Houston Mayor’s Red Light Revenue Scheme Is Less About Safety And More About Extracting Loot From Citizens

The Mayor’s Red Light revenue scheme is ALL about extracting Loot from citizens!

Last year, it was disclosed that the City steadfastly refuses to share the Violator information with the automobile insurance companies. The City will not try to reduce Red Light violations by extending the “yellow” caution lights.

In my view, the City demonstrates it strictly wants as much revenue as possible, and is not acting to significantly reduce safety violations.

By the way, will the City of Houston and METRO use taxpayer money to pay the fines to the vendor, as METRO bus drivers and Houston employees in City-owned vehicles are some of the worst red light runners?

Will this enormous windfall revenue exceed the recent City Charter Revenue Cap, and trigger an ad valorem tax reduction for over burdened residential property owners?

Dennis Prager, one of those eeevil “neocons”, has a good piece over at frontpagemag today on the insane cartoon riots:

In 1945, the anti-Nazi German pastor Martin Niemoller wrote the following:

“First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.”

This famous statement can be updated for Europeans:

First they came for Israel, and we didn’t speak up because we weren’t Jews. Then they came for Lebanon’s Christians, and we didn’t speak up because we weren’t Maronites. Then they came for America, and we didn’t speak up because we weren’t Americans. Then they came for Sudan’s blacks, and we didn’t speak up because we weren’t Sudanese blacks. Then they came for us, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for us.

This is the point I was trying to make in the weekend comments about the dangers of appeasement.

Iran’s Supreme “Moolah” compares the death of 6 million Jews to the publishing of a cartoon:

ran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said the West’s publication of the Prophet Muhammad cartoons was an Israeli conspiracy motivated by anger over the victory of the militant Hamas group in the Palestinian elections last month. “The West condemns any denial of the Jewish holocaust, but it permits the insult of Islamic sanctities,” Khamenei said.

Thousands of Muslims incited to riot by their Imams, yet still nary a peep from those same Imams concerning beheadings of westerners. This is exactly the point that Kamal Nawash of the Free Muslim Coalition was trying to make last night on Fox. Unless Muslims learn how dangerously foolish this makes them look in the eyes of the western world, they will escalate this type of behavior until there is no choice left but to destroy them.

And a prominent Iranian newspaper said it was going to hold a competition for cartoons on the Holocaust in reaction to European newspapers publishing the prophet drawings.

Sally Loudmouth also posted an article about this yesterday on her blog. It’s unclear to me whether or not Iran and its newspapers understands the consequences of such a twisted game of one-upmanship…

  14. The Dude on February 7th, 2006 at 8:33 am

CNN’s leftist bias is so obvious they shouldn’t be taken seriously as a news source by anyone. They are apparently willing to roll over and play dead for Islam the same way as nearly all of Europe. What a disgusting bunch of milquetoasts. The thing that kills me is that these idiots appease radical Islam, and then express outrage at the US and Great Britain for taking action without having the UN’s blessing. If we waited for that, we’d likely be either dead or learning to speak Arabic and facing the east while we pray. If Muslims can’t handle being ridiculed, then they should stop being so worthy of it. Like Winston Churchill said, appeasers are those who feed the crocodile hoping it will eat them last.

  15. The Dude on February 7th, 2006 at 8:37 am

Which the few reasonable Muslims that do exist in the world understand all too well. I think I would feel much the same way if all of Christianity was represented by the likes of Pat Robertson. With idiots at the helm, the ship finds itself on a steady course of destruction.

History lesson: Abram, later known as Abraham had a wife, Sarah, who was barren. Sarah obtained a concubine (whore to some) for Abraham named Hagar who gave him a son, Ismael (later knowm as Mohammed). In her 80’s, Sarah had a vision from G-d, afterwards she gave Abraham a son, Isaac (whom G-d ordered Abraham to kill as a test of his faith). Abraham turned out (spurned in some translations) Hagar and her ‘bastard’ son Ismael. The rest is ‘history’. . . . This bastard son of a spurned concubine is the leader these ‘cultists’ follow today. . . . bound to be a good cartoon there somewhere. . . . .

I really think we are living in a Bizzaro world.

Ted Kennedy is ranting and raving about the rule of law and womens rights.

Jimmy Carter is bashing GWB on terrorism and the economy.

Mehico is telling us not to try and stop their poor from coming here but last week they arrested Iraqis trying to cross their border.

Bill Clinton is wanting to give the Palestinians more money.

GWB is going to the UN for help with Iran.

The French are posturing for war over Iran.

Israel wants to give more land to the Palistinians.

China wants to censor Google and Google says OK but they wont give the US gov info on terrorists communicating here in the US.

John F Kerry wants GWB to confront Iran and N.Korea rather than try to get other countries to help.

Hillary Clinton chides GWB on N.Korea getting nukes and GWB plays golf with her husband.

GB 41 gets reamed by Clinton in that election and now they play cards together.

Jaime Gorelick sat on the 9-11 panel.

Able Danger investigation has been silenced.

Tom Tancredo has been silenced by the media and Republicans.

Am I in the twilight zone?

Bali, Spain, London, France in flames, 9-11, Iran developing nukes, kidnappings and beheadings all over, cartoon riots, and the West is afraid of offending them?

I have, as have you all, read the laundry list of ridiculous “reasons” why some Muslim groups riot, or attack anyone or any group that is not Muslim. They are indeed making themselves a laughing stock. I mean, really, how much one can respect a group that is so upset over a cartoon. What makes them so insulated from ridicule? Their reasoning usually follow the path that we’ve heard over the years explaining UFO phenomena. I expect to hear soon that the riots are caused by “swamp gas”, or “weather balloons”.

  32. cameraguy on February 7th, 2006 at 9:29 am

Darn it! I messed up. It wasn’t the crucifix in the urine story. It was the elephant dung on the Virgin Mary painting.

Well, the point is still the same. Now, it’s just two examples to consider. They still showed both of those images prominently. The crucifix in the urine story is accurate, but it was not september 1999. The elephant dung on Virgin Mary was september 1999.

But still, they choose not to show the mohomid drawings… but have no problem showing the crucifix in urine, or the elephant dung on Virgin Mary painting….

Of course they have no problem with it. When was the last time a mob of angry Christians murdered someone over something like that? I really don’t believe this has anything to do with respecting Muslims. I really believe it has to do with fear.

Bombings and killings by Chechin muslims in Russia, bombings in Spain and England, riots in France, Embassies burned, travel warnings issued, flags burned…

And, according to Liberal Democrats, it’s all George Bush’s fault because he invaded Iraq. Thye’ve also faulted him for misusing the “leverage” bought by Bill Clinton in the Palestinian elections, and evil American Corporations for making all those muslims hate us…..

Could be, they are just wrong about these people and they are really as crazy and dangerous as we’ve been telling folks all along. That they pose a serious threat to the rest of the world and the best place to fight them is in thier back yard and not our own.

  37. fasternu426 on February 7th, 2006 at 10:12 am

#36 - Check out California, sarge. Here’s what they’re teaching kids in public freakin’ schools!

If your child is unfortunate enough to study in California, he or she will be taught Islam is a fountain of modernity, liberty, and feminism. More importantly, he will be taught every aspect of the Islamic faith is historically accurate.

  40. sargevining on February 7th, 2006 at 10:24 am

    Here’s the thing guys:

What “Islam” has learend from the American Left, and thier willling accomplices in the DLWM is that no matter what they do, no matter how many bombs they throw, no matter how many babies they kill, no matter how many cities burn in riots, the American Left will use that as a hammer to beat the hell out of Geroge Bush…giving the rioters, baby killers (not the American Soldiers the Left has labeled as “Baby Killers,” the ones wh are really killing babies) a pass in the process.

Just like in thier social philosophy, thier foreign policy is one wher nobody takes any personal responsibility. It’s always the fault of some nebulous entity like “Corporate Interests” or ineptitude and/or outright dissembling by thier poltical enemies.

But until now, it’s not that these people have beleifs that cause them to burn and kill in the name of their religion…it’s because we didn’t give them enough money, or we didn’t treat the different terrorists groups as a “nation” and “engage” them, or we needed to prevent “American Corporate interests” from doing thier evil deeds.

I hope that the scales lift from thier eyes soon..this is going to get very, very ugly and probably very, very soon. I’d like to have them on the bandwagon when it comes time to clean up the mess they have helped to make.

  41. The Dude on February 7th, 2006 at 10:35 am

Chief Minister Akram Durrani of Pakistan:

“Islam is a religion of peace. It insists that all other religions and faiths should be respected,” he told the crowd. “Nobody has the right to insult Islam and hurt the feelings of Muslims.”

He says while inciting Muslims. How does he reconcile a statement like that in his own mind? Interesting clash of cultures, isn’t it? In theirs, nobody has the right to insult Islam… in ours, everybody has the right to insult Christianity and/or Judaism.

I’ve heard people say that they think Christians and Jews need to be more vocal about defending their religions. I only partially agree with that. Does being “more vocal” include calling for the heads of those who insult you?

I feel lucky to live in a country where we’re free to criticize. As far as “artists” depicting the crucifix in elephant dung or urine or whatever, I guess I’m even glad they have the freedom to do that. I’m even more glad I have the freedom to disagree with it and choose to not react in radically violent fashion like many Muslims are now doing.

What bugs me the most about so-called “art” of that variety, is that NEA grants fund it. There, my friends, is the double standard. The ACLU will squeal like crazy about separation of church and state, but have no qualms about governmentallly funding anti-Christian sentiment.

It sort of comes back to the “anti” description of the modern left. It’s why Democrats fail. They embrace the “anti” crowd again and again rather than presenting any substantive alternative. It’s been said many times here by others, but the antics of the left are the best advertising for Republicans that money can’t buy.

  42. sargevining on February 7th, 2006 at 10:44 am

    Golly…

No smart ass comments from the Left Winger’s in the crowd?

  43. The Dude on February 7th, 2006 at 10:45 am

Contrast Chief Minister Akram Durrani’s words with these:

    Mustafa Akyol
As a Muslim myself, I understand the disgust of Muslims around the globe at the Euro-cartoons ridiculing the Prophet Muhammad. A deep respect for God, His revelations, and His prophets is a hallmark of the Islamic faith. In the Muslim culture there are no jokes about God; we take Him and His religion quite seriously. And we abhor those who ridicule them.

However, this sensitivity does not justify the violent, uncivilized rampage that we are now seeing across the Islamic world. They threaten and hurt innocent non-Muslims and do more harm to Islam than any cartoon could do.

Moreover, their reaction is not what the Koran tells Muslims to do in the face of mockery. Early Muslims were ridiculed very often by pagans, and the Koran suggested a civilized disapproval: “When you hear Allah’s verses being rejected and mocked at by people, you must not sit with them till they start talking of other things.” (4/140) And although the current cartoon-avengers are filled with fury, the Koran defines Muslims as “those who control their rage and pardon other people, [because] Allah loves the good-doers.” (3/134)

    Here’s the whole thing:

I understand that there are a few sincere people of faith still remaining on the left. So you guys (and I know you’re out there) please understand that I’m not talking about you. But this pathological disdain for anything Christian IS the religion of the Left, and they’re as crazed about their “religion” as the rampaging muslims are about theirs. How else can you explain feminists, homosexuals, communists, etc. being so vocal in supporting a group of people that, if they were in power, WOULD EXECUTE EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM! It’s insane! And very scary.

  48. Big45Iron on February 7th, 2006 at 11:57 am

Hamous #45, sorry, but I don’t understand how anyone of sincere faith can be on the left. Sincere faith loves the sinner, but does not condone or justify the sin. To be on the left, you must first rid yourself of common sense and dispense with the use of logic. Only then can somebody on the left justify their thought processes(I can’t call it thinking). Unfortunately, I think it will take a long time for conservative media to spread the word sufficiently to the extent that the DLWM is truly irrelevant and no longer infects a large number of people.

The only faster methods I see is when a sufficient number of liberals perish at the hands of Islamic madmen to cause them to “rethink” their idiotic stances on common sense issues.

About 250 protesters armed with assault rifles and grenades attacked the NATO base in the northwestern town of Maymana, burning an armored vehicle, a U.N. car and guard posts, said a Maymana Hospital doctor.

If I’d reacted like that anytime someone offended me, I would be either dead or imprisoned. Do you believe that anytime someone pokes fun at Islam, a violent response is justified? Don’t you think the violent Islamic response only goes to prove the point the cartoons were making to begin with?

Democrats not only gave freedom for women to go out and compete freely with men in the market place ,even went further and made unlawful against discrimation based on gender.

I’m not sure what world you came from but someone has seriously distorted your view of conservatives in America. But you keep thinking that way. With views like that there’s no chance of the left ever coming back!

Rahman - I would submit that the Left today is not the same as the “Liberals” that helped to gain women suffrage. Today’s Left is composed, as The Dude points out, of those who are ‘anti-everything’ (ezcept, of course, abortion on demand, more taxes, and gay marriage).

Anthony, on the other hand, was pro-temperance, anti-slavery, and, of course, pro-suffrage. She was a feminist in the sense that she advocated true legal equality for women. Many of today’s radical feminists could take a lesson from her. I certainly will take her brand of ‘liberalism’ over today’s variety any time.

  66. mizsak on February 7th, 2006 at 12:59 pm

If the Muslims are so incensed about some cartoon depictions because of their belief against idolatry, then what exactly are their views about Christians, who worship Christ? Is that not a form of idolatry, which is expressly against their religion? Isn’t that why we are all “infidels” in their eyes? What exactly are the chances of them collectively coming to their senses? Not much. I hate to say this, but you just cannot reason with people who have a tribal mentality and haven’t progressed much intellectually since the 7th or 8th Century.

  72. The Dude on February 7th, 2006 at 1:15 pm

    #55 Rahman,

Their spiritual, political and social behavior is derived from the tennents of their faith.
The destruction of property is deplorable but their anger not.

While I can understand the anger, I can’t understand the violent behavior that results from the anger. Therefore, their anger becomes indistinguishable from the violence in the eyes of the rest of the world. When Muslims learn to control this, they may gain some respect from western culture. Until then, they will continue to be the objects of ridicule they’ve become.

  73. jimb on February 7th, 2006 at 1:16 pm

#67 and 69 - I hate to say it, but my statements are in line with Hamous’ views. Today’s liberals aren’t freeing anybody, are not empowering anybody, or making any progress whatsoever. They only seek to regain power and counter Repulicans/conservatives at every turn without offering alternatives, as far as I can see.

#69 - I fear you’re missing the point. NO cartoon, even on that is deliberatly humiiliating, is justification for violence, particularly on this level. Have there been reports of cities burning over this deliberately humiliating cartoon? I think not. In addition, the Christian religion is humiliated all the time, and you don’t see widespread calls for execution, random violence, etc.

  90. Big45Iron on February 7th, 2006 at 2:04 pm

Rahman #52, LOL, you sure don’t know your history. It was Republican Henry Burn of Tennessee who cast the deciding vote in the Tennessee legislature in 1920 that passed the 19th Amendment allowing women the right to vote. Democrats were the ones opposing the bill. After Burns cast his affirmative vote, he had to flee the building and hide while the anti-suffragists Dems tried to find him, to beat some sense into him. They never did catch him, and so that’s how the 19th amendment entered the Constitution.

That would be just as valid.

During George W. Bush’s first term in office, his administration included these minorities:

~Condaleeza Rice - National Security Council Advisor
~Colin Powell - Secretary of State
    ~Roderick R. Paige - Secretary of Education
~Alphonso Jackson - Secretary to Housing and Urban
    Development
~Claude Allen - Deputy Secretary of Health and Human
    Services
~Leo S. Mackey, Jr. - Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs
    ~Larry D. Thompson - Deputy Attorney General
~Steven A. Perry - Administrator of General Services
    Administration

And now, in his second term, the administration is still a diverse one. He didn’t hire these minorities for window dressing (look at Clinton’s administration). He hired them because they were qualified.

George W. Bush had more blacks in his first administration than any other president in the history of the U.S.

I did not say that Christianity is a form of idolatry. My view is that the Muslims do, and that’s one of the sources for their hatred of the West. If they are so up in arms over some stupid cartoons (and I don’t care if some apologists say it is inflammatory to them), then what are the chances that they will begin to have a resonable, civilized, dialogue with the USA and Europe? How does Iran’s cartoon competition depicting the holocast prove that they are civilized and can be reasoned with? I think all this will get a lot worse before people wake up to the reality that we are not going to change their minds about what they have been brainwashed to believe.
