Seniors who hadn’t had children in school for many years, yet had to pay high property taxes. They were given a small break to where their property taxes were frozen. Now our Governer and Lt. Governer are all over radio and TV touting this huge tax cut. Since the retirees taxes are frozen they will not realize the paltry little tax cut but they will be FORCED to pay all the NEW taxes that were passed by the legislature.
Who in LST land knows the answer to this?
Let’s see - perry and dewhurst and all the illegals - remember that is why we need to let them in is to work a jobs we won’t do and pay taxes for benefits they won’t receive.
Remember excess taxation is a Houston area problem as the rest of the state does not seem to have a problem with all these tax cuts given by the legislature.
#1 Yes, it is indeed, a beautiful day in the neighborhood, woke up before daylight, to the beautiful music of a summer thunder storm. Got three and a half inches of rain before six AM.
This would be the Clear Lake area.
Been up since 4AM, here in Clear Lake. Probabaly, with this amount of rain Clear Lake may be actually be clear, if only about 6 inches from the surface.
Death to the Death Tax! Death to the Death Tax!
Could it really be so? Stay tuned and see if the Weenierepubs can actually do something they promised us they would do when we elected them into office.
A Reuters employee has been suspended after sending a death threat to an American blogger.
The message, sent from a Reuters internet account, read: “I look forward to the day when you pigs get your throats cut.”
It was sent to Charles Johnson, owner of the Little Green Footballs (LGF) weblog, a popular site which often backs Israel and highlights jihadist terrorist activities.
In the threat, the Reuters staff member, who has not been named, left his email address as “zionistpig” at hotmail.com.
Reporting the message to his readers, Johnson wrote on his website: “This particular death threat is a bit different from the run of the mill hate mail we get around here, because an IP lookup on the sender reveals that he/she/it was using an account at none other than Reuters News.”
Let’s not fall for the usual dog and pony show (gay marriage, flag burning, etc…) that usually hooks us. We need to keep our eye on what our elected officials are doing, not the empty words they speak to the easily swayed.
I agree in part, Willie. The problem is that, for many, issues like abortion and gay marriage are more than just “wedge” issues. Lou Dobbs may be missing that point. The easily swayed may indeed fall for rhetoric on those issues that they consider important. The thing that gets me is that regardless of the candidate or message, we rarely get what was advertised during the campaign. Before voting for any incumbent I intend to scrutinize their voting record on a number of issues. The border is certainly a big issue, but it’s not the only issue.
I will not vote for Perry again. There are instances where I’ll probably just skip boxes altogether, if an incumbent is my only choice. In the governor’s race, I won’t feel bad about voting for Kinky.
Cant wait to see the TV reporterettes standing in the puddles tonight. I forgot what standing water looked like. Thanks Big Big Big 2 News! Don’t worry about all the Mexicans running across the border or our corrupt politicians, just show us puddles and wrecked cars we’ll be happy.
I don’t think I am going to vote for any incumbents. It’s time we the voters send them a message that just because we voted you in doesn’t mean we will keep voting you in. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! I’m not voting for Perry, hutchlesson
(wrote her 2 letters and all I get back is form leeters), Cornyn pissed me off by voting no on the amendment to stop illegal aliens from getting SS bennies. McCain NO WAY! who does that leave?
#19) Dude:
I think the “wedge” issues Dobbs cited are those that tend to rally the base, but in the long term, those issues will inevitably (if history is any guide) fall into the background until the next election cycle when, once again, they will be trotted out. Nothing will be done with them. Empty words once again.
I know the Chronicle is a hated item around these parts, but every Sunday (in Section A) there is a listing of how everyone in the Texas delegation voted during the preceeding week. If more people would pay attention to how they actually vote, then we would be more likely, as citizens, to hold them accountable.
I plan on voting against every incumbent, no matter the party. Maybe that will get their attention and refocus them on doing the people’s will, rather than currying favor with special interests and putting party interests first.
One can only hope.
Afghanistan and Iraq are both part of the GLOBAL War on Terror. Neither is over yet. neither will be over for a while. it will be a long war, but it is one we MUST FIGHT for in not fighting, we lose.
The only changein Afghaniztan is that NATO is taking over. The Taliban sees this as an opportunity. Thje problem for them is that when they expose themselves, they make targets of themselves.
Of course, we could do it the way you, Gregg, Headshaker, and the Democrats want…and just come home to wiat for them to get their collective crap together over there and then come here.
Sarge, you still think we in fighting a war on terror. What a F’n joke. Lets see, Osama is in Pakistan but we cant go there because it will make the Pakis mad. Most of our problems are in Saudi Arabia but we have to kiss their asses because we need their oil. Iraq should be a smoldering piece of glass but we cant make the Muslim world mad at us. They might get really mad.
The UN houses a bunch of anti-semitic, corrupt, terrorist loonatics and we give them more money and let them conduct business on our shores.
Until we declare war and really fight its nothing more than the same excrement like “The War on Poverty” The War on Drugs”.
#25) Not that again!
sarge, I have told you on numerous occasions that I do not hold with your position that Iraq and Afghanistan are tied together. You can state that time and time again, but that doesn’t make it so.
Afghanistan will be lost to the extremists because of a lack of political will, not because the public turned against it. Yes, we did overthrow the Taliban and that was a good thing. They DIRECTLY participated in the horror of 9/11 and needed to be punished. The problem is that, once the ill-fated Iraqi war began, we left the job of stabilizing and rebuilding Afghanistan up to a small military contingent, civilian contractors and NGO’s. That, and not public opinion, is the reason for our failure. We traded a religious group (Taliban) for war lords and drug traffickers (our erstwhile allies). The average Afghani doesn’t see much as being improved, only the characters have changed.
As I’ve told you time and time again, I opposed the war in Iraq and think it has hurt, not helped, the war on terror. We are less safe than we were pre-invasion (in my opinion). We left Afghanistan in the same horrible shape that gave rise to the Taliban in the first place and that will come back to bite us in the posterior.
My position on Iraq hasn’t changed. We should have isolated Saddam into the central part of Iraq (where he was already isolated by means of the “no-fly zone”) and encouraged The Kurds in the north and the Shiites in the south to declare independence from Baghdad. We would have created a more realistic region (ethnically speaking-something the British ignored) and surrounded Baghdad with not one, but two, democracies. All this could have been accomplished without the loss of life and money that the invasion and occupation incurs each and every day.
Please, please for the love of God, never say again that you don’t know where I stand on this issue. This makes like the fourth or fifth time that I’ve outlined it for you. You need to work on your memory.
#29) That’s one position, but we could have sold the Turks on the idea by encouraging the Turkish Kurds to go home to their own free nation.
I say we focus more on preserving American life than in tip-toeing around our “allies”. The Turks would have to go along, they need us more than we need them. Since when does Turkey “allow” us to do anything? Since when do we need their opinion on matters of American security?
Sarge,
In yesterday’s Chronicle was an item stating that 3500 troops are called up to go to Iraq. It quotes Maj. Breasseale as saying “enough is never enough” when it comes to commanders on the ground wanting more troops. This conflicts with the President stating over and over that we have enough troops there, that we give our commanders the troops which they ask for. It stands to reason that more troops would be better as opposed to less, with our side having to react rather than being proactive.
We have gotten ourselves into a fine mess in Iraq. If we send in more troops it signals we are getting whipped by a bunch of robe wearing camel pirates. If we pull troops out it leaves the ones there in a tight spot and the camel pirates see us as running away.
Face it. We are screwed either way and our guys are getting killed and maimed because we chose to fight a PC war.
I ask all of you with kids. “Would you sacrifice your childs life to have a free and democratic Iraq?” Dont change the question, just honestly answer it. My answer is no. Dont give me this global war on terror crap. See #27. Until we kick all these sons of beyotches out of THIS country FIRST dont start with GWOT talk IN Iraq.
#31) shannon:
Question: And what exactly would Turkey have done had we helped establish a Kurdish state in northern Iraq?
Answer: Not a damn thing. A de facto Kurdistan already exists.
We could have tied Turkey’s agreement to this with their EU membership (something they greatly desire).
Where there is a will, there is a way.
comments from the father about the current status.
I spent about an hour with Jamey today in the ICU waiting room. He was there with various members of his and Sherri’s families, including his mother and Sherri’s mother.
He talked…I listened. I didn’t ask many questions, I just let him speak his heart. He said that the seriousness of Sherri’s condition was not from the burns but more from the damage to her lungs. She is on the ventilator because her lungs are not functioning on their own. They are doing treatments to “clean out” her lungs, hoping they will begin to function on their own. Her burns are beginning to scab over and heal as they should.
He shared with me that he and Sherri were to remarry in July. That he had bought her a ring, but she didn’t know it yet. Then he grinned and said “But Maci did.” He said that Andrew is his main focus right now and for that reason they would make their base in Hope at Jamey’s Dad’s house. Andrew is comfortable there…familiar…and has toys, etc. already there. He said that they have spoken to Andrew about Maci and about Heaven. Jamey said that Andrew has greived enough that he knows that he understands.
He wanted me to tell everyone that he greatly appreciates your thoughts and prayers. He is very grateful for the outpouring of love and support. He said he is very grateful for the offers of help. But, he said, as he swept his hand across the waiting room full of at least 15 family members, I have lots of support and we have everything we need for now.
He asked that I pass along a request not to send flowers. He said if anyone asks, there will not be a funeral right now. Due to the length of Sherri’s recovery and the extent of Maci’s injuires, they have decided to cremate her and have a small, private Memorial Service for Maci in a few months when Sherri is able. I asked him if there was somewhere that they would prefer that people send a Memorial Gift for Maci. He said there was a Memorial Fund already set up at the Farmers Bank in Greenwood (1 West Center Street, Greenwood, AR 72936). He also said, “they can donate to their own churches in our name if they would rather…or…just hug their kids…if they want to do something for me, tell them to just keep passing along the good deeds to someone else who needs it.”
When I mentioned coming back up to visit on another day, he said that because they are traveling to and from Hope each day it would be best to call him before making the trip up to the hospital. If you are interested, let me know, I have his number.
Thank-you, Prayer Warriors! I can not begin to express the comfort I gather from knowing that I can depend on you to spend time on your knees when it matters most.
I’m not an airplane, but this scenario sounds relatively plausible:
It’s odd: you can worry about meteors and cosmic explosions all you want, but the biggest killer of all times is already here — and is doing fine. In fact, life’s oldest and most deadly enemy is preparing for yet another devastating attack on the human race. Diseases — don’t ever underestimate them.
(SNIP)
Or consider the flu. Say ‘influenza’, and you tend to think of a mild disease. But in fact, the flu is by far the most lethal opponent of human life on Earth. In it’s lethal, ‘Spanish Flu’ form, influenza causes you to die a horrible death.
(SNIP)
I’ll answer all your comments in this one message In comment # 35 you say
We could have tied Turkey’s agreement to this with their EU membership (something they greatly desire).
Where there is a will, there is a way.
My response is what influence do we have with the EU? ZERO.. They are almost as big a pain in our sides as the terrorists, only they are attacking the concept of independant countries and rights with global government and currency.
In #30
I say we focus more on preserving American life than in tip-toeing around our “allies”. The Turks would have to go along, they need us more than we need them. Since when does Turkey “allow” us to do anything? Since when do we need their opinion on matters of American security?
you are correct in the fact that we need to worry about our security and preserving american lives, however as long as there is conflict in Afganistan, and Iraq or other areas and we are the agressor, then people like the Taliban,OBL, and Al-zaquari, will be spending more time running than planing attacks on the USA itself.
It has been proven many times, when the enenmy is in a defensive mode, they are not able to strike your resources. And as long as we keep them running and looking over their shoulders, they will be spending their $$$ on saving their collective hides and not sending it here to what ever operatives they have here to do what ever damage they want.
Also I find it really funny that these “leaders” stay hidden in caves and rat holes around the world. Where as our leaders both political and military are out in the open. Could it be that they do not want to practice what they preach?
Good post. It provokes a thought: is part of what we’re doing in the Middle East a response to the formation/growth of the EU? Is the EU a real threat to our global power in the future?
Through all of time there has been one country that stabilizes the world. Rome did for a while, Britain colonized a bunch. The US is the main one
now. We have troops around the world, if there is a natural disaster we are the first ones there. It’s our duty since we are the strongest and it
is what keeps us strong. No one country has ever sustained that type of domination. Rome died, India kicked Britain out etc… Is our country going to be able to sustain its greatness? I think that China might be the next one, scary thought eh?
They got plenty of people and economically they are comin on.
Something you Democrats would never understand:
Americans - we’re homesteaders.
We want a safe home, keep the money we make, and shoot bad guys.

The ONLY way to change a warlike culture (which worked with Germany & Japan) is to inflict so much pain on their entire way of life that they themselves wish to change their entire outlook on life and give up their tyrannical ideology. You also have to take over their government and infrastuctures for years. That’s what we did in Germany and Japan. We ran their government, wrote their constitutions, and ran their schools for years - after we bombed them into submission and inflicted massive casualties on them. Even Japan was not really defeated on that level. The Emporer just gave up. The people of Japan still thought they were winning the war. When the Hirohito announced the surrender, the Japanese people thought the war was ending because they had won.
Sarge nails it right that this is a fight we must win or we will ultimately lose. Willie has nice ideas, but they’re unworkable. Willie, you should go there yourself and take a look, or talk to people who have actually spent a long time there. The course we are taking now is the only one open to us, UNLESS we use the tactics we used during WW2 from Morocco to Indonesia.
So far we’ve lost about 2,500 good Americans in three years of this conflict. We still need to keep things in perspective. We loose 9,000+ Americans to murder on our streets every year. We loose almost 1,400 to cancer in our nation every day. The loss of any one of our Americans to the terrorists is sad. I have my own family blood on the line in this. I have many friends & neighbors with sons, daughters, and sons in law serving in Iraq, many for their second or third time. The loss of 800 Americans per year for three years to keep the terrorists from our shores is a price worth paying. It’ll be alot more than that if we don’t.
What is most important to the people doing the fighting, bleeding, and dying, and their families, is that they KNOW you support them in the fight. Right or wrong, they’re in the fight. They are worthy of 100% of the support of the American people.
So far, out of our LST readers, only three of us have committed to being there on Saturday to support men and women who have suffered the most tragic of wounds in this battle. I think that’s pretty damn sad.
The people you hear saying
‘I support the troops
but do not support the mission’
are the same people who will say we should find a way to get along with Hugo Chavez and that we need to understand the Palastinians.
I have 2 friends who are currently ex-pating overseas, one in Kuwait, one in Nigeria. Before that they worked on rotations.. 1 month on one off.
they have seen the major cities of europe both before and after the EU and their changes, and for the most part think that it is doomed to failure. The EU is nothing more than the next great socialist experiment. Communism failed in Russia because we were essentially able to bankrupt the country, why you ask because in the US workers are encouraged to add value to what ever they are doing. Communism does not encourage that. Also I would bet good money that 90% of all technology that the Soviets developed was based in some way off of tech “obtained” from some free country.
This one currency one government idea will fail because there are to many different variables that they cannot control. The largest of these is the inherent regional distrust, which goes all the way back to the 11th century and the Roman Empire and their attempts to conqure the Germanic Tribes. Germans don’t trust the French to do the “right thing” nor do the Italians trust the Germans nor do the French really trust the Italians… Eventually the infighting amongst them will tear the EU apart.
I for one applauded Great Brittian for keeping as far away as they can from this train wreck waiting to happen. These countries have to realize that with what 4 or 5 times the land and at least that much in resources advantage we are simply going to over power them.
Can you imagine the US, Canada, and Mexico creating a similar body and calling it the North American Union. Just how long would it last. Now granted we have NAFTA, but there is a big difference between lowering trade barriers and trying to blend 3 unique and vastly different governments and cultures into one. There is not a single country that could match us person for person when it comes to getting the job done, and if or when the call comes, I would bet my last dollar that the US will come out on top for one single reason, we may not agree on political points, or many other things, but if push came to shove, even the most liberal treehugger will pick up a weapon and defend his home if it means losing it and not being able to speak his mind.
you talk about bombing the enemy into submission and then rebuilding the government and society into one that is not agressive, well that is what we are doing in Iraq, What most liberals and anti war advocates is that in the past 12 months there have been more Iraqi civilians and law enforcement officials that have died that US Soilders in the 3 years of the conflict. The general population of Iraq wants this change and they are showing it by being willing to both serve and in many cases die in the line of duty. What is happening is that over time as this government get a handle on running things we will see less of the terror attacks and more arrests and fewer innocent civilians being killed and injured. It takes time but the liberals do not want to admit that we are being successful. The second biggest piece of proof that we are being succesful in Iraq is look at how the other “terror states” are reacting. Syria and Jordan are getting very quiet. Lybia has done a 180,and is atleast trying to play nice. Only Iran which is run by the extreme islamic sects is stepping up the noise, and that is simply bluster. Their military is in worse shape than Iraq’s was. Even the little dictator in North Korea has been quiet and willing to work with the big boys.
I grudgingly give China some credit there. I would bet that they basically told him to shut up and play nice or they would cut off the $$$…
#52 that is only because it removed a “threat” from his borders. what he and his mulla puppeteers did not realize was that a Democratic Iraq would be a bigger threat because it is an example to the citizens of Iran of what they could have if they reject the Mulla’s rule and stand up.
Freedom is like a virus and it is the one disease that most tyrants do not want their population to catch. Just ask the Russians, and Chineese.
Big, I’m not arguing we shouldn’t take this approach. We need to fight.
The question is can we ever overcome a mindset that has existed for hundreds of year and is rooted in faith, and is spreading well beyond (worldwide) the arena in which we’re fighting?
“Congress pressures Pakistan to give more information about possible proliferation, upsetting already-delicate ties.”
“The government of Pakistan does not allow direct interrogation of Khan,”…..Pakistan would not “take dictation from anybody on our national interests.”
Interesting timing on this EU discussion. I just came back from lunch and read this. There is a major “if” in that story that, unfortunately, I don’t think will happen. I hope I’m wrong.
“While the Bush administration was telling us how hard they were working on the war on terror, officials with the DIA were convinced that nuclear technology was transferred to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, or ISA. ISA has close ties to al-Qaeda. The nightmare scenario we all face now is whether A.Q. Khan turned over enough details to give al-Qaeda the bomb.”

So what if it is all about money?! It’s also about
winning Houston a Series and yes it could be about
playing with his son. They can bring him up late in the season. If I ordered 1 million bears and I was the President of Iran, would you turn it down?
Your point is? It’s bad to take money?
#64 Shakey - Wrong. If it was all about money he would have taken the offer with the most money. I think I’m gonna stop calling you HeadRodhamShaker and start calling you HeadDebbieDownerShaker.
LOL! hamous right on the money. As a sports fan in
Houston, this is the best possible news you could hear, then headshaker says, It’s all about the money! Who cares?! I’m going to buy tickets to a
game that Clemens pitches, so my son can say he was there! YES I SUPPORT HOUSTON PRO SPORTS
TEAMS AND I DON’T CARE WHO KNOWS! Greed is good!
Smackie, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing for Houston. I’m just stating a fact. I like to watch Clemens pitch, but he will not make the difference in the Astros reaching the World Series this year. It’s more likely he’ll get injured and/or not perform to his standards. Age has a way of causing that.
#66 Hammie - your argument makes no sense. It can be about the money and be Houston, not NY.
Shakey, you’ve developed a habit of “stating a fact” which is nothing more than your opinion. Logically speaking, if it was “all about money”, the key word being “all”, then he would take the offer that gives him the most money. It ain’t that hard to understand and it makes perfect sense. It’s Eskimo Pie
Watch out kathi, that shakey doesn’t tip very good. Its all about money with him!
You are black, and I am white
Life’s an Eskimo Pie, let’s.. take a bite!
That was groovy thinkin’
Lincoln, when you set them freeeeeee… — Frank Sinatra (Joe Piscopo) singing Ebony and Ivory with Stevie Wonder
yes Clemens is getting to back an armored truck up to the house that Drayton Built and the Tax payers own. But there were other reasons that he chose Houston over NY or even Boston.
1) He will get to play with his son, yes it will be down in the Minor Leagues but He will play with him, and possibly have him on the roster at the end of the season.
2) Houston was the only team that could offer him the ability to not have to be at the park on days he did not pitch, as well as only traveling to the cities that he would be pitching at on the road.
Sigh, lol, it’s dessert (unless it’s a really dry food). But if you say dessert, you rankle other folks. You must say confectionary cuisine, otherwise, you upset the bakers and sweets industry workers. And if you get them mad, well…..look out for what your sweetie gets in her next box of
chocolates.
He chose to play because of the money, whether it was Houston or another team. The logical choice was Houston because of the added benefits you stated. You don’t commit to the grind of the major league level to play a minor league game with your son or sleep in your own bed, those are ancillary benefits. You make the commitment because of $12+ million.
Smackie, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing for Houston. I’m just stating a fact. I like to watch Clemens pitch,
Good upbeat conversation about the stros then this:
but he will not make the difference in the Astros reaching the World Series this year. It’s more likely he’ll get injured and/or not perform to his standards. Age has a way of causing that.
The Astros need pitching and Clemens will boost Pettite, Oswalt etc… spirits plus he will be a calming influence on the younger pitchers. Clemens may be the only reason why we make the series this year.
did I not agree with you. Yes he is doing it because of the $$$ but the fact that me may have taken less to stay here is at least something to be mentioned. Granted the reasons he took less are the ones I stated before. Also he will be working on getting in game shape on a Minor league contract that pays him only $335k for the year so if for some reason he cannot make it or decides that coming back was a mistake he only gets a prorated portion of that contract. That alone speaks volumes of the man. He could have demanded to have a the Major league contract but agreed to wait till he is on the MLB roster to collect the $$$$
#91 Hammie - I know the truth hurts. The Astros suck this year. Don’t waste your money on them! Send bricks to your elected officials for the wall! Adopt a child in Africa! Give it to me!
Astros don’t affect me at all. I don’t watch their games, I don’t go to their games, I don’t buy their team paraphernalia, I don’t live in Harris County and pay taxes to support them. When they make a MLB clause that they’ll never go on strike again, I’ll be back to watch the sport of baseball. Until then, it’s just business, and I don’t watch business meetings.
How much you wanna bet I have more fun at any sporting event than you? I don’t need Debbie Clemens I got my own little hottie at home!
I just got an email from the lottery department
saying this:
This is to inform you that you have been selected for a cash prize of 3,600,000.00 (Three Million Six Hundred Thousand Great British Pounds)and a brand new toyota car (Toyota Prius) International programs held on the 31th May. 2006 in the London Uk.
Your probably going to tell me thats not true too!
#94 - I’d have to go back and check but I’d be willing to bet you said the same thing last year whent they were 15 and 30. Things turned out pretty damn good and we made enough money on game 4 world series tickets to pay for last years and this years tickets. Its all about money for me. Life’s an Eskimo Pie!
And I cleared my use of the term “Eskimo Pie” with the Inuit Circumpolar Conference and they said as long as I was not referring to any member of any Inuit group as “Eskimo” and only using it as the brand name of a certain frozen confection then the usage was allowed.
I wonder if the attorney Paul Hackett who is defending Captain James Kimber of 3/1 is the same Paul Hackett who ran for Congress in Ohio? Also, I note now that the reports are the lst Marine Regiment involved in the killings at Haditha. Initially it was reported it was the 5th Marine Regiment. I wonder how much else about this story is in error.
Yeah, you will have more fun because I don’t go! Those a-holes don’t give a crap about you, but if you get fair entertainment value for your money then more power to you.
Keep that little hottie at home happy! It’s not an easy job!
So, your point is? You make it sound like because Big45 doesn’t go to the games, then everybody else should do the same?
Yes, it is a business AND IT’S ENTERTAINMENT! I go to see a game played by the best in the world. I go because it’s an American past time. I go because I enjoy it THERE!
I said it AGAIN! I’m out of the closet. I love baseball, I love $7 beer and I love Astro t-shirts.
It won’t mean a thing in a hundred years, so why not enjoy it?
#96 - Big, I was like that for quite a few years after the last strike. I also never voted for any stadium funding. But I really like baseball.
Back when the Astros were making leaving noises I wouldn’t have been too sad to see ‘em go. Then we could get a minor league team here and watch “hungry” guys play and only pay $2/beer instead of $9.
/Note to self - Don’t invite Big or Shakey to Astros game.
Am I supposed to have those a-holes give a crap about me before I go to the games? I don’t care
if they give a crap about me, I don’t give a crap about them and I will scream at them when they play like crap!
Was at a Rockets game this past year and they were playing like crap. Went with my neighbor across the street, he drove so I was able to have a few beers. I was pi$$ed because Stromile Swift was playing like crap, so I walked all the way down
to right behind the Rockets bench and started screaming, “Stromile sucks, bring on Artest” (this was before Artest was traded to Sacramento) 3 times and walked back up to my seat. My neighbor was freaked out, thought I was gonna get arrested.
Too funny. The cops gave me a thumbs up sign when I walked back to my seat.
Sigh, lol, it’s dessert (unless it’s a really dry food).
No… really… I meant to say desert. I like to eat sand after dinner. Doesn’t everyone? It really aids the digestive process. Yeah, that’s it. That’s the ticket.
You like tall skinny flat chested women?? Who cares
if they are running.
I wanna see a team of short, fat, huge breasted women (who are heterosexual BTW) running up and down the court. Now that sounds like some bang for my entertainment buck. How come they never let me market this stuff? I’m a genius I tell ya’ (aside from the fact that I don’t know how to spell “dessert”).
Smack, I’m a leg man anyway. Hamous, you can also leave me out of tickets for the NBA and NFL. Those a-holes went on strike too! When you’ve bought four season tickets for 8 years running, and they decide to tell their entire customer base to stuff it, well, some folks just aren’t going to forgive them. Until they have a no strike clause, they can do without me. I love baseball to. But there’s plenty of baseball around that you can watch…kids, HS, college, etc. I won’t go see a bunch of rich crybabies.
Its a beautiful day in the neighborhood…

#1 Yes, it is indeed, a beautiful day in the neighborhood, woke up before daylight, to the beautiful music of a summer thunder storm. Got three and a half inches of rain before six AM.
This would be the Clear Lake area.
Been up since 4AM, here in Clear Lake. Probabaly, with this amount of rain Clear Lake may be actually be clear, if only about 6 inches from the surface.
Won’t you be… won’t you be… please won’t you be… my neighbor. Hi neighbor. Would you like to take a trip to the magic kingdom?

Death to the Death Tax! Death to the Death Tax!
Could it really be so? Stay tuned and see if the Weenierepubs can actually do something they promised us they would do when we elected them into office.
Anyone out there in Channelview? I heard it was flooding out that way. Not here in Tomball, just lots of rain.
Wow… all the rain on the metal roof of the shop here makes me want to put my feet up on my desk and go back to sleep!

This will really date me, I remember tin roofs, now that was nice. We needed the rain, yep, I watered the plants last night.
But where is this fence…stone face? What is it?
I found this interesting. It seems that someone at Reuters is sending Death Threats to Little Green Footballs. I thought the DLWM was all about freedom of expression? I guess not… Whodathunkit?
http://littlegreenfootballs.com/weblog/?entry=20815_Reuters_Death_Threat_Update_5&only
It’s also here:
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3256534,00.html
At least the picture is not a darn clown!

As good a summation as any I’ve read:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/30/dobbs.May31/index.html
Let’s not fall for the usual dog and pony show (gay marriage, flag burning, etc…) that usually hooks us. We need to keep our eye on what our elected officials are doing, not the empty words they speak to the easily swayed.
16
Shame on you. Almost lost my breakfast.
Don’t worry about all the Mexicans running across the border or our corrupt politicians, just show us puddles and wrecked cars we’ll be happy.
so, its that time again, someone told me that:
The Boys Are Back In Town
I don’t think I am going to vote for any incumbents. It’s time we the voters send them a message that just because we voted you in doesn’t mean we will keep voting you in. POWER TO THE PEOPLE! I’m not voting for Perry, hutchlesson
(wrote her 2 letters and all I get back is form leeters), Cornyn pissed me off by voting no on the amendment to stop illegal aliens from getting SS bennies. McCain NO WAY! who does that leave?
I don’t want no stinkin form leeters!

Willie;
What, exactly, is your solution?
We never seem to hear that…..
BTW,,,,
Who ever said we were finihsed in Afghanistan?
Turkey would not have allowed a Kurdish state due to their large Kurd population.
Turkey would not have stood by and let a Kurdish state form. Period.
Did anyone read the Der Spiegel interview with Iran’s President the other day?
http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/spiegel/0,1518,418660,00.html
Sarge,
In yesterday’s Chronicle was an item stating that 3500 troops are called up to go to Iraq.

My response is what influence do we have with the EU? ZERO.. They are almost as big a pain in our sides as the terrorists, only they are attacking the concept of independant countries and rights with global government and currency.
In #30
you are correct in the fact that we need to worry about our security and preserving american lives, however as long as there is conflict in Afganistan, and Iraq or other areas and we are the agressor, then people like the Taliban,OBL, and Al-zaquari, will be spending more time running than planing attacks on the USA itself.
Hamous, just click on my name. I think we should have gregg as our spokesman to counter President

“The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people.” Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis
#41, headshaker,
thanks,
I have 2 friends who are currently ex-pating overseas, one in Kuwait, one in Nigeria.
Hugo Chavez needs to go, period. However it needs to be done.
Be where for what Saturday?
Emphatically, yes. They appease Muslim extremism, which in turn encourages it.

#45,
Big,
you talk about bombing the enemy into submission and then rebuilding the government and society into one that is not agressive, well that is what we are doing in Iraq, What most liberals and anti war advocates is that in the past 12 months there have been more Iraqi civilians and law enforcement officials that have died that US Soilders in the 3 years of the conflict.
I would bet that they basically told him to shut up and play nice or they would cut off the $$$…
Even the President of Iran is happy we took out Saddam. No one is arguing that issue.
BW #51, I think you missed this at the end of the second paragraph in my #45:
The course we are taking now is the only one open to us, UNLESS we use the tactics we used during WW2 from Morocco to Indonesia.
Big, I’m not arguing we shouldn’t take this approach. We need to fight.
The question is can we ever overcome a mindset that has existed for hundreds of year and is rooted in faith, and is spreading well beyond (worldwide) the arena in which we’re fighting?
I don’t know the answer.

“The Pan-Islamic Bomb and Mr. Khan”

So Clemens is back. Over $12 million for 4 months work, not bad. If anyone thinks the motivation was something other than money, keep dreaming.
Big, post the link again for Saturday. I’ll post it too.
The whole world is festering with unhappy souls
The French hate the Germans
The Germans hate the Pols
Italians hate Ugosloves
South Africans hate the Dutch
AND I DON’T LIKE ANYBODY VERY MUCH!
remember the Kingston Trio?
#60 - The real motivation was a chance to play on the same team as his son. The Yankees would have paid him more so it wasn’t just about money.
#63 Hammie
His son won’t play for the Astros this season. Clemens could have signed a one-day contract and played in a game with his son in the minors.
Yes, the Yankees (and Red Sox) offered more money, but not enough to make him want to travel.
This is all about money; it usually is.
#64 headshaker
You wonder why I shake my head™
Shakey, you’ve developed a habit of “stating a fact” which is nothing more than your opinion. Logically speaking, if it was “all about money”, the key word being “all”, then he would take the offer that gives him the most money. It ain’t that hard to understand and it makes perfect sense. It’s Eskimo Pie
#69 Hammie
I’ll give you the “stating a fact” comment, but you’re just plain wrong on the other.
You’re right, it’s Eskimo Pie$$$$$$$$$$$$$

OOOH poooor shakey, I would never want to stress you out. Try copy and paste into your address bar, that sould make it load.

Kathi
LOL thanks Kathi!
Hey, some of us in the Copperfield area are getting together soon for lunch or something. Are you game?
Note to self, proof read, since you can’t type worth a flip
Sure, I would love to get together. got any ideas on where?
There’s a new place that just opened at Spring Cypress and 290 (right near the theatre). Maybe there. I’ll let you know.
Thanks.
Watch out kathi, that shakey doesn’t tip very good. Its all about money with him!
Also, Hamous, Eskimo Pie is not the preferred nomenclature. Native-Alaskan-American desert item, please.
Everyone,
yes Clemens is getting to back an armored truck up to the house that Drayton Built and the Tax payers own.
3) he gets to go home and sleep in his own bed with his own wife almost every night and who would blame him for that…
http://www.debbieclemens.com/images/dc_pink1.jpg
#78 Hammie
First of all, I’m a great tipper. In fact, here’s a great tip for ya - don’t mess with me when I’m at war with my family! LOL!
I can do better than Frank and Stevie:
Sigh, lol, it’s dessert (unless it’s a really dry food). But if you say dessert, you rankle other folks. You must say confectionary cuisine, otherwise, you upset the bakers and sweets industry workers. And if you get them mad, well…..look out for what your sweetie gets in her next box of
chocolates.
More Roger Clemens
Or this
http://www.debbieclemens.com/images/si_full.jpg
#80 bw
He chose to play because of the money, whether it was Houston or another team. The logical choice was Houston because of the added benefits you stated. You don’t commit to the grind of the major league level to play a minor league game with your son or sleep in your own bed, those are ancillary benefits. You make the commitment because of $12+ million.
Good upbeat conversation about the stros then this:
The Astros need pitching and Clemens will boost Pettite, Oswalt etc… spirits plus he will be a calming influence on the younger pitchers. Clemens may be the only reason why we make the series this year.
#83 bw
By the looks of her, he’s going to need every penny he earns and more! Damn!
#85
Smackie, keep contributing your obscene profits to these guys, they’ll love you for it. You might even get to see Debbie Clemens from afar some day.
Pettite is done. The team overachieved early in the season, but St. Louis is too strong.
How much would you like to bet that Clemens doesn’t win 60% of his games?
“…when I’m at war with my family”
Do you drive them as crazy as you drive us?
#88
I’m the victim!!!
#84,
shakey,
did I not agree with you. He could have demanded to have a the Major league contract but agreed to wait till he is on the MLB roster to collect the $$$$
“Pettite is done. The team overachieved early in the season, but St. Louis is too strong.”
For pete’s sake! Put yourself in one of those self-imposed exiles for a few weeks. You’re a real buzzkill, man!
Here’s the website for the Impact A Hero weekend.

#90 bw - we agree
#91 Hammie - I know the truth hurts. The Astros suck this year. Don’t waste your money on them! Send bricks to your elected officials for the wall! Adopt a child in Africa! Give it to me!
I posted it on Hambone too.
#96 Big - couldn’t have said it better myself.
#87 headshaker
How much you wanna bet I have more fun at any sporting event than you? I don’t need Debbie Clemens I got my own little hottie at home!
I just got an email from the lottery department
saying this:
Your probably going to tell me thats not true too!
#94 - I’d have to go back and check but I’d be willing to bet you said the same thing last year whent they were 15 and 30. Things turned out pretty damn good and we made enough money on game 4 world series tickets to pay for last years and this years tickets. Its all about money for me. Life’s an Eskimo Pie!
And I cleared my use of the term “Eskimo Pie” with the Inuit Circumpolar Conference and they said as long as I was not referring to any member of any Inuit group as “Eskimo” and only using it as the brand name of a certain frozen confection then the usage was allowed.
i’m back with # 100
song is at post #21, i woke up early thismorning
I wonder if the attorney Paul Hackett who is defending Captain James Kimber of 3/1 is the same Paul Hackett who ran for Congress in Ohio? Also, I note now that the reports are the lst Marine Regiment involved in the killings at Haditha. Initially it was reported it was the 5th Marine Regiment. I wonder how much else about this story is in error.
#98 Smackie
Yeah, you will have more fun because I don’t go! Those a-holes don’t give a crap about you, but if you get fair entertainment value for your money then more power to you.
Keep that little hottie at home happy! It’s not an easy job!
confectionary cuisine - naaaaah - lets just say CHOCOLATE - thick, gooey, rich sweet decedent chocolate.
OK now I am hungry, better go back to watching the eagles
#96 Big45
Besides that Shakey, the WNBA are a helluva lot more fun to watch run up and down the court!
#106 - Hammie
Wait! I’ll take free tickets! I may be ignorant but I ain’t stupid!
#108 - Ahhh! A man with convictions
I was right. For Shakey, its all about the money.
#110 Hammie
Ha!™
I’ll take the free tickets and I’ll buy the Debbie Clemens poster!

No… really… I meant to say desert. I like to eat sand after dinner. Doesn’t everyone? It really aids the digestive process. Yeah, that’s it. That’s the ticket.

You like tall skinny flat chested women?? Who cares
if they are running.
#112 Smackie - OK, I would have paid to see that!

me too
#112 - If you’re gonna yell obscenities at Nieve on Saturday, you gotta go down to the rail and do it
I wanna see a team of short, fat, huge breasted women (who are heterosexual BTW) running up and down the court.
