Cornyn responds to Gitmo decision

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a member of the Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Armed Services Committee’s Emerging Threats and Capabilities subcommittee, made the following statement Thursday regarding the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on terrorist detainees and Guantanamo Bay:
"This is a blockbuster decision, and it will take some time to determine the consequences of what the Court said today. But they’ve opened the door to a legislative remedy, and as Congress plays a key role in this debate, we’ll work with the administration to reach a solution.
"We’re not talking about simple criminals-these detainees include the most violent terrorists in the world. And let’s not forget who we’re talking about in this particular case: Hamdan was captured in Afghanistan and is charged with delivering weapons and ammunition to al
Qaeda, providing logistical support to bin Laden’s bodyguards and participating in weapons training."The Court does not call into question the U.S. government’s power to detain terrorists while hostilities continue. This is critically important because we can’t allow terrorists to simply return home and restart their war plans. Guantanamo will remain open so long as it is in the national security interests of the United States."

I blame this whole mess on GWB and his admin. Let me explain. From day 1 he has claimed this is a “war” and the people we capture will be brought to “justice”. The way these so called “enemy combatants” have been treated in GITMO have been on the level or better than our own troops. They get all benefits of their religion, special food and various other treatments trying to conform to all international prisoner treatment. Now the SCOTUS says “Ok,you want to treat them like POW then you will have to give them trials and lawyers. GWB has tried to play nice and it just bit him in the 98546.
They should have interrogated these terrorists on the battlefield and then executed them.Bringing them to GITMO was a big mistake. Either fight the damn war the way wars have been fought for 10,000 years or get off the crapcan.
wow I can not believe I am saying this: Go Gregg
I have to agree with Gregg too. This is further proof of what pandering will accomplish
A great number of these people were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Not all of them are dangerous terrorists and not all of them receive good treatment, only a selected few.If the treatment was that good they would not try to commit suicide.
