Shame. On YOU, baby, not me
by David Benzion · 06/27/2006 5:52 amIf 212 Harris County Republican precinct chairs want to spend $96,000 dollars a year to perform existential CPR on Orlando Sanchez’s political career, they ought to pass the damn hat and pay for it themselves.
Disgusting. Blech. Boo.
I’m going to stop (for now) before I write something I regret. Must drink morning coffee, calm down…
PREVIOUSLY: Get a job

What do you expect David? Orlando is looking to get to the taxpayer trough for a lifetime of benefits. He turned out to be a disappointment.
Dave - Are you turning on Dan?He tried twice to get him elected Mayor.
Whats wrong with Sanchez other than he is a Republican trying to run in a Democrat controlled city?

I’m with you on this one. Get a real job, Mr. Sanchez.
Oh, for Pete’s sake, one step at a time! Procedurally the executive committee had to do this, didn’t they? Whatever the result, now you go on and work to eliminate the position if you lean that way.
No fair criticizing the precinct chairs for another issue they had no say in. Da bucks was gonna be spent one way or another; they were only allowed to choose to whom the bucks went should a Republican win.
And in the interest of full disclosure, I am not a precinct chair, but was at the meeting.
Orlando has stated his agenda. Most of it has nothing to do with the function of the office.
Orlando is a liberal democrat or ultra RINO. He stands for RINO values except he wants to in office ie not working for a living.
Dan needs to reconsider saving orlando or janek as they are just milking the cow for all they can get.
Think about all those people who would be in the unemployment lines if we actually consolidated or eliminated duplicate or meaningless positions in government. That won’t happen, because it would actually save the taxpayers some money—-and you know we can’t have that. Well now that we have Dan, Paul, Edd and CLOUT, maybe we can!!!!!!
Excuse me?! Whether the office of county treasurer should be abolished is one topic, but a separate one.
Someone, explain to me how this is not the epitomy of hypocrisy:
“will be opposed in November by Richard Garcia, a Democrat, who advocates abolishing the office”
If he thinks the office should be abolished, why is he running for the position?

Exactly what I was wondering. Why does Garcia advocate abolishing the office he is running for? Makes no sense to this blonde!
I wonder what Orlando does between election primary losses?
Or, David, we could consider abolishing the Assessor Collector’s office and rolling those responsibilities into the Treasurer’s office.
Or does that arrow hit a little close to home for those of you affiliated with KSEV/LST?
I am in favor of abolishing government-funded jobs whenever possible, and making certain that whatever taxpayer-supported positions remain are occupied by qualified, competent individuals.
As far as I’m concerned, let’s go ahead and roll-up the Assessor’s, Treasurer’s, Commissioner’s and Mayor’s office into one big ball and elect Paul Bettencourt King.
Last night there actually WAS a nomination for Paul Bettencourt for the Treasurer position.
Until there’s a constitutional amendment abolishing the office, the HCRP pretty much had to pick a nominee. Otherwise the guy the Dems picked would go unchallenged and walk into a free countywide office.
That said, reducing the powers or eliminating an office that has minimal function anymore should be something they consider in the next legislative session.
David,
Did one of the candidates running advocate abolishing the office?
If so, then you have an argument. If they could vote for none of the above, then ok.
However, I’m happy that my precinct chair did his (volunteer) job and showed up and voted.
