Sen. Williams responds to CLOUT lawsuit
by David Benzion · 06/29/2006 1:07 pmAs we’ve noted previously, in an attempt to get elected officials on the record as to where they stand regarding the taxpayer watchdog group’s lawsuit to enforce the spending limitations of the Texas constitution, CLOUT has launched "Operation Accountability."
You can get a copy of the lawsuit, an executive summary, or read responses to frequently asked questions by clicking on the previous links.
CLOUT member and LST reader Jay Hafemeister has forwaded us this email he received from Sen. Williams on June 29th, which we reproduce below in full:
Dear Mr. Hafemeister:
I support the constitutional spending caps contained in the Texas Constitution. I serve on the Senate Finance Committee, and am very cognizant of the caps and discussed this isue frequently with the Senate leadership and members of the Senate Finance Committee during the special session just concluded. As a member of the legislative branch, it is inappropriate for me to comment on the merits of this lawsuit while it is pending before the court.
Thank you for contacting my office and please feel free to do so at any time.
Sincerely,
Tommy Williams
State Senator, District 4

Can’t comment or won’t? He supports the spending caps but how did he vote? Anyone know?
WUSSY
More double speak…..
sounds about like they all got lessons in talking like he is doing
These guys and gals are all a bunch of bureaucrats who do nothing but figure up ways to spend other peoples money and get re-elected. They cant even answer a simple yes or no question without some frickin speech on what they want to say first.
“and am very cognizant of the caps and discussed this isue frequently with the Senate leadership and members of the Senate Finance Committee during the special session just concluded.”
Is that so? Why were so many people taken by suprise by this law suit and seemingly now aware of the law. discussed it - my big toe!
dewhurst, williams, ogden, janek and hill should be in everyone’s don’t vote for in ‘08.
Can we talk a “little sidestep?” Unfortunately, I think that is what CLOUT will be getting from our legistatures. Very few will have the twins to come out and support it.
scuse me, legislators!
#1 malcolm…That’s a funny joke…a vote on spending caps! You’re killin’ me! I guess its time to bug my representative now that we have my senator on record.
Another reason to vote against all incumbents in November — particularly RINOS
#9 Golden:
Go gettem’! There are very, very, very few incumbents that will get my vote come November.
Senator Williams also voted for the Perry-Sharp tax debacle.
His staff bragged to me about the substantial property tax cut we would be seeing, and the equally substantial franchise tax cut. (from 4% to 1%)
Senator Williams is on my $#!% list. I will not vote for him. I will work for his opponents whenever possible.
I want Republican office holders to move the opposite direction, fiscally, than Democrat office holders. Not the same direction, only slower.
Sen Williams,
If you or your staff read this site, you can add me and my wife to the list of those who will not vote for you on your next election cycle. Yes, we live in your district and will seek to have you replaced by a true conservative during the next primary season.
I cannot WAIT to vote against this piece of work in the primaries next time around. The same goes for my wife and mother.

Count me in there, too. And, don’t forget his buddies in the house. They need new jobs, too!
