Something else occurred to me in that Chronicle editorial. Check this out:
Instead of serving the citizens of Houston, the union is engaged in a fear-mongering campaign that will damage the image of the city, frighten visitors and unnecessarily alarm residents and suburban neighbors. As statistics have shown, the rise in crime in the city is limited to the most violent categories and is geographically restricted to a few hot spots, primarily crime-ridden apartment complexes.
An increase in the most violent crimes is supposed to be a good thing? Yeah, chainsaw murders and gang rapes are way up, but home burglaries are only modestly up! Success!
The editors of the Chronicle are basically echoing convicted crackhead and former D.C. mayor Marion Barry:
Outside of the killings, DC has one of the lowest crime rates in the country.

That’s because all the staff live outside the City limits and do their work on computors from home. Crime? What crime?
The Crummyicle probably took a poll of their staff and found no one was a victim of crime so therefore the city must be in about the same level. Drawing conclusions thru “rose color glasses” kind of defeats the purpose of the poll.
Methinks the editorial board of the Chron been sniffing too large a quantity of printing fumes.
“Hey, it’s just those poor people in apartments killing each other! Why should we care!?”
How are they kidding? Crime is up everywhere and not all of it is ever publicized. Don’t kid yourself and stop reading the liberal media’s quirky and not factual comments.
The rise in crime is limited to the MOST VIOLENT CATEGORIES. How comforting. The Union has called public attention to a REAL problem. The Comical should be encourging the city to respond by doing what is necessary to correct the problem instead of blaming the union for making it visible.
That should be….Who are they kidding? Sorry, the grammar police just got me.
If they are so afraid of damaging the image of the city why don’t they try to do something about the crime.
Crime is crime whether serious or non-serious.
Steal a bike from a 5 year old, granted it is non-serious but ask the little boy how badly he feels hurt!
OF COURSE the crime is lower while the murders are up. The criminals are killing each other.
