If Lampson becomes a clear leader, I WILL NOT be pleased. DeLay’s district is Republican. They will vote Republican, not Democrat! The Republicans voted for Delay overwhelming in the primary! Something the Dims didn’t think would happen. Sorry, Bobby, its like trying to run as a Republican in Sheila (Queen) Jackson-Lee’s district — ain’t gonna happen.
Me thinks there is a chance that the Democrats may come to regret this. Sometimes the Devil you know is better than the one that is soon to move in next door.
It’s wishful thinking on the Dems part to think a Republican District would vote for a Dem, especially one who couldn’t win his own district, then moved to another part of Texas to try to win a seat. Isn’t that called a “carpetbegger?” That’s sort of like Al Gore running for President again when he couldn’t win his own State.
Congradulations Tom on your great Primary win. Now take your political war-chest that you told people you were going to go to the election with and use it to bail your sorry butt out.
DeLay should have stepped aside 2 months ago so there would be a clear Republican leader going in to the general election.
Al nails it. He should have “taken one for the team” back then. If I lived in Delay’s district I’d be pretty pissed off. Even not living in his district I’m not too happy. Call me pessimistic, but I’m not so sure Vic isn’t right in #5. The really bad part is that the alternative is even worse, and that may be what we’re going to be stuck with due to poor Republican performance.
Seems to me, aside from the asinine “no fat left to cut” comment, Delay’s challengers in the primary were a lot less “republican” than Delay. Having waited until after the primary to do this he’s given the party an opportunity to put forth a real conservative. Not sure they’ll do that but I agree with Neocon, that district will not be represented by a Democrat come January 2007.
DeLay collected money to help the party - ignore-the-voter-bush, no-leadership-perrie, du-nothing-hurst, crownyn, hutchless and the rest deserve to be kicked out of office as they have done nothing to help their constituients - illegal aliens, appraisal caps, spending caps, sales tax deduction, spending cuts nor have they represented those who voted them into office. If bush faces impeachment in the house - so be it - why you asked because what has he done that shows he remember the voters (cut spending, reduce the deficit, secure the border) who voted for him. The only thing he remembered was his agenda (Iraq).
you know Ed said something very profound this morning. Where were the other Republicans from Texas and Houston when it came time to stand up and support the man who has been probably the second most powerful Texan in Congress ever. Not one person, John Culberson, and crew steped forward and said one thing in support of Delay. Well now that the experience and leadership of Delay is going away I’m sure that the silence that comes from the Republicans will become even more deafening. We need more people like Delay, Gingrich, Ted Poe who will call a spade a spade, and are not afraid of the cameras and are willing to be TRUE conservatives, who speak up and fight for what they know is right and believe in. The Conservative movement and to a greater extent, Republican party are far worse off today than they were before we all went to bed last night.
IMO Delay is a jerk. My mother and father in law
supported that man all the way, financially and with their valuable time. He just took a big crap
on them and all the others that supported him.
If there is any money left in his warchest, then
he should be forced to give it back to the people
who gave it to him.
Where do people get the idea that Tx-22 is a huge Repub district? I thought it was pretty well known that DeLay actually decreased the number of Repubs through his re-districting… as to give other districts more Repubs.
Or is it solely based on the fact that he got a majority of the vote in a Republican primary? And even then, 20 points less than any of his previous runs.
Methinks DeLay knows that Rudy and Scanlon are singing like birds, and his name is the “chorus”.
Feel free to leave a comment... and oh, if you want a pic to show with your comment, go get a gravatar!
Wow, do I really get the first shot?
Whether Nick Lampson or a Republican hand picked by his or her party wins the race now, I think we’re all the better for it.
With that aside, Lampson becomes the clear leader in this race. I, for one, am quite pleased.

I understand Cabernet Sauvignon goes great with crow. Then again does Night Train or MD 20-20.

The start of the downfall of the Republicans has begun. It’s going to be an interesting election year.

John Culberson sold out Tom!
Just like he sold out America!
