So now you can get fired for “Accidental” hate speech.

    Nice.

I don’t get it. The man was obviously immediately mortified over his tongue-slip. If it was intentional, then fine, fire him. In this case, give out a warning and get over it.

    Jimb, you’ve said it all.

They can call Ms. Condi Rice anything they want, slip of the tongue or not she is a lady.

You can be a female and not be a lady and this is not politically correct in todays media but it is a fact !

    Hypothetical example for 08:

Condi Rice [lady] Vs. The Hildabeast [a female]

As for the firing, I guess the lawyers on one side or another will prevail and we will wait to see the fate of Lenihan.

    Q. What about Belefonte, Farrakhan and Bond ? Why does the media give them a pass on their hate speech ? Anyone know ?

Station mgmt. has lost sight of Mr. C. Sense and is cowering to public opinion and political correctness.

After seeing this posted this am I called the radio rep who I know who works for this station in St. Louis. She said this man is one of the nicest folks you’d ever want to meet and never would intentionally say what came out of his mouth. He had only been at the astation for a short time and was being very careful to mind his P’s and Q’s!This is (IMHO) and others close to this situation a BUM RAP! Haven’t all of us at one time or another had a slip of the tongue before? Maybe not being heard by a few thousand folks all at once, but I’m sure most of us have. (Even the station manager)
Makes one wonder if the station got one call, a few calls or hundreds demanding the removal of Dave Lenihan. My friend did not know or hear the number.

    Geez!!! But Bryant Gumble says:

“So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. ****snip**** So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin.”

I for one never even heard of this term (I am 46) except to refer to racoons. Ditto, I also never knew that (what I always thought of as a children’s rhyme) “eeny meeny mynee moe” ended in anything other than, “catch a tiger by the toe,” until the Southwest Airlines lawsuit when some “offended” African-Americans filed a lawsuit saying that the young flight attendant who was trying to get the passengers seated acted in a discriminatory manner.

All these “offended” people need to get a life, and realize that some formerly derogatory phrases and terms have no meaning at all to most people who are unaware of the history of the terms, and that it is actually counterproductive to promote true understanding, when obviously in this case it was a pure slip of the tongue.

As the philosopher Rodney King once said, “can’t we all just get along?”

    :-)

    #6 Malcolm –
It’s interesting, and reassuring, to have a “almost first-hand” report that the talk show host actually is a nice guy and not an ill-intentioned jerk.
My earliest concern was that fact that the “slip” was repeated. But if you look at the transcript, it’s very easy to see that the repetition could very easily have occurred in, say, 1½ seconds. And the retraction was immediately following.
Yeah, I’ll go with the conclusion that being “politically correct” is the primary cause of the assassination of the show host.

(Does KSEV have a slot for another live host?…..)

    – Ken
