These are two shining examples of failed American foreign policy. The one on the left is only 90 miles a way. The one on the right stole a billion dollars from the US taxpayers while his people starved.

  3. headshaker on August 1st, 2006 at 7:06 am

And we’re doing the same thing with guys like Chavez in Venezuela.

You wonder why I shake my head™

Fidel, Keith Richards, and cockroaches will never be successfully exterminated.

    Shakey, harumph.

Chavez,Iran,China and the other players are forming partnerships for the new 21st century energy consortium. They will be the players, not us. We have sold out our future to the Wal-Marts of the world.Once a great industrial power we are just a consumer of energy and cheap crap made in Chinese sweatshops. No offense to your supplier of bears. While this goes on our leaders sit on their 20th century hands and act like children. “Ohh we wont talk to you because we dont like your form of government” All the while we kiss Mexicos a$$ for some unknown reason.

Our leaders,Dem and Repub are sorry SOB’s who live behind some gate and have no idea what the future is.

Dang, when I made a crack about that old geezer Lanier needed to die when he passed out at the Lay funeral, you people chewed me a new one. Here you are wishing death on someone!! And yes, I know, this guy is nothing like Bob Lanier, but as my momma told me, people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, especially at me! HA

  7. fxdriver on August 1st, 2006 at 8:22 am

I don’t get all the partying going on in Miami. For one, he’s not dead yet, and for another, his brother gets to take over when (and if) he does. What makes them think anything is going to change just because Castro either dies or temporarily abdicates?

  8. The most skeptical SOB on the planet on August 1st, 2006 at 8:24 am

Maybe its because Lanier was the mayor of Houston and a asset in the community vs men who are responsible for millions of deaths of their own people. Do you see how we may have been confused?

  9. navymom on August 1st, 2006 at 8:43 am

Well, everyone has their own opinion. I am NOT comparing Bob Lanier to Castro by any means, but I was not a Lanier fan. (OH crap, I am gonna get blasted for that one, I bet!)

  10. Rorschach on August 1st, 2006 at 8:45 am

Why do I get the feeling his medical care will be quite a few notches above the horrific level of care that the average cuban will receive…

so much for a classless society….

I have tried to post my “Top Ten” list of captions twice, now. I give up for right now.

    Robert

Drop the \\\”p\\\” word. The iron fist of the Akismet censorship software got ya.

Yasser, he sure is a swell feller, even if he is an in-Fidel! I sure hope he wiped the pork fat off of his mitts before he shook hands with that camel molester. We can’t risk both of them being denied entry to paradise.

And yet, we keep re-electing them.
    Whose fault is that?
We have met the enemy and he is us.

  15. Robert on August 1st, 2006 at 10:53 am

Now that I have properly censored my “Top Ten” list of captions. I will now attempt a cleaner version:

    1) And they said our gay union would never work. We showed them!!!

    2) I am in full agreement with our trade pact—Cuban cigars for Arab head rags.

    3) When you assume room temperature, this is how you feel.

    4) Yassar, don’t worry, Cuban cigars don’t cause cancer.

    5) Yeah!! We make the best 1-2 punch as far as idiots go.

    6) Together, we can be a major thorn in the side of the Americans.

    7) With this super glue, we will be joined together forever.

    8) I think with the combining of our two armies, we can rule the world.

    9) Fidel, let me tell you how you can get foreign aid from the Americans.

    10) Fidel, take these marijuana seeds and plant you a new cash crop.

I hope these make it thru the censor.

  16. Willie on August 1st, 2006 at 11:35 am

This thread is in very poor taste and not worthy of LST.
C’mon guys, let’s elevate the world we live in, not sink to it’s depths.

  17. Definitely Blonde on August 1st, 2006 at 11:59 am

If he dies soon can we send a bottle of pig blood to place in his casket?

  18. Robert on August 1st, 2006 at 12:18 pm

    Willie,

What “thread” do you consider poor taste and what basis do you deem it not worthy of LST. A lot of the stuff I see can be considered “editorial” humor, sort of like the Crummyicle’s editorial page’s political cartoons. Sometimes people vent against those they dislike, like the two losers in this picture. Sometimes it is better to laugh than cry.

  19. dugger on August 1st, 2006 at 12:18 pm

I don’t think Fidel would care about pig blood, he’s not a muslim or Jew that I know about.

  20. headshaker on August 1st, 2006 at 1:09 pm

Willie, I agree. It’s becoming more and more common, have you noticed? Any idea why?

  21. Robert on August 1st, 2006 at 1:37 pm

Would somebody please tell me what Willie and Headshaker are referring to, so that we can or at least I can address their concern. Maybe there is no answer and that is the nature of the beast.

  22. Neocon on August 1st, 2006 at 1:42 pm

    Robert,

They are commenting on the “poor taste of THIS thread” to quote Willie in #16 - probably the title of this thread, “Hurry and Die Already.”

  23. KRAUT on August 1st, 2006 at 1:56 pm

    #9 Navymom,
Bob Lanier was a lot better than Lee. P. Brown.
All in all he is a good man!

  24. rj on August 1st, 2006 at 3:06 pm

Oh! poor babies, offended by the “Hurry and Die Already.”
    Grow up, you little weanies.
Hell! I wish they would spontaneously ignite, with all those around them, and turn into a pile of ashes.
This pix was probably at a UN America bashing expedition.

  25. Willie on August 1st, 2006 at 3:08 pm

    #22) neo:
Exactly. I am no fan of Mr. Castro nor of the recently deceased Mr. Arafat, but to label the thread “Hurry Up and Die Already” is crass and not worthy of a fine site like LST. I guess I’m just old-fashioned in that I miss the days of civility and good manners. Talk radio and the screaming “talking heads” of today (both of the Left and the Right) seem to have killed off those genteel ways. We now live in a world where loudness and crassness of speech have replaced intelligent discourse, as if volume and intelligence were inexorably linked.

  26. Willie on August 1st, 2006 at 3:11 pm

    #24) rj:
Man, do you ever attend a BHH? Let me know if you do and I’ll be sure to look you up and discuss this mano a mano. That’s reason enough to attend right there. So much for my own gentility, eh? :-)
    I wasn’t offended, merely disappointed.

  27. rj on August 1st, 2006 at 3:21 pm

    Willie;

Settle down there tiger. If you are truly disappointed, well I’ll try to not be so darn honest.
Are you sure that you want that mano a mono thing. I’ll bet way deep down you really don’t, but it sure sounds manly and almost threatning. Kinda reminds me of Miami vice.
    rj

  28. Willie on August 1st, 2006 at 3:30 pm

    rj:
Not a threat, merely an invitation to discuss your comments in more “depth”.

  29. headshaker on August 1st, 2006 at 3:30 pm

LOL now there’s the pot calling the kettle black.

  30. Robert on August 1st, 2006 at 3:36 pm

Willie, sometimes people write down or print something that others wish they had said or were thinking but just didn’t have the nerve to say or do. Considering what these two men were involved in and what they have done to their people, I don’t think this rises to the level of crass, offensive or even disappointing. It is an attention grabber or exploitative journalism. I consider my “Top Ten” list to be “editorial” captioning. I don’t think this is any worse than the Crummyicle’s editorial cartoons. I cannot do anything to these two men (although I wish I could) except exploit them thru humor.

And thank you, neocon, for explaining the concept of what a “thread” is. I learn something new today.

  31. Rahman Golddigger38 on August 1st, 2006 at 3:37 pm

Just like demise of “Z” did not change anything for better in Iraq, there is no reason to speculate different with the acession of Raoul to power.
    Cubans should delay their celebration.
understanding waving their flag but at the same time objecting Mexicans flying their , is double standard.
    So what is new?

  32. Rahman Golddigger38 on August 1st, 2006 at 3:41 pm

    # 31 Should read ‘accession’.
    Now that makes sense.

  33. Smacktle on August 1st, 2006 at 3:43 pm

Willie and rj, if you don’t like what is posted by
LST or any of the bloggers here, then you can always send a .02 check as a statement.

I remember rj complaining about the language around here. How is language any worse than saying KILL KILL KILL? Just wondering.

If Fidel keels over his brother takes over. Arafat
died and we get hamas (not hamous). Cuba will change when all of the old gaurd die out and some
younger people not prone to violence take over and
who knows when that may be.

  34. Willie on August 1st, 2006 at 3:44 pm

    #30) robert:
Let’s chalk it up to a strong difference of opinion. I just happen to think that the exact same point could have been made using a more dignified caption. Such a label does nothing but add to the general death of civility in our culture. Call me old-fashioned, but that’s my humble opinion.

  35. Willie on August 1st, 2006 at 3:47 pm

I guess you get what you pay for, although I surely don’t want the staff at LST labeling me as an A.S.S. (like they probably don’t already!).

    #37 Willie,

Oh, I know. But aren’t the Christian conservatives supposedly so much better than everyone else? That’s all I ever hear.

    Suggestion: Practice what you preach!

  39. Willie on August 1st, 2006 at 4:17 pm

    #38) HS:
Your suggestion (practice what you preach) is usually in short supply among us humans. I was always taught that those who talk about it are usually the ones that don’t live it.
Live a sermon, don’t preach one!
If I could make the little trademark thingy, I would trademark “LASDPO”!!!!!!
Not being a Christian myself, but having been raised as one, the answer to your question is not that they (Christian conservatives) are better, but that they are forgiven.
That sure does leave you a lot of room for “do-overs” after the fact.

  40. rj on August 1st, 2006 at 4:17 pm

    28;
Thanks, but no thanks. I prefer to spend my time with more gentile folks (friends). You know, the ones you aluded to as having “civility and good manners”.
I’ve commented many times on LST and have been in exact opposite opinions with some here. I’ve, I’m sure, been less than gentile with others but this is a first time I’ve been threatened on LST for being so. Even if it is vague and puropsely worded.
It’s MHO that you should retract your bravado and apologize to LST.

Boo hoo. Maybe you and sarge can get together alone and lament the lack of apologies you get.

  43. Smacktle on August 1st, 2006 at 5:01 pm

I apologize to LST for everything I’ve done.
Is LST human or borg? If one were to apologize
to LST does one bow down before the puter or
    a picture of Benzion?

RJ, I think you’re off base. Willie’s not a rabid commenter, and I didn’t interpret his comment as a threat. We all get together at the BrewHaHas™ and have a good time.

Truth be told, we don’t really discuss political stuff very much. It’s mostly just friends getting together, having a couple beers, banging on cowbells and putting teddy bears in compromising positions.

Wait, that doesn’t sound weird, does it?

  45. rj on August 1st, 2006 at 7:17 pm

ok! ok! ok, Guess I’m just a grouchey old fart.
I’ll try to,… well you know.
I’m home now, had a few drinks and things have toned down considerably, and taking a day of vacation tomorrow.
    No apologies.
