Hollywood Power Play
by The Panda Man · 05/02/2006 3:56 pmActor and director Tim Robbins, hater of all things Bush, is producing a play based on George Orwell’s 1984. While in Greece to promote the Athens debut of his work, Robbins took the opportunity to bemoan the current occupant of the White House.
"We have right now a media that is willfully ignoring the high crimes and misdemeanours of the president of the United States," the star of Hollywood hits including "Mystic River" and "The Player" told reporters.
"Clinton lied about a b***j**, and got impeached by the media and Congress," Robbins said. "(Bush) got us into (the Iraq) war based on lies that he knew were lies. … His war has recruited more Al-Qaeda members than Osama bin Laden could ever have dreamed for … yet no one in the media is calling for impeachment," he said.
One might conclude that Mr. Robbins finds U.S. media coverage of the President too soft-pedaled for his tastes. He goes on to compare President Bush’s tenure as America’s Chief Executive to Orwell’s grim vision of a totalitarian society.
Robbins pointed out similarities between current US policies on terrorism and the authoritarian society described by Orwell. "Unfortunately, the book and the play is [sic] more relevant now than it ever has been," he said. "(It) talks about continuous warfare as a means to control the Western economy, and as a way to control rebel elements within society through the use of fear, constant fear. In my country we seem to be sanctioning renditioning of innocent people without trial … put them in jail without telling anyone … and torture them out of suspicion of what we think they might do," Robbins said.
"This is exactly what Orwell was talking about when he spoke of thought crimes," he added.
Mr. Robbins appears to occupy that Michael Moore Neverland where the Twin Towers still stand and conservatives commit offense by merely existing. In the real world, however, terrorists have killed thousands of Americans, equality under the law has been turned on its head by politically correct “hate crime” laws that really do punish thoughts, and the supposedly evil Patriot Act was reauthorized by both parties in Congress.
The question seems to be whether Mr. Robbins’ bleating espouses actual belief on his part, possible mental instability, or simply an effort to endear himself to fellow rabid Leftists in the entertainment business. His vitriolic style certainly does not lend itself to the winning of converts to his point of view. For those not yet convinced, Robbins hopes to produce a film version of his play in the fall.

Even trolls have leaders - he’s a waste of time.
Thank God (and our Founding Fathers) for free speech. The freaks on the Right balance out the freaks on the Left; good thing most Americans ignore both and reside somewhere in the (sane) middle.
It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to know this fella is a moronic idiot. I think he deserves the Dixie Chicks treatment!
It sounds like Robbins is another product of the socialist / communist academia where he was indoctrinated by activist anti-American so-called professors. He was an outstanding student, his credentials were anti-Americanism,ultra-liberalism and an extreme leftist and most likely a Democrat !
Q. Has the worldly Robbins ever been out of a classroom setting,a library or a studio before his surrender to Hollywood and their treasonous ideals ? Robbins has disdain for the U.S. but he does not refuse the mega bucks $$$$ that he pulls in !
My God, what a capitalist oinker, he should be distributing his wealth among the poor.
Q. Does anyone know what branch of the U.S. military Robbins served in? HMmmmm….you already know the answer ! A short stint in the Girl Scouts !
What a patriot,he bad mouths his country, while in a foreign country, while we are at war.
Something like Al-Saudi-Gore or Jimmy-the nut- Carter !
All you can do is ignore him and never spend any money on anything that will make him even richer !
The Hypocrites like Robbins are worthless and fake because if they really cared about the poor in the world they would be giving away 75% of all they make to them and they would still live extreamly well.
Robbins probably doesn’t have a 10th grade eduucation, yet he is an expert on foreign policy? Ha! Look at the educations these Hollywierd Personalties have. Most haven’t even graduated from high school.
#6) Good thing (for some) that intelligence or good grades doesn’t determine who should be president.
Let’s not forget that Mr. Reagan was an actor (and a member of the Hollywood “left” once upon a time) with no foreign policy experience when he became the 40th President of the US.
Don’t you know dinner with him and his looney wife Sarandon would be a pleasant experience. Ugh.
Tim and Susan have to quit acting intelligent. Being and acting intelligent are two completely different things. They need to do some research into being intelligent before acting that way in public. This is another example of how actors use their celebrity status as a forum for telling people they know whats bettor for you. They need to go back to acting and leave intelligent speaking to everyone else.
#7;
What were slick willie’s qualifications?
A man’s worth is not determined by the quality of or his education.
The only recent president that was well versed in foreign policy was Eisenhower.
Where’s McCarthy when we need him?

#10) “A man’s worth is not determined by the quality of his education”, on that we can agree.
I would add Nixon and G. H. Bush (41) to the list of recent presidents who were well-versed in foreign policy.
#9) Actors do what any of us would do if some “bimbette” held a microphone in front of them; they’d talk. Mostly about innane things that no one is actually interested in, but occassionally someone (whether that someone be a Hollywood type or a common citizen on the street) with a little more interest in a particular issue will talk about that issue. Passion can be a good thing, but a thing more emotional than critical and needing to be seen as such.
The only difference is that no one holds a microphone to any of us.
