Press-release reporting, Austin-bureau style
by David Benzion · 04/25/2006 3:35 pmA security breach has compromised the personal information of students of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, according to a press release from the school.
The press release recounts a previous security breach:
A similar security breach took place in 2003. Former student Christopher Phillips was found guilty of accessing protected computers without authorization and possession of stolen Social Security numbers.
Interestingly, Janet Elliott’s reporting for the Chronicle’s Austin bureau also recounts the previous incident:
A similar security breach took place in 2003. Former student Christopher Phillips was found guilty of accessing protected computers without authorization and possession of stolen Social Security numbers.
That looks strikingly similar. Maybe the newspaper should have just posted the press release?

Look, we all know most modern journalists are just bitter Marxists who can’t cut it in the real world. True investigative reporting is a thing of the past. Nowadays it’s just a bunch of communist losers sitting around a newsroom bashing Republicans, surfing the net for quotes by Lenin, and avoiding getting a real job.
I will bet $1000 dollars that if you checked the apartments of the typical young journalist, you would find more hammer and sickle flags than American flags on the walls. Guaranteed.
Excellent!
Just for fun — if you have a blog, please consider putting up this EXACT post.
