    gosh! will anyone take responibility?

to many government agencies for that.

  2. The most skeptical SOB on the planet on August 7th, 2006 at 10:01 am

The sound of outrage is deafening. You know damn well if this was happening under a Republican mayor and a white police chief there would be people in the streets protesting. But hey, we have nice stadiums.

  4. navymom on August 7th, 2006 at 10:04 am

    #2 Totally agree with you.

I would hate to see a chart for current times, now that we have all these new citizens from New Orleans among us! Bet that would be OFF the charts.

  5. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 10:18 am

Great! More fodder for Nodding Noggin’s “Houston Sucks” campaign.

  6. Jeremy Weidenhof on August 7th, 2006 at 10:25 am

Don’t forget those useful red-light cameras. I’m sure they can get a picture of the guy who just carjacked you and left you for dead on the side of the road. Then they can mail you a ticket!

Hey, it’s all about “safety” in this “world-class” town.

  7. Sherri on August 7th, 2006 at 10:25 am

It would be interesting to see other cities compared as well, such as Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas.

  8. DanielJames on August 7th, 2006 at 10:28 am

    Why dont ya’ll get honest?

    Blaming the police chief?

Too much blame not enough action from the locals.

    Houston Does Suck IMHO!

Sorry folks..I watched my neighborhood turn ghetto in five years. My neighbors sat on their duffs doing nothing.

  9. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 10:35 am

With all due respect Daniel, we’re still here. You “cut and run” ;-)

  11. Sherri on August 7th, 2006 at 10:37 am

I did some poking around. Look at the “rape rate” for Chicago.
    http://chicago.areaconnect.com/crime/compare.htm?c1=Chicago&s1=IL&c2=Houston&s2=TX

I have to doubt these stats now.

  12. Matt "Zilla" Bramanti, CPO™ on August 7th, 2006 at 10:39 am

I have to doubt these stats now.

They’re the official stats for the U.S. — compiled by the FBI. Sometimes, there are holes in the data. It’s not claiming Chicago had no rapes; it’s just that data for that crime were unavailable for whatever reason.

    I cut and ran!

I speak my mind and the truth. I am called a racist and a bigot. Most wont out of fear. The gov tried to put in section 8 housing on the corner of hwy 6 and Addicks Satsuma. The wife and I put door hangers on every door in Bear Creek. 100 people showed. I went to the border and did the watch for ten days..My wife and I block walked for Dan Patrick.

Your answer is vote them out.

Sorry man. While “most” sit on their duffs I was about action.

If half the people did a fraction of that these problems would not exist.

Apathy is killing America. My grilling fajitas joke is sadly really not a joke.

Go wax you car, buy that big house and live in a gated community (or out in cypress)and grill those fajitas.

We have discussed activism before. Well get active.

You wanna talk about cut and run? I walk the walk.

  14. DanielJames on August 7th, 2006 at 11:07 am

Terror is being perptuated on our streets daily.

The proof is in the numbers.

Sorry HJ…My last post may have seemed like a direct slamming on you. I was just venting.

I’m heading out the door. See ya’ll later.

  15. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 11:17 am

    #13 - I was speaking tongue-in-cheek.

You speak your mind, but its not necessarily the truth, its your opinion.

Your answer is vote them out.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but laws are passed by politicians we elect. If they pass laws we don’t like, our only recourse is to vote them out and vote people in that represent our interests.

Go wax you car, buy that big house and live in a gated community (or out in cypress)and grill those fajitas.

Sorry, I don’t live in a compound. I live in a modest house in a nice neighborhood with a large immigrant population just north of downtown. Its safe enough for my 95 year old neighbor (and all her friends) to get out and walk every morning and evening. I am a member of, and active in, our civic club. The civic club is all volunteer. We’ve been instrumental in controlling and getting rid of most crime problems. You don’t have to dress up in cammo and camp out on the border to make a difference. Lay off the sermonizing please.

Oh, I haven’t waxed my truck in about four years, but I do love me some fajitas.

  16. DanielJames on August 7th, 2006 at 11:25 am

HJ, Did you not see this in my last post?

Sorry HJ…My last post may have seemed like a direct slamming on you. I was just venting.

Venting.. OK? I just cant stand the blame game. I love action based answers.

Hopefully I will see ya at the Brewhahahaha.

You and I are supporting these freeks, we pay thier housing cost with our tax dollars (FEMA) they are usually on wellfare, and this is what we get in return for our hospitality. We took them in and now we are taken!

HOUSTON — A man was shot and killed in front of his wife after he refuses to give robbers money, officials told KPRC Local 2.

Houston police said Rolando Aguilar, 64, was killed at a car wash on Briar Forest Drive near Wilcrest Drive just before 6 a.m. Saturday.

Officials said Aguilar was washing the car when four black males approached him and demanded cash. Aguilar refused and an argument ensued, police said.

The gunmen shot Aguilar several times, police said. Aguilar died at the car wash.

Aguilar’s wife was inside the car and witnessed the killing, police said. She was not injured.

Police said the men are all black, in their 20s and have Jerri Curl hairstyles. Police said the men spoke with New Orleans accents.

Investigators said neighbors told them the car wash is a crime haven that is frequented by young Hurricane Katrina evacuees.

  20. Robert on August 7th, 2006 at 11:44 am

Maybe we can get the “Sports Authority” to build us a “state of the art” police department with all those tax dollars that have coming in. Or maybe we can get “Metro” to lay a rail line to get us out of predicament. After all, these two agencies are so wonderful at solving our most pressing problem, providing “world class” attractions, certainly they can solve a little crime problem.

  21. headshaker on August 7th, 2006 at 11:59 am

I have been validated! No, not violated!

Houston sucks, period, end of story!™

Seriously, I went to Willowbrook International Mall last nite, and we had to leave after just a few minutes because we weren’t sure if we were wearing the right colors. I saw Asian, Mexican, black, etc. gang-like warriors all over the place.

And they were all spending money! We went into FootLocker and shoes for kids were like $60 and up, and there they were scooping them up like they were free! WTF!

New cell phones, clothes, tattoos, piercings, etc. - where does the money come from? I mean, are they all selling drugs?

This is not America. Houston is a foreign country and I can’t wait to get the frig out!

  29. Matt "Zilla" Bramanti, CPO™ on August 7th, 2006 at 12:36 pm

I think that’s to distinguish it from statutory rape.

  30. headshaker on August 7th, 2006 at 12:37 pm

I believe statutory rape would be an example. A consenting 16-year old with someone over 18.

LOL, interesting, Matt beat me to it (no pun intended).

  32. The most skeptical SOB on the planet on August 7th, 2006 at 12:37 pm

    Neocon,
I guess date rape isn’t forcible if it involves alcohol and some degree of consent. Forcible is using aggravated assault to make the victim comply. Does that make sense?

My neighbor is a cop. He says a lot of the crime in the Cypress,Hwy 6 Copperfield,Fairfield area is the pukes from Prairie View coming down 290 into town. When they catch them shoplifting at the Super Wal-Mart it seems thats where they are coming from.

Everybody is a bigot to some extent, even the Pope.

We live in The Woodlands and it’s predominately white. I have Indians on my left and Chinese on
my right and they are good people.

Last Christmas I put up a lighted train in my yard and it was gone in a few days. My neighbor down the street had his house broken into, luckily the alarm scared him away. I’m a gun owner now, never had guns before, except for the BB variety.

Things are getting worse in Houston and there is always a certain element that is worse than the rest and someone doesn’t have to be a bigot to notice who they are. I’m nervous when I go downtown to games now, when I wasn’t before.

Our kids are not getting better, they are getting worse. Parents aren’t raising future men and women, they are not raising at all.

I used to be a proud Houstonian, but now I thank God I’m not.

Once I saw that the apartments I lived in then were going ghetto, I got the hell out! Now I have a nice house in the far northwest woods…. Praise Jesus….

I honestly mean no offense to the good christian ghetto people - it’s not you! It’s your friends! They scare the hell out of me!

It’s simply a matter of survival…. I don’t want to get popped when I go to wash my damn car!

  51. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 1:29 pm

But according to some here, since his name was “Rolando Aguilar” it must have been a drug deal gone bad.

  52. damifino on August 7th, 2006 at 1:46 pm

#33 Just cause you associate a person with dressing like a thug, walking like a thug and talking like a thug does not make a person a bigot. It is an observation and an opinion at the least. I guess we can use a better choice of words, they look like rappers. We’ll use 50-cent as the rapper example. He praises drug dealing, using women as objects, shootin’ up their ‘hood or the people that live it. Oh and all of this is “Thug Life”. Hrrmmm… I guess 50 cent is a bigot too if he equates this to be ing Thug Life. I forgot when we were told we have to accept all others. Allowing them to do want the want is their business, but I do not have to accept what they do. So add me to that bigot list. I am just a right-wing, racist, Christian honkey, whiote crackah who don’t know nuttin but playing my whiskey jug leaving with my extended family in a trailer dealing crystal meth…

  53. damifino on August 7th, 2006 at 1:51 pm

#50 That car wash is just south of the Walnut Bend neighborhood. Property taxes were frozen this year due to the increase violence coming from the apartments across the street and down on Briar Forest. Mayor Dumb and Police Chief Dumber could give a rats ass. They should put those Katrina folks up in their neighborhood. While their at it, they should put the Wham-Bam tram west on Dallas, south on Kirby, west on San Felipe and north on Post Oak. They should tear that Williams Waterfall and put a station right there.

  54. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 2:07 pm

#52 damifino - The difference is 50 cent is a thug and lives his life as such. The point I’m making is that the asian/black/mexican kid (notice shakey left out white) walking through Willowbrook Mall may or may not be a thug. Shakey made the assumption that he is a thug based on his looks. My #33 was made to point out (obviously unsuccessfully) the absurdity of making such generalizations. I know Shakey’s not a bigot, just like I know that every asian/black/mexican is not a drug dealing gangster.

Its a site to behold. Piggy back metros unload 100’s of PBF’s so we can have diversity.

  59. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 2:23 pm

Or why not just say “loser scumbags”? Look, in my neighborhood 80% of the criminals are hispanic. They’re not criminals because they’re hispanic but because 80% of the population is hispanic. In the early 80s I lived in Spring, which was 95% white. Guess what? 95% of the criminals were white, including the ones that stole $8000 worth of my muscial equipment and burned my house down trying to cover their tracks. They didn’t look like thugs either.

I’ll just add this to the mix. Call me wrong if you want, but if ANYBODY (white, black, green, whatever) dresses like a thug (the classic ‘ghetto gangsta’ look) and otherwise acts the part, I am going to be wary of them. They may well be straight A student future leader of the country, but the numbers say they’re not.

Sure, the occasional “normal” person-turned-mass-murderer crops up, but not that often.

My daughter rented “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” the other day (starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) over my objections.

    BIG Mistake

There is nothing about the music, the dress, the lifestyle, even the ‘wannabes’ that have any redeeming value in my mind. That was enough to even turn me off of “Christian” hip-hop music…

  82. damifino on August 7th, 2006 at 5:00 pm

#54 We all know that everyone who dresses and acts like thugs may not necessarily be thug (walk the walk). Either way, I can choose to listen to my conscience which tells me to stay clear of those folks or we could listen to your conscience which says something like, \”those are just misundertsood kids emuluating role models like 50-Cent and Snoop Dogg\”. I rather be labeled a bigot for excercising caution than to be a fool be allowing my heart to bleed over. The other Saturday MTV aired a satire named \”Where My Dogs At?\” which had a cartoon figure that looked like Snoop Dog walking two black women on leashes into a pet store. At the end of the \”parody,\” they did a potty poo poo all over the floor. MTV\’s President, Christina Norman, allowed this to be aired at 12:30 pm - you know to compete with School House Rock and Cartoon Network. Go ahead label everyone a bigot because we rather be safe than sorry. Also a bigot is someone who stands fast to their beliefs even when these views are challenged or proven to be false. Explain to me how thug attire, attitude and actions are beneficial to society or to those who flaunt?

  83. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 5:20 pm

#82 - damifino: Once again, I didn’t label anyone a bigot, I typed “if it looks like a bigot…” to demonstrate how absurd it was to say such a thing, just like its absurd to say that all black/mexican/asian kids are gangsters.

#81 - Jimb, I understand what you’re saying but I’d bet there are many here among us who’s elders were not happy with our dress, haircut, choice of music, etc. and thought it was leading us down the road to ruin, and yet we turned out ok. Case in point, take a look at this thug. His parents just knew he was a long-haired, dope-smoking, hippie-type punk that would never amount to anything. I have it on good authority he turned out alright!

  87. headshaker on August 7th, 2006 at 5:44 pm

    #86 Hammie

You can’t compare today to when we grew up. There are so many more thugs/punks/degenerates/losers/scumbags/etc. who have no respect for anything, especially themselves.

They have been brainwashed by television and music to think that everything they do is “cool”. It’s cool to be disrespectful, it’s cool to have sex at 13, it’s cool to do drugs and drink, it’s cool to dress like an idiot, it’s cool to talk like an illiterate, it’s cool to pierce things God never meant to be pierced, it’s cool to plaster body art all over yourself. It’s even cool to kill for a lot of them. They’re immune to morality and conscience.

I could go on and on. Most of these people will never ever amount to anything. Their lives are one big party, and when they wake up it’ll be too late for most of them.

#87 - Sure you can. My parents generation said the same thing about my generation and their parents said the same thing about them. Shakey, there may be a lot of kids the way you describe, and probably more than I’d like to think, but its not most of them. You’re over-generalizing. I know too many good kids to believe the way you believe. Hell, if that’s how you think go live in a damn cave, you buzzkiller.

  92. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 6:07 pm

The majority of drugs are bought and sold at upper middle class schools. Hard to believe, isn’t it?

Not really, because those kids have the jing to buy and use from the dealers wearing the bling and nice shoes.

  94. damifino on August 7th, 2006 at 6:17 pm

#91 When I was growing up, my pseudo celebrity musician role models did not tell me to treat my girl like a ho and beat down my fellow man because he wore certain clothes or had his neighborhood tatted all over his body. Back in the day, thugs stayed in their area of town, and you were the suscipious one if you entered. Now, kids emulatate them, and you do not know which ones are a serious threat as each one wants to one up the other guy.

Hammy, bet you rolled a few tight ones in your day huh! BTW, whats that stuff on top of your head?

  96. jimb on August 7th, 2006 at 6:26 pm

Hamous - The only thing I can say about #86 is this. When I was a kid and I looked like a long-haired, dope-smoking hippie-type punk, it is because I was. My mom was exactly right. I was on the road to hell. The only reason I didn’t wind up there early was by the grace of God, I think.

And nowadays, these ‘gangstas’ are way more dangerous than anything I ever got into, and they don’t just live in the ‘hood’. They’re in Copperfield and Stone Gate and Coles Crossing. They come in all colors.

People who go out of their way to look the part of a gangsta is who I am worried about, not just ‘people of color’ in general…

  97. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 6:39 pm

#93 - Donnie Darko, you can crawl into a cave and whimper but in the real world things are better than you paint them:

Overall teen drug use also continues to decline. Trend analysis for youth current use of any illicit drug from 2001 to 2005 among 8th, 10th and 12th graders shows a drop of 19 percent. This translates into nearly 700,000 fewer youth using illicit drugs in 2005 than in 2001.

#94 - damifino, don’t get me wrong, I’m not sticking up for gangstas. Its a disgusting lifestyle. MTV is v-chipped out of my house and gangsta rap music is banned.

#95 - Tbone, I ain’t gonna lie to ya. I was not a good kid for a few years there. Mostly self-destructive, but I got better. The hair? It’s still there but its just “little hair”.

  98. headshaker on August 7th, 2006 at 6:45 pm

    Hammie,

You’re arguing a different subject. I didn’t say anything about overall teen drug use.

    Nice diversionary tactic. Typical neo-conservative!!!

    :)

  99. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 6:47 pm

Jimb, I just think that, like you and me, there is still redemption for those kids. Isn’t that what its all about? Just because they’re dancing on the sidewalk alongside the road to hell doesn’t mean they’re going down it. Had the adults in my life given up on me back then I would probably be dead now…which would make it pretty freaky for you guys reading my posts ;-)

They’ve brung death and misery to each city that took them in….

  109. gtotracker on August 7th, 2006 at 7:59 pm

Not trying to win a story contest, just whining.

Break-ins and theft has always been a problem around Scott and Leeland. Every two or three years a burglery. Last Easter of 05, before Katrina, the invasion began. The winos and bums broke the front door down and the alarm system failed. For two days the local crackheads wandered in and took what they could carry and sold it to people filling up at the gas station.
The only thing they did not take was a computer monitor. Too much space in the grocery cart for the value of goods to be sold I guess.

Five more break-ins over the next two weeks followed. We changed alarm companies, added wire on the fences, and spent several nights in the building. Even bought a cop shotgun which I did not want. Hated to spend that kind of money on a gun I cannot use for hunting. But never picked the right night.

We are not far from the guy who plugged a thug near Minute Maid Park. Glad I did not. The deceased will be somebody’s dearly departed and some sympathetic lawyer will help seek compensation. One of the neighbors had a burgler in is sights and decided the grand jury and other hassles were not worth it. Shouted at him to go away. Three weeks ago somebody backed a Lincoln Navigator through his gate, took three tries to break it down, and stole a trailer. Has it on tape from a security camera.

Every business on this block had their air conditioning compressor units dissassembled for the aluminum. That did not stop until the thieves stole from the HISD schools. HPD found a way to stop that.

I live in Sugarland where the fajitas are cheap and I get a discount on wax for my car. The daily commute is bad enough. But going back to town to open the gate for the cops at 2:AM, having only quit drinking Rolling Rock two hours prior, got to be a drain.

And the cops. What a moody lot they are. One berated me for allowing this to happen and support crackheads’ habits. That caught me way off guard, had no reply. Just stared and wished my dog would bite him. But they have a lousy job. There is only one cop per car. HPD keeps the number of patrols up by making these guys and gals drive solo. I don’t care how many guns and radios some orginization equiped me with. No way I would go where they do when they do. Having seen this, I may bitch about the speeding ticket but respect the individual officers a lot. HPD and its’ use by CoH is another story.

The source of our troubles were winos and bums living in cardboard camps under the Scott and Cullen street overpasses. I wanted to doze their village into the street except for the chance one of the bums would be in is hut. And squished. These bums ain’t worth much on the hoof but will break you dead. The State of Texas eventually forced these guys to move on.

We discovered internet cameras where we could watch the office from the home computers. I told my son I would pay him $100 if he saw somebody break in. One night while he was doing homework after I had retired (RR); DAD! DAD! somebody broke in! Sure enough there was sombody on the camera. Called the cops,my brother for a change went to open the gate, and my wife, son, and myself watched the show.

The cops showed up one by one and surrounded the block. Caugt somebody with a car not belonging to them, or about to not to belong them in the process. They waited for the K-9 officer to arrive. In went in old Rin Tin Tin and the cops followed. They brought the perp out a few minutes later. One of the officers filling out a report wanted to talk to me, my brother handed him his cell phone. “Where are you?” “Look at the box on the pole over your left shoulder…”

Thanks for an outlet to vent. And yes, I paid gameboy the reward.

It’s our government DJ, unless you really are an anarchist.

Yeah, its a vast Bush conspiracy to hide the real drug use in America!

Drug use is at an all time high!

Back it up with facts, bubba. Just saying it don’t make it so.

  114. KRAUT on August 7th, 2006 at 8:58 pm

Among other things, I told you that they will clamor for higher taxes in order to hire more cops.
Do you remember a while back where a bunch of misinformed residents voted to build 3 new sports stadiums for the price of over a BILLION $$$$ ?
remember they said it’s not costing the taxpayers any money? OH YEAH!!! a tax is a tax and all this stadium money could have been used to hire more cops! The biggest farce in all this is the claim that they wanted to build a World Class City, say what? This stupid little train falls in the ridiculous category too. Why don’t we ever hear “Welfare for the rich”? when we talk about the Sports team owners and the few of the rich, well connected people who run this city into the ground?

  115. Neocon on August 7th, 2006 at 9:03 pm

    Mr Johnson

I agree with DanielJames. I don’t think DJ is an anachrist. Drug use IS at at an all time high (pardon the pun). The drugs imported from Mexico goes somewhere and me thinks into the US to feed US drug needs. If there were no US drug needs, the drug trade would trickle down to nothing.

  116. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 9:19 pm

Show me facts Neo. What are you basing that statement on? I provided facts from the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the best anyone has come up to refute it is “Your government is lying to you”. If I’m wrong, prove it to me. That’s all I’m asking.

  117. gtotracker on August 7th, 2006 at 9:21 pm

    Neocon

Check the Houston Business Journal. Fingers is leaving a 14 acre ware house facility for Sugarland.

Perry Homes is solving our problem by building over the vacant lots. Remaking old warehouses into loft apartments.

Three of our major vendors are here where the guys can pick up material on their way out. As bad as things are here, they ain’t much better else where.

  118. Neocon on August 7th, 2006 at 9:32 pm

    Mr. Johnson

I just said that drugs were increasing. This can be seen through several sources. I’m not going on an all night research project. If you want to claim victory, great! I never said the government was lying to you. You came up with that on your own. Do you not understand that drug trafficking is increasing? I’m not laying the blame at anyone’s feet (hispanic, since you are so sensitive to them). But it is happening.

  119. Hamous Johnson on August 7th, 2006 at 10:02 pm

I never said the government was lying to you. You came up with that on your own.

Neo, wrong. Look at DJ’s #110. He said the government report I presented as evidence was a lie. I’m not trying to claim victory in anything. You can’t just throw out a statement like “drug use is increasing” as fact and not back it up, particularly when there is documented evidence to the contrary.

I’m not laying the blame at anyone’s feet (hispanic, since you are so sensitive to them).

WTF does that mean? I don’t recall singling out hispanics in this discussion.

Ok, I’ll come clean. My parents were illegal immigrants from Mexico and I’m an anchor baby (and catholic to boot!) I really have no right to be here. The gubmint bought my house for me. Its really quite nice. Six bedrooms, four baths. But only a two car garage which holds my dropped Hummer with 20 inch rims that light up and a BMW. The rest of my broken down cars (none of which have insurance) are in the yard or on the street. I live here with my second wife and 10 children (the first wife is still back in Guadalajara with my first 10 kids; I send them my welfare checks), Sancha, 15 Aunts and Uncles, and 45 cousins. We sit out on our front porch drinking beer and whistling (in spanish of course) at all the purty white women walking down the street. We are usurping your tax dollars and there’s nothing you can do about it. ’scuse me, got a drug deal to attend to wit my homeys.

    ¡Orale Vatos! ¡Vamos cruisin!
