Obviously Congressional Democrats and angry Hollywood Leftists need to start attending these “hunting trips” with the Vice President.

  2. An Observer on February 12th, 2006 at 3:51 pm

News Flash: Bush Adminstration ‘bashed’ by Democratic liberals for failing to prevent the shooting!

And I wouldn’t leave out John Kerry. Remember the “bird hunting” pose during the campaign?

  4. Ree-C Murphey on February 12th, 2006 at 4:25 pm

Here are some more “jokes” (curtesy of National Review’s, The Corner:

    • Since wholesale Social Security reform failed, Cheney is taking a retail approach.

    • Afterwards, Cheney said two words: “tort reform.”

    • Clearly, this is further proof that the administration needs to work harder providing adequate body armor.

And, Three of the Top Ten Things He Said Afterwards:

    • “I thought it was Pat Leahy.”

    • “Let’s have no more talk about independent counsels.”

    • “Pull!…Oh, that was the last lawyer?”

In other words, weak heart or not, Don’t Mess With Cheney in Texas!

  5. neocon on February 12th, 2006 at 4:26 pm

    Ree-C

The Vice President of the United States, Dick Cheney, shot another man while on a hunting trip in South Texas.

Who was the “other” man that the VP shot? LOL!
Reading this you would think he may have shot several! :)

  6. Ree-C Murphey on February 12th, 2006 at 4:31 pm

The other man was an attorney (Harry Whittington)from Austin (hence all of the “lawyer jokes”).

Sorry my writing wasn’t clear enough.

  7. Smacktle on February 12th, 2006 at 4:35 pm

    Good to know:

Stay away from Cheney when he has a shotgun and
stay away from Ford when he’s playing golf.

  8. Golden Adam on February 12th, 2006 at 4:44 pm

#7 you forgot…stay away from Carter when there is a microphone or tv camera present.

  9. Golden Adam on February 12th, 2006 at 4:45 pm

    or Clinton/cigar…ahhh, nevermind.

  10. neocon on February 12th, 2006 at 4:53 pm

I wonder where he was hunting. Hopefully it wasn’t close to GWB’s Crawford ranch, or the libs will be screaming it was Bush’s fault.

  11. neocon on February 12th, 2006 at 5:02 pm

Sorry my comment wasn’t clear. Your headline said Cheney shot “another” man, like maybe Whittington wasn’t the first one he shot! :)

  14. Ree-C Murphey on February 12th, 2006 at 5:32 pm

    Neocon:

The accident was close enough for treatment to be in Corpus Christi, so thankfully, they can’t scream about it happening on Bush’s ranch (since Crawford is closer to Waco than Corpus).

Rest assured, the libs will find some way, even if tenuous, to blame GWB (they always do).

No problems on the comments……. ;)

I’m no doctor, well,I’ve had some gynecological training when I was younger, but,I would think its not a good idea for a man with a bad ticker to be firing a shotgun at anything. That sound and the recoil on the shoulder cant be a good thing for the ol electronic pumper.

  16. BSue on February 12th, 2006 at 6:11 pm

Sheesh - from the coverage, wall-to-wall on 13’s news, with the tantalizing promise to continue coverage throughout the night, and tomorrow - you’d expect Greta van Cistern to be flying in to Corpus Delecti to cover the mystery.

  17. Wil Barnes on February 12th, 2006 at 6:18 pm

#15 - You advocate shooting political opponents?

  18. m9777 on February 12th, 2006 at 6:21 pm

Another case of “bad intelligence” since Cheney was not properly informed of the whereabouts of this fellow hunter. Look folks, I’ve been “peppered” with bird-shot numerous times while hunting. It occurs fairly often and is rarely serious unless close ranges are involved. I’m just happy to hear the VP was feeling well enough to get out in the sun and wind and hoof around looking for quail.

  19. m9777 on February 12th, 2006 at 6:25 pm

#15…shotguns don’t recoil THAT much. Semi-autos and smaller gauges “push” more than they “punch.” I’ve had several heart surgeries and never been cautioned NOT to hunt. Now if you’ve just recently visited a “chest-cracker”, you need to use some common sense.

  20. gregg aka"T-Bone" on February 12th, 2006 at 6:43 pm

    #17,
Those arent opponents. They are arseholes. A little buckshot in the ass would do them good.

Check out the Drudge Report…Jim & Sarah Brady have opened their pie-holes. Now these are two radical, gun-control liberals who would happily shoot conservatives in-spite of their “anti-gun” stance. The liberal mantra continues…”whatever it takes.”

I simply asked him why he was in such a bad mood and to lighten up. And Squawk, sorry I inferred Wil had a rusty pipe up his….. Wont happen again, promise. Now lets all shake hands and play nice.

  46. Mike Smith on February 13th, 2006 at 6:48 am

I wonder if Cheney got his quail {along with his lawyer}?

Too bad there are no reporters covering this story…. One of them would have asked the question.

  47. Mountainman on February 13th, 2006 at 8:00 am

When I was a kid, the reason I quit hunting with my dad & his friends was one of them continually ‘peppered’ us while dove hunting. After some of the stories I have heard from hunting friends, I would only hunt with someone I know VERY, VERY well. The same reason I do not ride motorcycles in large groups.

  48. k-mac on February 13th, 2006 at 8:41 am

I actually hadn’t even heard about the shooting until this morning, when they brought it up on KHOU morning news. Debra Duncan asked the CBS White House correspondent about it at the end of his schtick, and his take was: “What everyone here in Washington wants to know is, why in the world did it take 24 hours for the news of the shooting to be released to the public?!?” The guy was very incensed that, not only was the news held back from the media for a full day after the incident occurred, but “No one in Washington even knew that the Vice President was on a hunting trip!” (And since I assume the White House knew exactly where Cheney was, the guy was obviously talking about the MEDIA not knowing.) Pretty funny!

  49. DanielJames on February 13th, 2006 at 8:49 am

Screw blaming the libs…I gotta tell ya I would be prety damn upset if anybody dumped a load of quail shot into my head an neck.

Yeah Yeah I heard its common…well its never happened on one of my hunting trips.

Say it like it is…somebody???….Cheney??? or the lawwwwwyer?? was careless. That is! End of story!

  50. LTC on February 13th, 2006 at 10:27 am

at least it was a real hunting trip…

recall poster boy for the Humane Society and PETA.. John Kerry’s staged hunting trip in Ohio for a photo op where the press cameras were the only thing that taking real shots at a two hour hunting trip.

  51. Big45Iron on February 13th, 2006 at 10:54 am

At least Cheney shot somebody else. Dems have been shooting themselves in the foot since 1980. This results in a severe wound to their butts since they have they foot in their mouth and their head…….

  52. DanielJames on February 13th, 2006 at 12:09 pm

You know what cracks me up??

If this had happened to a dem ya’ll would be laughing all day.

When it happens to your team its…duhh uhh

Me, I dont have a team…well maybe Team America with “TanK”redo!

Quite frankly its not funny on either side…it shows the “hunters” were careless/negligent!

  53. mecruz on February 13th, 2006 at 12:11 pm

I can’t wait for PETA to sue VP Cheney for trying to shoot quail and for the Libs to accuse Halliburton of putting a hit on this lawyer. Oh and don’t forget to also sue the manufacturer of the gun/shotgun that was being used by VP Cheney…….(too funny!)

  54. DanielJames on February 13th, 2006 at 12:15 pm

Oh and from the looks of things maybe Cheney should just start staging his hunting trips that way his buddies wont end up in the hospital??

When the day comes I put one of my hunting partners in the hospital I will stop hunting.

  55. marc on February 13th, 2006 at 12:28 pm

It is a good lesson for all of us. It is like range rules. You don’t retreive your target untill the firing line is clear. You don’t retreive your game unless everyone moves together.

Whittington is a Republican lawyer. He has fought for many conservatives and the Republican party over his 78 years and he is a close friend of Vice President Cheney. It is amazing to me that a guy that old is still able to hunt at all!

  59. Big45Iron on February 13th, 2006 at 4:26 pm

From what I’ve read about Whittington, he’d rather be shot by Cheney than kissed by a liberal.

  60. DanielJames on February 13th, 2006 at 4:37 pm

  62. Rahman on February 13th, 2006 at 5:58 pm

Two years ago , in Houston, there was an idiot celebrating 4th of July by shooting into the air which resulted his daughter being hurt by one of the discharged bullets.
It was an accident by all accounts, nevertheless, he was duly criminally processed.
Under Texas Law shooting someone by accident is also a crime.
    Hello? Anyone out there?
    Typical.

  63. Freeman on February 13th, 2006 at 6:52 pm

Will there be a lawsuit? Anyone want to speculate? I don’t think there will. I believe they’ll work out the details like gentlemen. It’ll be interesting to see how it turns out. I hope the two will take the high road.

  64. Bear Creek on February 13th, 2006 at 8:30 pm

But seriously, shills, if the Bush Cabal doesn’t like you, Dick Cheney can shoot you and not report it, and he won’t even need the license.

Pres. George became King George, and he’s not done yet.

    Rationalize all you want.

  65. Golden Adam on February 13th, 2006 at 9:04 pm

Ok, after reading all about it today, downloading the press conference, ect. The best I can tell is that Whittington stayed behind to find a bird he shot and then walked back to the group. Some stories talked about how he was being a “responsible” hunter for staying behind to find his kill. My question is this…At a respected hunting ranch, where the heck were the dogs? Every hunter knows that humans can’t find birds in the brush. Even if they watch them land, you can never find them. That’s where a dog’s nose comes in.

With a couple of dogs in the field, this would have never happened. I’m curious to find out if there were. Next year I’ll be sure to check the “donate $2″ box for the administration’s hunting dog fund.

  66. jimb on February 14th, 2006 at 9:19 am

#62 - You can’t compare a hunting accident to an idiot shooting his pistol up into the air on July 4th. The level of irresposibility for the latter is off the charts, and hunting accidents happen. Not that Cheney and/or Whittington didn’t make a mistake, but it wasn’t on the level of a guy injuring his daughter when he had no business discharging a firearm in the first place.

I think the more important question is: Would you be saying these same things if Algore had been the one mistakenly shooting someone on a hunting trip? And better yet, why the bitterness on your part? Do you hate Bush/Cheney that much?
