I knew it would either be an illegal or a Katrina evacuee. Perhaps now HPD and the City will get on with doing what they need to do to get rid of this scum.

  2. dcgirl on September 22nd, 2006 at 12:51 pm

I don’t understand why we just can’t deport people simply because they are here illegally. AND to top it off, this guy has been a repeat offender and they STILL let him stay here? Someone needs to be brought to task for this shameful policy. When are the libs going to realize that the illegals are doing much more harm than good.

  3. txcapofficer on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:07 pm

This person defintely does not belong in our society. At the very least he should have been deported or put in jail. It is sad that it may take the death of one of “Houston’s finest” to force a change in how illegal aliens are handled in Houston and Texas.

  4. The Dude on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:13 pm

While I wouldn’t be surprised if Quintero is an illegal immigrant, I can’t find any confirmation of that. A lowlife scum beyond doubt, but if he is an illegal immigrant and the media knows it, they aren’t sharing that info anywhere I’ve seen.

  5. Wino on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:21 pm

Time for a little bit of rebellion within the HPD ranks? Their own are falling to this absurd non-policy.

Why not just start arresting illegals as citizen arrests and calling ICE themselves? If enough cops do it, there’s no way they can be disciplined. We’re short enough in manpower now, without disciplining them even more.

  6. Neocon on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:25 pm

    The Dude

I looked this guy up on the Harris County Justice Information Management System (JIMS). The system said the name did not appear. Now this is a system where I can find anything that has been filed, whether civil or criminal. Seems this guy is using an alias.

  7. Rorschach on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:26 pm

#4, Dude, I modified the post to clarify that KTRH is reporting this, but has not updated their website accordingly. They did not name any of their sources, only that “their sources tell KTRH…”

#5, we were just as short of people when they canned Tom Nixon merely for speaking out of turn. What makes you think that the staffing level problems will deter them?

  8. Lawrence C. on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:26 pm

Where will the family of this fine officer find their “sanctuary”? Control the border, deport the miscreants, abandon sanctuary policies, force Mexico to the table on this issue, English only, implement a plan that deals with the remaining illegals that involves 1) suspension of benefits 2) public service 3) suspension of further legal immigration until the current population is effectively assimilated(this may take decades). Someone in this country is going to have to take on the ACLU if we ever expect to deal effectively with this issue. I don’t believe for a minute that we can deport 15 million illegals. We can systematically deport 3-5 million bad apples over time though. Anchor babies must also get the heave ho. Someone is going to have to come out publicly and make these kinds of statements, survive assassination and move to get it done.

  9. The Dude on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:28 pm

    Thanks, Ror.

  10. bigjolly on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:29 pm

I’m listening to Chris Baker on KTRH as I type this, if the guy isn’t an illegal alien, Mr. Baker is going off the deep end. He seems 100% certain.

  11. The Dude on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:39 pm

I can’t really listen to the radio at work, so I’m pretty well dependant on the internet for info. I occasionally listen to streaming, but not often as I try to not be a “bandwidth hog”. I’m about to make an exception. Thanks for the info folks.

  12. Al Williams on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:41 pm

they arrest illegals, then deport them.

a few weeks later, the illegals come back.

that’s why i said in another post that if the perp is found to be an illegal, he needs to be executed on the spot.

  13. Rorschach on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:41 pm

#6, how long does it take for stuff to get entered into the system? The rap sheet might not be from Harris County. Would it show that too?

  14. bigjolly on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:44 pm

    #12

Statements like that are exactly why people brand those of us against illegal immigration as racist nazis.

We can deport people and keep them out. It isn’t that hard, we just need to do it.

  15. Big45Iron on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:44 pm

Perhaps now when they capture an illegal, they can call Chief Hurtt or Mayor White to come transport the perp.

  16. jphilb on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:46 pm

#12 If you deport this guy in a C-130 and push him off the back ramp when you cross into Mexico, he won’t come back.

  17. bigjolly on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:46 pm

Can’t call Hurtt, it would be a violation of the illegals rights to remain in custody while Chief Hurtt flew in from Phoenix.

  18. Rorschach on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:54 pm

Guess what he got for molesting a five year old THREE TIMES. Three years of Deferred Adjudication….

  19. Neocon on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:54 pm

    The Dude

I tried JIMS again and pulled this guy up. Seems he has five priors and now capital murder charge will filed against him today. His appointed attorney has already filed motions on his behalf.

  20. bigjolly on September 22nd, 2006 at 1:57 pm

Just thought of this: the Mexican consulate will have to be given access to this piece of human debris before he can be given the death penalty.

It is all on the system now. That was probably why I couldn’t pull him up earlier. Tell me what you want to know.

  22. Rorschach on September 22nd, 2006 at 2:04 pm

I don’t want specifics, there might be liability issues, but I would like to know if there is any evidence that he had ever been referred to ICE for deportation. Was all of his offences in Harris county? KTRH is reporting that his rap sheet goes back to 1995.

  23. The Dude on September 22nd, 2006 at 2:05 pm

Well… I heard it for myself. I’m just sick over this.

  24. Maltboy! on September 22nd, 2006 at 2:12 pm

#14 - What do you think would happen to you if you snuck into Mexico and committed a bunch of crimes and then shot a Mexican policeman?

  25. Rorschach on September 22nd, 2006 at 2:14 pm

The mexican police would not bother arresting me, I’d be shot by a throwdown gun and left in an alley somewhere. The mexican cops aren’t above acting as judge jury and executioner when the mood suits.

  26. bigjolly on September 22nd, 2006 at 2:17 pm

    #14

As Rorschach says in 25, I would be left in an alley. But I don’t live in Mexico. And don’t want to. And don’t want their values.

Nothing listed about being referred to ICE, but it may be that they don’t list this on JIMS. What KTRH and the Chron are reporting is true. He has 5 priors plus this capital murder one. The latest, indecency with a child, was in 1999.

Now is the time for all of us to write every elected official from the local level up to the President and demand an end to “sanctuary” policies anywhere in the United States.

  32. CRK on September 22nd, 2006 at 2:52 pm

Gee I bet Carol Alvarado doesn’t stick up for this a$$hole. BTW…. I was talking to someone in Phoenix this morning and after asking him if they wanted their pohleese cheeefe back, asked him about their red light cameras. He said that in Scottsdale they now have speeder cameras too. I think it’s on the 101. That’s what’s next for us I’m sure. This cop killer/pedophile would most surely have been apprehended by strategic placement of red light cameras though if we had enough of them right???????

  33. hamous on September 22nd, 2006 at 3:19 pm

It will be interesting to see what Councilmember Adrian Garcia has to say about the city’s sanctuary policy now. He’s a former HPD officer and has a bunch of brothers who are cops as well.

  34. The Deacon on September 22nd, 2006 at 3:27 pm

To all you crooked business owners and politicians out there that utilize and exploit illegals: you should be ASHAMED for what happened to this fine police officer, husband, father, and American hero. A man who gave his life to protect all of us every single day. You remember Officer Rodney Johnson the next time you look at your P&L statement or count your votes in the next election. How many more innocent American citizens have to die at the hands of illegals?

  35. vlou on September 22nd, 2006 at 3:42 pm

If this does not get national attention on why we need to CLOSE THE BORDER, then it is pointless. The Feds need to do something NOW!!

  38. joebexar on September 22nd, 2006 at 4:18 pm

The guy’s wife said that he was deported once before. But, he came back into the country, illegally.

Call your politician(s) to voice your discontent. Also, stop supporting the business that profit from illegal alien labor. If this means leaving your bank, then open an account at a local credit union. If this means avoiding Wal-Mart, then do it. Avoid the grocery stores as much as possible. Shop Whole Foods or at a local co-op in the area.

You can be disgruntled all day long. However, politicians and big businesses continue to profit from our porous border with Mexico. Until you put your money where your mouth is, then nothing will change.

My heart goes out to Officer Rodney Johnson and his family.

Right On! (To all you crooked business owners and politicians out there that utilize and exploit illegals: you should be ASHAMED ….)

Question. What legal action will be taken against the landscaper/employer for hiring an illegal? Will it just be a slap on the wrist - or enough of a deterrent that other employers will think twice before hiring illegals?

  40. txcapofficer on September 22nd, 2006 at 4:52 pm

Someone needs to take this piece of human trash and deposit him in Phoenix so the great Police Chief Harold Hurtt can deal with him. How about a call to the Governor to see if he will finally do something about illegal immigration?

  41. Big45Iron on September 22nd, 2006 at 5:03 pm

Look, we can find precious few young Americans now willing to get out in the sun and actually sweat to work. I don’t have a problem with hiring these people. Make them legal - not citizens, and have them pay the taxes. Years ago I tried to find some kids to help me move at $10 an hour. Not a one of them showed up to actually work. I hired the illegals off th corner, after I carefully watched them. Who was dressed clean and neat, who wasn’t acting like a fool, and who actually had a few lines in their face and on their hands. Skilled labor in the trades is very difficult to find here. That’s because we’ve brought up a nation of children who don’t know what hard physical work is. They’ve never been bent over a shovel in the July sun all day long. They aren’t even made to mow the law or pull weeds…something we all did as kids. And it’s not the employer’s job to determine if they are here legally or illegally. It’s the government’s damn job to seal the border and keep it sealed.

All that being said, I like the idea of returning him to Mexico from 12,000 feet, arriving at a rate of 16 feet per second per second, etc.

  42. Kevin Whited on September 22nd, 2006 at 8:02 pm

According to Chris Baker, when he was arrested for molesting the little girl back in ‘99, they tried to arrest him and he ran in his pickup and led them on a chase reaching speeds of over 100 MPH, they were unable to find the child at the time and were afraid he had the girl with him (he did not apparently).

Wasn’t he talking about a different illegal alien in that instance? I thought he mentioned that one ended with a Harris County officer shooting the guy or some such. Hard to keep all these guys straight!

  43. Rorschach on September 22nd, 2006 at 8:11 pm

Kev, it is entirely possible I misheard that. I can’t say for certain, what I wrote was what I THOUGHT I heard. If I got it wrong, mea culpa.

  44. phil on September 22nd, 2006 at 8:51 pm

Well Slick Jorge says they all just come here to work and he always tells the truth.

His Operation Head in the Sand/What Me Worry Policy
is great for America. I heard Dan say when Laura Ingraham visited him in the White House, he just couldn’t believe that illegal immigration is the number one issue with voters and the people are fed up.

So let me get this straight. After six years of an unprecedented invasion, Slick Jorge is not aware there is a problem?

If that is the case he is as stupid as the libs say he is.

I agree with you about youngsters not wanting to do hard, physical labor. In my generation (I am 60) we all learned to mow (with a push mower even), weed, water and fertilize grass, plants, etc. We were not privileged although we were very well off, our family made us work and I am so glad they did. It was a job the whole family did and we took turns doing different things. Kids these days don’t want to get their “educated hands” dirty. They certainly don’t have any type of physical work ethic which is why this country will go to hell in a handbasket. We may be raising a more educated group, but someone has to do the hard physical labor.

I’m sending both email and snail-mail copies of all of this to both TX Senators and my rep - who is Ted Poe. I know how Poe feels. The “Gentleman and Lady” from Texas - neither is either - won’t necessarily change a thing . . . unless, we all fill up their email systems and inundate their staff with bags of mail. Send as much as you can to as many as you can. It’s time consuming, a royal pain, and may or may not accomplish anything. But doing nothing has gotten us the status quo.

  47. Immigrant on September 22nd, 2006 at 10:03 pm

The murder of Officer Johnson, and the fact that Quintero is an illegal, should not paint all illegals as criminals. I know there are those who will say that they are already criminals because they are here illegally. My only point is that murdering a police officer & being here illegally are two completely separate issues. It is like saying if there were no illegals in this country, then there would be no more murders. Total nonsense.

  48. Neocon on September 23rd, 2006 at 12:44 am

All illegals are here ILLEGALLY. Therefore, all illegals are criminals. Murdering a police officer and being here illegally are non-separate issues. If there were no illegals in this country, there would be a lot fewer murders.

  49. tom pogo on September 23rd, 2006 at 1:51 am

    #48 and all,

“If there were no illegals in this country, there would be a lot fewer murders.”

Come to think of it if there were fewer people who were here legally there would be fewer murders.

I heard Mr. Hendee on the show this morning discussing how we could show support for the police officers by donating to the 100 club. We keep hearing about how we need more police officers on the street. It takes money to do all this and the 100 club is just a drop in the bucket. We need to make sure that the cities and the counties have the funds they need to hire police officers.

Oh sorry, I forgot. The first priority is to lower our “unfair” taxes.

Several years back I hired a local Houston company to put in a deck. To my surprise, the two guys that showed up on time, ready to work, were two young white guys. These guys were professional all the way. They got the job done in one day, and the craftsmanship was top notch. In fact, much better than any other jobs done at my house by immigrant workers, and the price was reasonable. So, I don’t buy all this bunk about jobs that Americans won’t do. It’s just an excuse that crooked businesses use to exploit the illegals for profit. And yes, it is the responsibility of the employer to make sure they are hiring legal workers. It’s called an I-9.

First: Are you here LEGALLY or ILLEGALLY?

Second: Your argument is entirely beside the point. Point being that an ILLEGAL who was deported for sexual offenses was HERE - not in Mexico - and said ILLEGAL commited murder to avoid his just deserts - several years in a federal prison.

If the borders were closed - as they should be - people of this ilk would be screened out.

Finally: What part of ILLEGAL don’t you understand? If you are confused, I recomend Meriam Webster for clarification.

  53. Rorschach on September 23rd, 2006 at 11:16 am

according to a GAO report, 25 americans a day are killed by illegal aliens, so yes, there would be a lot of americans still alive had there been no illegals here.

That data is extrapolated from this 2005 report
    http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d05337r.pdf

  54. Immigrant on September 23rd, 2006 at 1:32 pm

52 - Are you here legally or illegally?

An Illegal Alien and a Cop Murderer are not the same thing. Quintero jut happens to be both! To lump all Illegals with this animal (Quintero) would be like lumping all those here on a visa (expired or not) with the scum who brought down the Twin Towers. Two totally seperate issues. That was my only point in my original comment.

On another note - I’m voting for either Kinky or Carol. I would even vote for Bell over Perry. I happen to be an (Independent)REPUBLICAN!

  55. Rorschach on September 23rd, 2006 at 5:26 pm

Who is Squawk? Why would he want to ban me? What outburst? And why are you watching me?

I heard a saying years ago and it went like this. “Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or self-confidence.”

I believe it is important for LST to get honest feedback on certain, hot issues. Immigration being one of them. A very complicated issue to say the least. I don’t believe it is in the best interest of LST to only receive comments from bloggers who only agree with one another.

The low-life animal who killed officer Johnson will be executed. The only sad part is that it takes way too long for this punishment to take place.

Rorschach - Since you have my e-mail address (gmail), write me. I would like to take you out to lunch and formally introduce myself. I did this a while back with Matt “Zilla” Bramanti and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had lunch at my favorite restaurant - Houston’s on Kirby. Bring Squawk along - I’d like to meet him as well.

Can it be confirmed the status of Quintero.
Date of convictions, Courts of record / deportation dates/
And most important, I hope HPD called the Mexician Counsul officer,
Capitol cases have to fill out all forms correct and in the correct order.

There are many days of work before trial.
Capitol case is more work than most.
The county will spend over $ 1 Million or more in legal fees before this is done, some years into the future, in a small town called Huntsville Texas

    Immigrant:

IMMIGRATION is not the issue here. People - of any ethnicity, who cross the either border illegally - is.

We enforce the law that says if you enter this country you must have LEGAL permission - or the whole country will literally go to hell in a hand basket. Harris County alone spends MILLIONS on illegals. What do you suppose is spent in the rest of the state - or in New Mexico - or Arizona - or California - - not to mention places like Memphis, Atlanta, Chicago, New York - you get the idea.

As long as illegals receive government help - paid for by you and me - they are a drain on our economy.

Remember the slogan “It’s the economy, stupid?”

I’d bet that you would be one of the first to complain if your job dissapeared because of an unstable economy.

It could happen if this FLOOD of illegals is not stopped!

I could not agree with you more.

I know that I don’t have the answer to this complicated issue, and it appears our elected officials don’t either; or at least so far they don’t.

The first thing I would like to see is our borders sealed off. Then, and only then, can we start dealing with the rest of the problem. First thing first.
