This just in: at least one Republican was willing to cross the line and make a last minute stand against the governor’s new tax bill.
Senators this afternoon failed to get the votes they needed to bring up House Bill 3, the business tax overhaul that appears to be on the fast track to the governor’s desk.
Senate rules require support from twothirds of the senators (21 members) to bring up a bill. Today, a measure to bring up House Bill 3 for final passage received only 20 when Sen. Mike Jackson, R-LaPorte, raised two fingers, signaling his "no" vote.
Jackson had voted to bring the bill up on Monday, when it passed.
As the Austin-American Statesman reporter notes, this "setback" — or reprieve, depending on your point of view — may only be temporary. While there is no word yet as to why Mr. Jackson changed his mind, you can bet Perry and Dewhurts will be applying the pressure. Jackson apparently received a summons to the principal’s office immediately following the vote:
After the vote, Jackson spoke with several colleagues before walking toward Perry’s office with a Perry aide. He declined comment.

Hark….is that the sound of hope?
Of course, that last quote should probably read:
I can’t imagine the tongue-lashing that poor man is getting right about now…
Maybe he was aware of gov hair sprays political future asperations going up in smoke when he voted NO! NAAAH gov good hair oviously has no political future
Somebody should have rushed him off the capital grounds into the Conservative Relocation Program. You know where Ross Perot has been hiding since the mid-90’s.
I called Tommy Williams and was very nice in saying
that he should vote “NO”
You can watch them here:

Are there any people left who question whether our esteemed governor (the Rick Perry one) is a RINO?
And I’m supposed to vote for him in November??!!!!

I called Sen Whitmire and he is holding strong to a no vote.
Sen Lindsay’s office is apparantly shut down, like the crooked judge.
thank god we got rid of him
The bill has passed as the rose blocker bill was waived and the bill passed by 18 to 13. Staples wimped out and voted to allow the blocker bill to go by the way side then gutlessly voted against the bill having voted for the bill originally.

Bill passed easily
I will be sitting out the next election on these guys.
I am unrepresented…..again. I am sure there is something about this bill that is unconstitutional. All their previous attempts have been. We can only hope.
So he wimped out and finally voted for it anyway. I always like to vote “for” someone or something, but I certainly do not see any future in contining to vote for Republicans when they prove themselves to be just as bad a bunch of weasels as their predecessors. I’m for sweeping them all out and starting over from scratch.
