Personally, I think this is a pretty slick plan by Patrick to drive down the Clear Channel behemoth’s ratings!

And masterfully executed at that! :)

  2. Robert on September 18th, 2006 at 10:18 am

When your No. 2, you always try to steal No. 1’s people. That’s competition and the free market system at work, Chris sold his services to the highest bidder but not necessarily the best bidder. Wouldn’t we all, but now a days you have to look over the “whole” package like benefits and integrity before changing ships. Competition makes for a better product.

  3. Dave D on September 18th, 2006 at 10:19 am

Kevin, I have to agree, listening to Begala was a lot like finger nails on the old blackboard.

  4. Rastus on September 18th, 2006 at 10:25 am

Good place for him to be. If it weren’t for Rush, they would be underwater by now, and now that he’s gone, I can listen to KSEV more often.

  5. RidgeRunner on September 18th, 2006 at 10:25 am

It was nice to hear Chris this morning instead of Grey. I sometime listen to KPRC until the SUN DRIES UP all the static on KSEV. Dose this mean that the “Three Amigos” are just “TWO BUDS”

  6. Neocon on September 18th, 2006 at 10:30 am

    Kevin and Dave D:

I agree on Begala. I think KSEV will be better off without him.

  7. JohnRH on September 18th, 2006 at 10:32 am

So David - does this mean we may be hearing more of your dulcet tones on KSEV?

Yes. It’s about time Dan dangled a six figure check in front of rabbi Benzine for a three hour show. No more quack doctor shows!!!

  9. No Higher Tax on September 18th, 2006 at 10:45 am

He is a closet liberal. I got so tired of hearing “disingenuous” I could scream. If it wasn’t “disingenuous” he didn’t know what to do or call it.

  10. stogusmaximus on September 18th, 2006 at 10:47 am

Now if we could get Edd to actually listen to the callers before disagreeing with ordismissing them, and if Dan would give the conservative voters/listeners the benefit of the doubt that they know how to vote race by race and quit worrying about down ballot judges, KSEV might actually be worth listening to again.

  11. JRB on September 18th, 2006 at 10:53 am

I agree on the quack doctor shows. They must pay a pretty penny to be on the air. If he would just find someone to replace the show after Edd in the morning, I’d be happy. She is getting as boring as Rush.

  12. Smacktle on September 18th, 2006 at 11:20 am

I could not stand Begala and turned to another
station when he came on. Too shrill for me!
I have enough shrill reading headshakers posts!

  13. tedtam on September 18th, 2006 at 11:33 am

Quack doctor shows fill in while the Rush steamroller is on. Why compete? Rush OWNS the airwaves during his showtime!

  14. Quicksilver on September 18th, 2006 at 11:36 am

Thanks, David, for clearing that up. I must admit I would prefer to hear you on the air than Chris Begala.

  15. raiderdav on September 18th, 2006 at 11:40 am

I don’t dislike Begala. He’s a bit of a name dropper, but you have to admit that he adds a lot of insight and has a ton of insider information. I’m not a big fan of his voice either, but its not like Bettencourt laughing through my 6 speakers on I-45 is very appealing. Just like with LST - I’m in it for the content (and the conservative tshirt ads).

  16. vlou on September 18th, 2006 at 12:08 pm

If all talk radio were one-sided, it would be totally boring. Be grateful for diverse opinions because they cause one to ponder.

#11 I agree…they need to find a replacement for that Dr. Laura as she is a pitiful bore and her voice is harsh and difficult to listen to. She needs to be taken off the air because she overdoses on her opinions.

I believe #11 was referring to Laura Ingraham, not Dr. Laura. I would agree with you about Dr. Laura — I can’t stand her. Laura Ingraham on the other hand I absolutely love. Different strokes and all that…

  18. Dave D on September 18th, 2006 at 12:19 pm

#15 raiderdav, I Agree about Bettencourt, he is a good guy, but please keep him off the radio. It’s bad enough that he talks like his shorts are too tight, but that Guffaws blows out my sub-woofers. I change the channel as soon as he comes on.

  19. asquires on September 18th, 2006 at 12:23 pm

I like to listen to Chris. KSEV is only a sunup to sundown station. The days are getting shorter so I don’t get to listen much. Besides, I don’t give a fig what happens to Houston. Ya got what ya voted for.

  20. Dave D on September 18th, 2006 at 12:26 pm

#17 Neocon,…say it aint so! This is the first time we’ve disagreed. I’ve not listened to Dr Laura in a long time but I always admired what she stood for and I liked the way she always told the listeners how the cow eats the cabbage.
I guess it is different strokes. ;=)
Laura Ingram is great. I hope she gets over her cancer.

  21. donwindav on September 18th, 2006 at 12:29 pm

What is up with the Chris Begala bashing I enjoyed Chris very much.its a shame Dan couldn’t find him a permanent slot. I’m sure he will do fine at KPRC
    I will be listening.

I listened to her years ago and really enjoyed her show and I appreciated her values. I just get tired of hearing the same old thing.

With Laura Ingraham, on the other hand, you never know what to expect. I enjoy listening to her sound bites and her humor in infectous. It is a break to me from the all too serious programs now on the air.

  23. The most skeptical SOB on the planet on September 18th, 2006 at 12:37 pm

its ok Chris is gone. Now I can start listening faster.
BTW, cant listen to Ingram anymore. All she does is cackle and play sound effects. Sounds like a FM morning show routine.

  24. Uncle Charlie on September 18th, 2006 at 12:42 pm

I like listening to Chris as well. If this means that there’s more of Chris and less of Pat Gray, then I’m happy.

  25. Dave D on September 18th, 2006 at 12:49 pm

I have a question, is Rush still good? I haven’t been able to listen to him since I moved to this building in 2002, AM can’t make it through the concrete and steel. I like Savage but he doesn’t like anyone, hates Limbaugh.

  26. Jaime on September 18th, 2006 at 12:58 pm

When Edd talks about local/State issues, he is great, unbeatable. He is a fish out of the water on other issues.

Begala I could only listen for a little bit.

KSEV could use a show with a more libertarian / paleo-conservative oriented host. This would provide a challenge to much of choir. As another host used to say, a host greatly assisted by a once-time somewhat libertarian guy, “as iron sharpens iron …”

BTW, I began listening to KSEV in March or April 1989. The first time I ever called a talk show was to talk to Ed Brandon.

  27. JohnRH on September 18th, 2006 at 1:02 pm

26 - Great idea - a Libertarian would be interesting!

  28. jphilb on September 18th, 2006 at 1:18 pm

Do not lose Laura Ingraham. She is the best. Now, since KVCE has Neal Boortz, maybe Dan can entice him over from FM 97.5 and run him in the afternoon from 2-4.
And I remember when Edd started sub hosting for Jon Matthews. It took quite a while for me to get used to Edd. Now he is one of my favorites.

And you can check out Boortz at boortz.com. Neal’s Nuze is a must read in the morning. And he is a Libertarian. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

  29. Al Williams on September 18th, 2006 at 1:20 pm

    a Libertarian like Boortz?

sure… i can imagine the calls Dan and Edd would get… “that SOB and his (insert issue here)… I’m never listening to your station again!”

Or, someone like Liddy? he didn’t last long… you wacko religious Tally-ban types got him shot down… LOL

  30. Kyle on September 18th, 2006 at 1:39 pm

    Chris at KPRC: “In–CREDible.”

And to echo RidgeRunner’s question, will he still be part of the Friday amigos? Between Chris and Paul, poor Ryan (the best speaker of the group, IMHO) can never get a word in edgewise.

It is hard for me to listen to the Three Amigos. They talk all over Ryan, especially Chris and the Democrat judge. Chris just loves to hear his voice. Ever notice that when he is on he doesn’t take very many calls? I tried to call him several times, but just hung up after 30 minutes of his blathering. Besides, I couldn’t stand the way he enunciated every word like the listeners were too stupid to understand what he said unless he said it very slowly. I’m glad Chris is gone! Ryan needs his own show on Friday afternoons. Oh, and I’m going to miss Jerry Doyle, replaced with a diet show of all things!

  32. Jaime on September 18th, 2006 at 1:54 pm

I would not mind having Professor Gerald Treece to have a time slot, at least once a week, to discuss Constitutional issues and history; more than the too-short conversations with Dan.

Every time I hear Prof. Treece I want to call and ask him a question or two and leaves too many issues floating and undiscussed.

  33. Neocon on September 18th, 2006 at 2:02 pm

I agree! I would listen every day to Prof. Treece.

  34. glynne on September 18th, 2006 at 2:43 pm

Well, might as well throw my 2 cents in.

Begala and KPRC deserve each other. Read into that what you will.

    Laura Ingraham I love.

Edd is….well OK. Can drag things on a bit though.

As for Rush, I have not listened to him since around 1999. That’s when I thought he “jumped the shark”. When I’m listening to radio between 12 noon and 3 pm, I’m listening to Clark Howard off that fancy internet thing.

  35. Dave D on September 18th, 2006 at 3:35 pm

#30/#31 Kyle, Neocon,…”blathering” That’s what I thought about him to, talk about beating a dead horse, he’d get on a subject and go on and on until I’d just chage the dial, sometimes I’d come back later and he’d still be saying the same thing,..BORING!
    I too, like Treece.

  36. Neocon on September 18th, 2006 at 4:51 pm

    Dave D

See? We are still agreed! Haven’t broken that record yet! ;)

  37. Neocon on September 18th, 2006 at 7:51 pm

Thank God and Greyhound he’s gone!

  38. Birdlady on September 18th, 2006 at 10:45 pm

    Oh no! Jerry Doyle gone?
    What are they THINKING?

On my break, that was the ONLY radio show worth listening to….good grief! At 101 #, I don’t need a diet show………arghhhhhhhh
