But he has yet to escape the fallout from his statements last week that Houston is full of “crackheads and thugs” who were Hurricane Katrina evacuees.
Gov. Rick Perry during an appearance at a San Antonio elementary school called Friedman’s comments “pretty shocking statements.” And the Texas Legislative Black Caucus issued a statement saying Friedman lacks “human sensitivity.” [snip]
Perry said the state opened its arms to the people of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city. He said Texans showed compassion.
Friedman spokeswoman Laura Stromberg said Perry can talk, but Friedman housed a Katrina evacuee for six months.
“Governor Perry can go on and on about being good neighbors and good human beings, but Kinky opened his own home,” Stromberg said.
Black caucus chair Rep. Senfronia Thompson said Friedman’s “crackhead” talk insulted blacks.
“To single out a largely African-American population from one urban center as the source of all crime in Houston doesn’t just raise issues of race but of his own character as well,” Thompson said. “He would do well henceforth to highlight his compassion while de-emphasizing his redneck tendencies.
After making his comment last week, Friedman said many of the evacuees are good people, but he said the criminals who stayed behind are causing disproportionate problems in Houston.
Stromberg said Thompson’s criticism of Friedman reflected a politician who is more worried about “her constituency than with the violent crime affecting her community.”

It’s easy to defeat liberals intellectually when they display such a lack of critical thinking skills isn’t it? Unfortunately, they have political correctness on their side.
I’ve been harping on that theme (critical thinking skills) for the last two days. To me, the ability to separate BS from logic is one of the most valuable tools there is.
I play mind games with my kids in that regard. I’ll purposely make some outlandish or self-contradictory statement and wait to see how long it takes them to say, “hey, wait a minute…”. They’re getting pretty good at recognizing illogical statements even at their young age.

When Kinky said ‘crackheads and thugs’ why do these hacks jump to the conclusion he means blacks? Anyone who wants can park at the Shell station at Scott and I45 and see crackheads and thugs wander by all day. They come in all colors.
