Andrea’s sister Melanie Childers writes in an e-mail to ProLifeBlogs:
How am I doing? I am doing FABULOUS! My sister, Andrea, is GETTING WELL. Her white blood cell count has been down to normal for the FOURTH day in a ROW now, and she has been able to get off of the blood pressure raising drugs that she has had to be on for MONTHS. She is doing GREAT. Her new doctor … has also halved the amount of pain medications that she is taking, so that she can talk to her family. He says that her condition is "serious," but that she does have the ability to get much better.
The futility proceedings are stopped now. Because this new doctor took over her case, it is all stopped.
I’m so happy I don’t know what to think, or say, or do. Not only is my sister NOT going to be put to death by St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, but it also looks like she is RECOVERING from her heart surgery, finally.
John Hawkins over at Right Wing News however makes a good point, she may very well be recovering, and she might soon be out of the woods, but she is still in very serious condition, and the hospital is having another Ethics comittee meeting as I type. Anything could still happen. Let’s keep her in our thoughts and prayers shall we?
UPDATE
According to John Hawkins, there is some excellent news coming out of the Ethics Committee meeting:
Folks, we have excellent news out of the meeting this morning! According to Jerri Ward, a doctor by the name of Matthew Lenz, who disagrees with the medically futile designation, has taken over Andrea’s case and the hospital is cooperating with him. That means Andrea is no longer in danger of having her life support pulled by the hospital.
To everyone who called, put out the word, or did anything at all on this case, great job! You have undoubtedly helped save Andrea’s life. Score one for the good guys!
He’s right, we fought the good fight and won. Let us hope Andrea is able to do the same now.

A change only God could be responsible for. Keep the prayers in your heart as you go about your day
Good news. thanks
How, joy full!
Why is this even in the news, unless she took steps to prevent un useal means to keep her alive she has the right to life, period. Futhermore she is advancing medicine.
#4 It is in the news because St. Lukes tried to kill her by disconnecting her life support without her consent. She was awake and aware and had specifically told them not to disconnect her. Texas has an abomination of a law that allows a hospital to deliver an ultimatum: “Get out, or in 10 days we’ll unplug you. Oh, and by the way, since we have decided your fight for life is “futile”, nobody else is going to take you either.”
They apparently decided to give up on her before she was willing to give up on herself. THAT is why it is in the news.
This is soooooooo excellent!!!
I don’t know what else to say! (don’t faint everyone!)
There needs to be an investigation of how she came to be designated as “medically futile.” What process was used for designating her as medically futile? How can someone recover from that in less than 48 hours??!!! There appears to be, at a minimum a issue of competence to practice medicine, by whoever designated her as medically futile. But, how did the ethics committee come to back that designation also? If someone can be medically futile than recover from that in less than 48 hours, how many people is St. Luke’s unnecessarily killing each year?! There is something extremely rotten going on behind the scenese here.
That is the POWER of PRAYER!
#8, That is the power of a whole bunch of people busting their humps to make it happen. Every single person that called, wrote, e-mailed and otherwise spread the word had a piece of this victory, and make no mistake this is a victory. Andrea I have learned must have Gall Bladder surgery, possibly as soon as tomorrow, Her battles are far from being over, but at least now, she has a chance at fighting those battles.

That too..
