Want to know why LST was down this morning? Our excellent web hosting company, Hosting Matters, was struck with a major denial-of-service attack, knocking several high-profile conservative blogs offline.
Michelle Malkin reports that the culprits have been traced to Saudi Arabia. The attack was targeted at Aaron’s CC blog, which dared to post controversial images about Islam.
My RSS reader was spattered with red text, indicating sites that are unavailable. Lists are available at my blog and at Michelle’s
It looks like most of the affected sites are back up and running now. The key exception is Aaron’s CC, which has been moved in an attempt to isolate the attack and keep it from affecting other Hosting Matters customers.
We stand in solidarity with our blogospheric brothers, and we’d like to address a statement to the cyberjihadis behind these attacks:

Well, I ran the anti-virus program and spy-ware program, thinking my PC was on the ‘blink’ and then thought I had been ‘excommunicated’ for unknown reasons.
On the bright side, I did get more work done than I typically would on a Friday morning.

Neocon: they don’t hack servers, they just keep asking it for pages a few thousand times a second. It’s the internet equivilent of your little brother poking you evey few seconds as you sit in the back seat of the car on a long trip.

Sheesh yesterday my DSL was down. Today cyberwaddies attacking LST’s server. I am resigning from this cyber blunderbust and returning to the good old days of reading “The Grit” newspaper, black and white radio, and using a rotary dial telephone. This is just too much for me to take.

#30 as far as I’m aware, she was not affected by the previous round or the round that apparently just ended (HM is attempting to discover what range of IP addresses the bots are pounding and re-routing them to a null port in their router and then giving the url’s that are being affected new IP’s) this may go on intermittently for some time. we will all have to sit back and hope that someone in the law enforcement community can find a way to stop it. I doubt it will be the Saudi’s. I’m not even sure they have a law aginst this, but even if they did, I doubt they would do much.
