and these people took it as an opportunity to insult him and make it political. The President (regardless of who it is) does not attend many funerals, mainly just heads of state. President GW was attending Ms King’s funeral was to show respect for the King family and the accomplishments of Dr King. But, to be treated like he was by a “reverend”, Jimmy Carterz, and have the Clinton’s up there having a good time laughing and promoting themselves was not only disgusting, but immoral. GW could not, and did not acknowledge the insult. It shows how liberals will stoop to any level to show their true selves. It was ugly and shameful!!
I have to go to bed…I just typed Jimmy Carter and Clinton in the same sentence..getting weak..brain cells dying…….aaaaaaaaahhhh
GWB’s speech and reaction exhibited respect and class. To follow that with a public attempt of a dressing down accomplishes two things 1) it shows an utter lack of grace on the part of Lowry and Carter 2) provides an opportunity for those in the audience to show their ignorance (for eating up such blatant sophistry) and crassness (I have yet to attend a funeral at which any eulogizer received a standing ovation)
The intelligence required to so clumsily weave the issues of NSA’s terrorist intercepts, hurricane Katrina and the war in Iraq into a memorial service is about what we witness from Senate Dems during the Alito hearings or in Julian Bonds recent screed comparing the GOP to the Taliban.
MLK was a man of great intellect and substance. It seems strange to honor his legacy (which is shared by Coretta King) with the pettiness of quite small men.
To borrow a phrase from your fellow traveler — DOTI. And to paraphrase the same — You wonder why my head is exploding.
Come on folks…
How many liberals have any measurable common sense, logic, or analytical ablilites? They cannot see {or understand} the problem with Lowery’s and Carter’s insults at a funeral of someone that “preached” civil rights, with the President sitting right behind them as they spewed their poison.
It’s one thing for a goofy “Poverty Pimp” (Lowery), to lower himself into the gutter so he can look good to all people that have an I.Q. less than their body temperature, but what about former President “Peanut-Head Carter”,…Has he no shame, and he calls himself a Christian?!?!
OH Sh__… Now I’m shaking my head!!!
The new joke is “I went to a politcal rally and a funeral broke out”.
To use the eulogy as a political statement is a travesty, definitely poor taste. And what a reflection of the person, we wonder about the state of this country’s woes.
Jimmy Carter !
Q. What does a ultra-liberal “Nut” farmer plant ?
A. Pea- NUTS !
And nuts is what the DNC is today, and ALL of their blind , can’t think for yourself, followers.
If the DNC and the speakers at the funeral was doing their homework they would see that one of Saddam’s ex-Generals is talking to the world and telling how Saddam shipped all of the WMD’s to Syria.
According to the rhetoric at the funeral, 9-11 and perhaps the Holocaust never happened. If it did happen all we have to do is to extend the hand of friendship, understanding, and be diverse with the terrorists.
The problem is after extening your hand you will pull back a stump! Islam is tolerant for only Islam and beware of cartoons !
We are now involved in a global was on radical Islamic terrorism and those idiots from the DNC “Dissed” Mrs. King, by disgracing her funeral and by politicizing it at the wrong time and place.
This shows you how desparate the left has become. Imagine if it was in the reverse and the RNC was was “dissing” the DNC at Mrs. Kings funeral !
The faithful media would be eating it alive

Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
Upon Accepting
THE PLANNED PARENTHOOD FEDERATION OF AMERICA MARGARET SANGER AWARD
(snip)
Mrs. Coretta Scott King delivered her husband’s acceptance speech on his behalf.
Before reading Dr. King’s speech, Mrs. King declared, “I am proud tonight to say a word in behalf of your mentor, and the person who symbolizes the ideas of this organization, Margaret Sanger. Because of her dedication, her deep convictions, and for her suffering for what she believed in, I would like to say that I am proud to be a woman tonight.”
Planned Parenthood is proud to reprint Dr. King’s acceptance speech.
Family Planning — A Special and Urgent Concern
by the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
(snip)
For these reasons we are natural allies of those who seek to inject any form of planning in our society that enriches life and guarantees the right to exist in freedom and dignity.
For these constructive movements we are prepared to give our energies and consistent support; because in the need for family planning, Negro and white have a common bond; and together we can and should unite our strength for the wise preservation, not of races in general, but of the one race we all constitute — the human race.
Of course Lowery got a standing ovation, he’s speaking in front of a Democratic crowd. If the Democrats want to turn a funeral into a political rally then so be it. Now, will people remember the who the funeral was for or some of the rhetoric that we heard. The press has made more of the comments about the President, then Mrs. King–that will be the memory we are left with!!!
The Political antics that took place yesterday at the hands of the Democrats came as no surprising to me. I have witnessed a total lack of class from all the Democratic leadership. For anyone to praise that exhibition is to place your self in the same light. The drum beat goes on. “No WMD’s”. I guess you liberals are totally incapable of grasping reality. I have absolutely no respect for these people or those that support them - and they have absolutely no credibility.
I have modified my thought from yesterday on what GWB should have done. He should have said “This is about the wonderful life of Coretta King. It is not the time or the place for political attacks against me. When we leave here you can do and say whatever you wish but for the time being can you please put your hatred of me and my family on hold till after we bury Ms.King”
That would have stunned and totally embarassed these idiots in a classy way.
While I’m reading these responses I’m listening to KSEV and once again heard the comments of ths jackass from Georgia. Jimmy Carter is the most spineless worm that has ever occupied the office of President. I had no respect for him before, and never will. This same sentiment goes forward to all the leaders of the DNC. They are not worthy of the trust of Americans, and are not capable of leadership.
#13 - if that’s the case, then perhaps the King family’s political agenda is more important to them than honoring one of their own?
#28 Their politcal agenda (abortion rights, gay rights, etc.) is their life legacy and it was honoring to King’s legacy to have used the occasion as such. Heck, if King could use the pulpit of a church to do political speeches why not a funeral?
I wonder if y’all that seem so enamored with the “King” family will feel the same way when the other side of Mr. King’s life becomes confirmed.
Will Planned Parenthood’s Sanger Award being given to Mr. King, and King’s acceptance, be dismissed by us pro-life?
Thanks be to Jesus for the advancements in political freedom for all but, at the same time, beware of putting to much stock on flawed men.
LOL ! Isn’t that the same crowd who was lecturing us all these years on how we should be compassionate and love one another? Didn’t they keep asking “can’t we all just get along”? Isn’t that the same group of folks who called every Christian Conservative a radical rightwing extremist? Didn’t they coin the phrase “the angry white men”? I just wonder, how would these people describe themselves? Are they the mainstream Democrat party ? All of this should make for a fun election year.
#29 Gregg, Well said Amen!
#31 Dave D: It was me, Jaime. OK?
OOPS I meant #26…That old “Cranial Rectal Insertion Problem” Slipping up again.
Jamie, Yours was good also ;=)
That idiot Carter failed to remember that it was President Kennedy doing the wire taps on MLK!
fasternu426 #9, you hit the nail on the head. To be a liberal, you have to lose the ability to use logic, common sense, and you must also be unable to feel shame. That’s why liberals continue to reelect the worst of their trash without any hesitation. Feagan, you liberals would clap for Hitler or Saddam if they said something against Pres. Bush. Heck, you’d even vote for them.
#34 And wasn’t Hoover at the FBI at the time?
#35 - Uh-oh. Godwin’s law alert…
#37 jimb, doesn’t apply. I was not comparing him to the Nazis. It was apparent to all that I was pointing out he would support anybody who didn’t support Pres. Bush. I could have used Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, etc for equal affect.
Besides that, nobody appointed Godwin to anything.
And certainly Godwin’s law doesn’t trump the lst Amendment.
26 - “stunned and totally embarrassed”? I’m not as confident as you. GWB would probably be booed down by the libs and trashed in the media.
See #35 above, Big45Iron really gets it.
#38 - sorry - forgot to specify that my tongue was planted firmly in the ol’ cheek there…
No jimb, my bad. I should have known better, lol.
Dog and pony show!
Nothing more…nothing less!
DJ, I have never seen a dog and pony show, so wouldn’t know what to look for…
Just turn on FOX news ,CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC….they air Dog and Pony shows all day, 365 days a year!
Its non stop action!!
You never know who the winner is but rest assured the loser is always the American citizen!
I’m not sure I’m following… King was a VERY outspoken, anti-war advocate. I could link to hundreds of interviews and columns with her making direct criticisms of Bush and his handling of the Iraq war. So how is it wrong for her friends to discuss the things she spent her life persuing?
Put it this way — if a soldier or marine dies in Iraq, would it be wrong for their eulogy to include the fact that they supported the mission? Of course not. So how is it different if the person has the opposite view? Is it simply because Bush was actually THERE? If so, wouldn’t it be worse to ignore the things King stood for?
#45
A funeral honoring a person (I don’t care who it is) is not the place for a political rally. Period. It was distasteful, but I’m glad it happened in a way. It showed the American people just who these libs are and what they think is important. The tragedy is the “sheeple” following the Demoncrat party.
#46
The tragedy is the sheep that still think they have a voice with either one of the two parties!
The cons are just as destructive to America as the libs!
Its all an orchestrated dog and pony show to make us think we have representation!
Bravo..
The only reason Clinton showed up was all the hot black chics running around. Anyone want to bet on how many he bagged? Probably went thru at least one box of cigars.

Heh, heh!
It seems the King family has a habit of political eulogies:
http://www.africanamericans.com/MLKjrEulogy.htm
My, my another political King linked eulogy:
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/religionandethics/week920/tribute.html
Pass me the smelling salts, I do belive I am coming down with the vapors.
Democrats showed the world of their true selves, no “class.”
Let us be careful not to fall into the same disgrace by defining the partisan, self-serving actions of the liberals at these events as a “Wellstone Memorial”, This takes the same event and turns it equally into a use that it is not intended. Politicizing Memorials, before, during or after should be avoided.
It is certainly expedient to use a simplified term, and memorable, to use such a term, but Wellstone wasn’t involved, he couldn’t get up an leave. (Unlike Monica.)
What? No comments on Mr. King’s acceptance of PP’s Snager Award?
