Blue Bell beats Ben & Jerry’s
by David Benzion · 05/31/2006 2:07 pmWho knew?
… Many people consider [Blue Bell ice cream] the best in the country. So many people think so that Blue Bell, though sold in only 16 states, mostly in the South, and sold for a premium price, ranks No. 3 in sales nationally, trailing only Dreyer’s (known as Edy’s in some areas) and Breyers, ahead of the more widely available Häagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s.
[Hat-tip: New York Times]
Attention Blue Bell executives and/or marketing department staff– LST stands ready to completely sell-out in terms of product-placement in exchange for free product.

David, we always knew you were a sellout….=D
Hagen Daaz and B&J are also sold in small pints. BB is mostly sold in gallons. The best is Culvers Frozen custard( Mostly in the Midwest except one in The Woodlands and Austin) and Connies Frozen custard(Jones Rd) comes in second. Once youve had that, iced cream tastes like crap.
It’s finally official…. Bluebell Rules! IMHO…..
If you’ve never done it, take the tour of the plant in Brenham. And there’s a water park across the highway that’s pretty cheap too.. make a day of it!
I wrote Blue Bell years ago suggesting that they market a flavor with peanutbutter cup mix-in. They sent me a nice, polite, non-committal form-letter back. ~6 months later I see that very flavor in Geralnd’s. I bought it, ate it, and then never saw that flavor again. What’s up with that? Chocolate chip cookie dough is my alternative, but it’s nowhere near as good as that peanut butter cup stuff was. I need to take the kids and do that tour faster suggests in #3. Sounds like a good day.
Peaches and homemade vanilla - uuum uuum good - I will gladdly trade chocolate for a bowl of fresh peaches and homemade vanilla. Reminds me of Sunday picnics and ole cranky, rock salt, and fried chicken. Now thoses were the days
I grew up in the Midwest and, trust me, tried about every kind of ice cream available. Blue Bell is my favorite of all time, hands down.
Besides, eating Ben & Jerry’s gives me the creeps.
RickG,
Dang, get out of my head man. Where’d you grow up? Me - Toledo, Ohio.
I like a beer float of Schlitz and Blue Bell Mocha Almond Fudge.
7 Dude:
I grew up in Southern (rural) Illinois, in a town of about 8,000. The area is best known for its. . ., well, nothing, really, but we got along fine. Actually, my hometown is one of the few places in the world where albino (true - snow white and pink eyed) squirrels lived. Thus, the town was known as “The Home of the White Squirrels.” Even when I was a kid, the joke was over whether the motto referred to the animal found around town or the city council.
Background on “Olney: Home of the White Squirrels”

Although it should be noted that some town in Missouri claims the title for itself.
I ain’t going there.
David
Stick around someone will and I am running out of cyber whiteout.
My 2 year old girl will testify that Blue Bell is the best. Her name is Belle, and she’d be a great spokestoddler!
Egad. Benzion is omniscient.
#4 I have a gallon of Blue Bell peanutbutter cup in my freezer…mmmmffmm mmmm mmmmm ok…mmmfmfmmfm maybe a scoop or 2 left now.
#2 I’ll have to agree about Connie’s. That has got to be some of the best I’ve ever had…and I have made an attempt at trying as many kinds as possible. I am willing to be a taste test dummy if there are any more ice cream surveys that need to be taken.
I love Blue Bell (Coffee, Neopolitan, and many others), but I won’t pay the outrageous $5.69/half gallon. I will only pay 2 for $7 when Kroger has it on sale.
Being from New England, I grew up on Hood products (Harry Hood, does anyone remember?). Certainly not as good as Blue Bell. There are some great creameries up in New England (my daughters worked for one of the best…a goldmine).
Anyway, I eat ice cream just about every day. My grandmother ate ice cream (with Cool Whip) every day, my father eats ice cream every day.

I thought that was a secret.
I’ve only found it in pints and buy it out.

You are sick.
You put Guiness in the Schlitz first.
It was better with Falstaff or Pabst but that’s in the past.

I have been accused of being a touch off bubble.
Nat
I especially like Schlitz and a half dozen boiled eggs and hot sauce.
Shakey.. My grandfather would eat a bowl of icecream almost every night. He would put a little milk in the bowl. Sometimes he would get mellorine ( I think that was my grandmother’s doing…). I loved going over there because most of the time he had Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla! I am partial to Dutch chocolate, but that plain old homemade vanilla is hard to beat!
Gag on Dreyers- Breyers I won’t buy cuz the Judge! B & J’s is Too High Dollar.
Blue Bell gets my vote! Choc.Mint Chip is my favorite.
Number 2 vote is Braums. They are in No. Texas and Oklahoma, good stuff.
#14,
You serious? Surely not. If you are, tell me where to get it. I’ll buy all of it. Money is no object. OK, that’s a stretch, money is always an object, but I do want some.
When you taste my husband’s homemade ice cream, you will not ever want BB, B&J, Dreyer’s/Breyer’s or Haagen-Dazs. I guarantee it.
SEND ME SOME BLUE BELL!!!
JUST HOMEMADE VANILLA WOULD BE GREAT!!!
THEY DON’T SELL IT UP HERE IN COLORADO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, just a little withdrawal there…

I cannot believe that you would defile the perfect food of Blue Bell Mocha Almond Fudge with Schlitz. It combines my 3 favortie food groups - ice cream, coffee, and chocolate, already. Who needs the suds?
Blue Bell Triple Chocolate is the best, but have only found it about 4 times. I buy all I can find. Words can’t describe the taste.
#22, TheDude…I found it in two places so far, Krogers at Louetta and Grant (Northwest side of town) and at the Wally World on 1960 and Eldridge. I think that Blue Bell has become a little tempermental about what they are putting out, but I will do my part help keep the sales up on this one so they don’t table this idea.
Too cute. Gotta love Blue Bell.
My favorite Blue Bell flavor is Tin Roof. It’s vanilla ice cream with lots of chocolate covered roasted peanuts and chocolate sauce. It tastes like a Nutty Buddy ice cream cone (remember those?).
I have to admit B&Js is a great product, but it is overpriced, and I’ll be dipped if I’m giving those Vermont moonbats a dime of my money.
