He doesn’t want his officers escorting a bus full of illegals coming into our sanctuary city. Makes him look bad. LMFAO.

To my knowledge, Metro Police have not been through the police academy and are not qualified as certified law enforcement officers. I may be wrong, but I believe when it was brought up years ago to put Metro in with real police, the policemens union objected vehemently.

Neo, they have NOT gone through HPD’s academy but they are certified LEO’s, just like any county constable.

I thought the job of a metro police officer was to monitor situations involving public transporation and traffic situations, not being involved in criminal activity since they did not go through the police academy training. I don’t believe they carry guns - at least I have yet to see one carry one. If I am mistaken, please correct me.

As Rorschach puts it, and I have researched it, they are certified LEO’s. HPD and other crime fighting services just don’t want METRO on the streets and don’t want to hook up with them to “fight crime.” Who would you call to a crime scene or a case of emergency, a Harris County Constable, Metro Police or Houston Police/Sheriff’s Department. You get a jist of where the true crime fighters come from. This is coming from an HPD family that has little respect for them, except public transportation, HOV lane violaters, etc.

Metro Police Officers are licensed police officers. They have all attended academies and are certified and licensed by TCLEOSE, the State oversight agency. Many come from different departments.

As licensed peace officers they have the sme rights, lights, priveleges, and duties as other law enforcement officers.

While the METRO system is their primary duty they enforce all state laws. This includes traffic, drug laws and others. They can stop you and give you a traffic citation, or arrest you if necessary.

And vlou they do carry guns and have there own Special Operations Reaction Team, along with drug dogs, bomb dogs, and patrol dogs.

The problem with the extra job was many faceted. First they were paid cash, and the employers did not even have their names.
Second those systems cater to the illegal aliens primarily.
Third in my own opinion, since Culberson is looking at the money for METRO, and his stance on immigration is well known, just maybe they didn’t want to upset him. But that’s just me.
