Kathleen Parker makes an excellent comment on “FEAR MONGERING” while making a few good points in cartoon rioting:

    http://www.unionleader.com/article.aspx?headline=Kathleen+Parker%3a+The+end+of+civilization+begins+with+a+joke&articleId=9ae8beda-9aa3-40c0-a8c4-bdd70c09135a

Whether Islamophobia inspired any of these images is a question for documentarians to explore. Meanwhile, fear for our future is an appropriate response to mass insanity. But potentially more dangerous than short-fused fanatics is our own cowardice in declining to treat this madness as anything but inexcusably barbaric.

To me, “inexcusably barbaric” should refer to the entire effort of the Islamo Fascists to convert the population of the planet to Islam or kill them, and not just a response to these cartoons.

Too many people fail to realize the full import of what they are trying to do, and Democrats in this country continue to foster that failure of realization for thier own short term political puposes.

Diana West has a warning for us all.
“This is the lesson of Cartoon Rage 2006, a cultural nuke set off by an Islamic chain reaction to those 12 cartoons of Muhammad appearing in a Danish newspaper. We have watched the Muslim meltdown with shocked attention, but there is little recognition that its poisonous fallout is fear.
… We dress up our capitulation in fancy talk of “tolerance,” “responsibility” and “sensitivity.” We even congratulate ourselves for having the “editorial judgment” to make “pluralism” possible. “Readers were well served… without publishing the cartoons,” said a Wall Street Journal spokesman. “CNN has chosen to not show the cartoons in respect for Islam,” reported the cable network. On behalf of the BBC, which did show some of the cartoons on the air, a news editor subsequently apologized, adding: “We’ve taken a decision not to go further… in order not to gratuitously offend the significant number” of Muslim viewers worldwide. Left unmentioned is the understanding (editorial judgement?) that “gratuitous offense” leads to gratuitous violence. Hence, fear - not the inspiration of tolerance but of capitulation”…

To all the graduates of the Joseph Goebbels School of Journalism. The alphabet channels abc\cbs\cnn\nbc\msnbc\&Fox and all the newspaper rags, NYT\LAT\HoustonBarnicle\etc who said you wouldn’t print the Mohammad cartoons because of:

    1)Respect for Muslims
    2)Sensitivity to Muslims
3)It is Forbidden to print likeness of Mohammad
4)And all the other excuses you used.

You did not give the real reason as you lied once again.

The real statement from the Propaganda Pimps should have read:

We were scared to death to print the cartoons because we are so afraid the IslamoFacists will Kick our Asses too……

So, I tell you there are a great many God-fearing, dedicated, noble men and women in public life, present company included. And yes, we need your help to keep us ever mindful of the ideas and the principles that brought us into the public arena in the first place. The basis of those ideals and principles is a commitment to freedom and personal liberty that, itself, is grounded in the much deeper realization that freedom prospers only where the blessings of God are avidly sought and humbly accepted.

The American experiment in democracy rests on this insight. Its discovery was the great triumph of our Founding Fathers, voiced by William Penn when he said, “If we will not be governed by God, we must be governed by tyrants.”

Explaining the inalienable rights of men, Jefferson said, “The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time.”

And it was George Washington who said that “of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.”

And finally, that shrewdest of all observers of American democracy, Alexis de Tocqueville, put it eloquently after he had gone on a search for the secret of America’s greatness and genius — and he said, “Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits aflame with righteousness did I understand the greatness and the genius of America. America is good. And if America ever ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.”

The rest of Ronald Reagan’s “Evil Empire” speech can be found here:

    It’s a real gem. Happy Birthday(2/06)Mr. President.

Interesting but not surprising to me coming from the media south of the border. It is the Dinosaurus Rexus media in the USA that holds themselves up as the beacon of Freedom of Speech and expression.

I bet the movie critics on the Dinosaurus Rexus TV news channels will have no problem praising The Da Vinci Code when it comes out.

    I can hear it now:
    Masterpiece…..Stunning
    Brilliant….
    Thought provoking….

Uh,pardon me Mr Dinosaurus Rexus Media Movie Critic. Can you tell me one more time, why didn’t your employer print those Mohammad cartoons?

I’m so sick of Liberals putting it all on us to pay for the irresponsible people.

    Here’s another example:

    http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3651775.html

How anyone can argue that requiring people to comply with the law by getting auto insurance is a problem is beyond me. If you can’t afford insurance, don’t drive! If you need to get somewhere, find the money for the insurance. What kills me is these people who claim they can’t afford it (other than the elderly) are probably pissed off that they won’t be able to drive to the store for their booze and cigarettes.

You wonder why I shake my head.

    Damn Liberals.

  18. gregg aka"T-Bone" on February 11th, 2006 at 1:45 pm

If the law states you must have insurance then you need to have visual proof on your vehicle.Maybe something like your inspection sticker that can be easily spotted by the cops. The problem is, people can go out and start a policy to get the car then not make any payments.

Or how about a general plan only covering damage to another vehicle for the poor and elderly on fixed income. They can contribute a portion and the rest of the revenue can come from money that is generated by a tax on money sent to Mehico and other foreign countries. That should be billions.

As long as we are on the subject. I think its time to start making Mehico pay for any illegal Mehican citizen in this country who needs healtcare,is in our criminal justice system or anything else that requires US citizens to pay for. Mehico I am sure has some assets that can be tapped. When a Mexican national commits a crime in the US, Mehico should have to pay any damages too. If they want to send their poor here thats fine. Start paying for them.

Kinda quiet today. I just got back from Galveston. Man it was cold and windy. The bay was a little browner than usual but not much. He,He.

I have been reading some articles on the crazy muzlums and the Iran making Israel disappearing thingy. Me thinks these nuts are gearing up for a global nuke fest and they dont give a rats ass if they get one too because they are going to muzlum disneyworld to see allah mouse.

We better get ready. I dont see any sign our government is getting ready. All I see is panels and commities on how to impeach Republicans.

When these crazy muzlums all go after Israel we better be ready. I dont think Israel can take on the whole region at one time. It will come from all sides.

The only way I see to stop this is to go ahead and take out Tehran and Damascus now. With those two as the example I dont think the other boys will want to play with their toys anymore when they see that action.

The hell with rebuilding too. Just set up a crap load of wells and pump til its dry.

  22. shannon on February 11th, 2006 at 2:44 pm

Yep. After 9/11 all they did was rearrange the deck chairs and call it the office of Homeland Security. The amount of money that’s been handed out to the states that has been spent on non-security stuff is a crime.
I think Israel will strike first, as they have in the past. Who knows what will happen after that.
I have said it before—GW’s legacy will not be a good one. He will be remembered as the president that let the borders (and ports) remain a sieve.
It didn’t take very many goons to pull of 9/11.
Act II will not be pretty.

#23, Mountainman, I’ve shot everything from reloads (mine and those bought at gun shows) to factory new and mil surplus in my old Mark IV Series 70.

I have shot Barnes solids in my old 30-06 and never worried about it. The worries I have about solid copper loads are, #1 cost, # 2 Barrel problems, #3 bullet weight.

At 230 grains, the factory load will take out a bad guy with one good hit. If it takes you 2 or 3 Ok. Practice…Practice…Practice. I load my house gun clips with 180 grain Silver tip hollow points. They are probably almost as expensive as the copper ones, but will not shoot through reasonable walls or mooselems. Now, if you are thinking car doors or through your front door, go with the solids.

Buy more clips for your slabside and put the “good stuff” in a couple, and load up the cheap stuff in the rest. Cheap ammo will make you shoot more often.
Even if you only shoot every other month or so, you will get really good.

I can’t see a copper load heavier than 180 grains or so. Correct me if I am wrong. 180 grains in .45ACP IS MIN.

Is this your only defense arm? If you have other defenses the equation changes. Just currious.

When it comes to Home Defense, I’m a traditionalist:

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f1/M1897shotgun.jpg

The old solutions are the best ones, although I have added a mag lite and lazer to the front end for night time stuff.

The best thing about his puppy is that you can keep the trigger down and work the slide. Everytime that slide goes forward, another shot goes out…next best thing to full auto you can get.

In the house it’s loaded with #4 Buck and for coyotes (both the four and two legged variety) it’s loaded with Buck and Ball, which is one .69 caliber slug followed by six pieces of 00 Buck (approx .30 cal.)

I have bought some reproduction WW2 M1910 shot shell pouches that have on the ammo belt for my M1 Garand.

These are currently backed up with a cimarron .45 Peacemaker reproduction and a .45 ACP M1917 Smith and Wesson.

THe Little Colonel has at her disposal a .38 of around 1915 vintage, a short barreled .410 loaded with slugs, and an Enfiled M1917 in .30-06.

Later this year, we’ll be upgrading the handgaun arsenal with one of these:

    http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976375372.htm

I’ts a 7 inch barrel version of the venerable M1911 made in all Stainless Steel. I’ve owned 3 in the past (and before Ahnold made them famous in the Terminator). With the added weight in the front of the slide and a compensator, this is a sweet shooter that takes less time to get back on target and easier to make a second tap shot than the standard M1911, especially with semi-wadcutters. If I can find on, I’ll marry it to a Para Ordnance frame for the extra capacity.

And the first extr $16,000 I get, there will be a BAR in the mix, too,,

    bwahahahahahahahaha

    Funny story:

Was teaching the Little colonel how to shoot the Trench Sweeper. She was having some problems as here hands are small and I told here not to try it when I wasn’t around. I knew all that she needed was more practice, so when I went to work the next day I stopped by WalMart and picked up about 120 target loads. These were rela light loads and pretty damn cheap. I paid as much for those as I did the first 25 rounds of Buck I got when I brought the gun home.

Well, one of the things you don’t tell the Little Colonel is not to do something. While I was out buying cheap target loads, she was out in the back pasture shooting off damn near all the 00 buck I had bought for the damting. When I got home, she professed to have adeqate knowledge on the feeding and care of the M1897, but didn’t want to do anymore shooting that day because of the gash the trigger guard had put on her finger.

A few years ago, I was doing a Living History demonstration down at Presidio La Bahia in Goliad. Living History is nwhere you dress in uniforms and gear from a specific period in History and give public educational presentations about that period in character as someone who was living then. Thisn particular demonstration was on te Mexican Punitive Expedition of 1916.

The M97 had been issued to or purchased by cooks of the period to shoot game to add to the company mess (but without the “trench sweeper stuff), and a few of these had figured largely in the fight at Columbus New Mexico the night Pancho Villa raided the town. When he did, the only soldiers awake were the mess details getting breakfast ready.

Both me and a buddy of mine had brough an M97, and in order to demonstrate to the crowd the effectiveness of the weapon, and especially the “slam fire” technique, we each loaded up with 6 rounds of 12 ga blanks, and had a “race” to see which ine of us could empty thier weapon first.

We both planted the piece on our hips and at the command of “GO,” let ‘er rip…

12 ga blanks use a black powder charge because the noise is louder than ball powder when there’s nothing in front of it. Have two guys fire 6 rounds each of that stuff in 12 seconds (which is easy to do with blanks b/c there’s no recoil) and you get a LOT of smoke to go with a BUNCH of noise. anmd when you are in an enclosed parade ground situation like in the Presido there, it kind of hangs in the air right where it was made.

We turned and had to step out of this cloud of smoke in order to address the crowd. Every dam person in that crowd was as quite as a churchmouse and had jaws agape. I confidently announced:

“Everything on the parade ground is now dead.”

Best applause I ever got in 15 years of doing Living History…and that includes the flamethrower demonstrations at the Nimitz Museum.

I watched a little of the Senate hearings on Katrina last friday. I was struck at how well he was treated by the Victicrats, the same ones who were calling for his head just a few months ago. Then I realized what was going on: He was blaming higher-ups for his failure and now the Victicrats could use him to bash the Pres. It was a disgusting display of hypocrisy. Then this morning I saw some refreshing commentary by Bob Schieffer on “Face the Nation”. Somehow I doubt Gunga Dan would have been this candid.

What gets me about this whole Katrina mess is that everybody is focused on the gummints “response” to the disaster.

Nobody seems to be focused on how the gummint told NoLa that they whould be “prepared” for this disaster and were ignored by those truly responsible, and nobody is focusing one who little the problem would have been had that town been evacuated. Choclate Ray had just as much warning as did the Feds, and the gummint wouldn’t have needed to “respond” to the disaster by getting food and evacuation assets into a ruined city if he had done what he should have.

It’s a whole lot easier to get disaster relief to people sitting in a school auditorium 6 hours drive north or west of the duisaster site than it is to get into the middle of it.

But if we did it that way, we couldn’t blame Bush…..

Two reasons why I left New England a looooooong time ago:

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060212/ap_on_re_us/snowstorm;_ylt=AnjjlKVnteRIb9yKxnA.3uys0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA3ODdxdHBhBHNlYwM5NjQ-

    Weather like this:

Wind gusting to 40 mph blew the snow sideways and threatened coastal flooding in New England. And in a rare display, lightning lit up the falling snow before dawn in the New York metro area.

By late morning, 22.8 inches of snow had fallen in Central Park, the city’s second heaviest snowfall on record, surpassed only by the 26.4 inches that fell in December 1947.

    and idiots like this:

“I personally love the snow,” she said. “I like snow shoveling. If you shovel snow all winter you can paddle a kayak or canoe all summer.”

The whole Katrina mess could be stopped in its tracks if only a Republican would start talking about the failed welfare state and the Dems who ran it. Does anyone besides me know these poor blacks were that way before GWB took office? From the way this is portrayed these folks were working and driving Hummers until GWB took office stole all their money.

The Repubs get what they deserve if they dont point this out. Screw em all.

Crossing cards: U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, urged the Department of Homeland Security last week to speed implementation of the recently announced border-crossing cards for U.S. citizens. In a letter to DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff, Cornyn said, “Increased security at our borders must be combined with policies that facilitate legal travel.” Cornyn also reiterated his request for DHS to extend the laser visa period to six months for legal Mexican visitors, giving them full parity with Canadians, his office said.

Chertoff announced the creation of border-crossing cards last month as a less-expensive alternative to passports to provide secure identification for border crossers.

Teh compopund is in the Rosenberg ETJ. I can report that I support the program…no votes are necessary.

I do agree that seeing this policy as something that inordinated affects “the working” poor is a perfect example of Liberal Stupidity. Uninsured drivers have a negative effect on the economy and the environment as they usally display the same neglect twoards thier automobile that they do thier insurance. This will also have an effect on illegals, too. In RichRose, at least, it seems that most of the uninsured drivers are alos illegals driving vehicles that are hanging over the edge of decrepitude.

  94. jj on February 12th, 2006 at 5:17 pm

headshaker my question is if they start enforcing the law are the ins. co. gonna get rid of the uninsured motorist ins. I have to pay for even though everybody is supposed to be insured.

  95. hamous on February 12th, 2006 at 5:19 pm

#92 - But shakey, where’s your compassion? The uninsured aren’t criminals, they’re disenfranchised drivers ;-)

I’m not sure we’ll see it with our current city council but it would be nice. Hell, they won’t even let the police ask if you’re a legal citizen. My guess is uninsured drivers are a big reason insurance rates are so high. I don’t really understand how you can drive without insurance. You have to show proof twice a year and when you renew your license. I’ve been hit by uninsured drivers twice in the last two years. They’re probably still driving but I get a $150 ticket for not wearing a freakin seat belt.
