The NHMCCD board of trustees have been saying that the new bond proposal would not raise taxes. Let’s read through the originally proposed ballot language from the minutes of the August 14 2006 special meeting and see if we can verify that: (emphasis added)
PROPOSITION
SHALL THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF NORTH HARRIS MONTGOMERY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT (THE “DISTRICT”) BE AUTHORIZED TO ISSUE AND SELL AT ANY PRICE OR PRICES THE BONDS OF THE DISTRICT IN THE AMOUNT OF $249,600,000 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND EQUIPMENT OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS IN THE DISTRICT AND THE PURCHASE OF THE NECESSARY SITES THEREFORE, WHICH BONDS MAY BE ISSUED IN VARIOUS ISSUES OR SERIES, SHALL MATURE SERIALLY OR OTHERWISE NOT MORE THAN 40 YEARS FROM THEIR DATE, AND SHALL BEAR INTEREST AT SUCH RATE OR RATES, NOT TO EXCEED THE MAXIMUM RATE NOW OR HEREAFTER AUTHORIZED BY LAW, AS SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE DISTRICT WITHIN THE DISCRETION OF THE BOARD AT THE TIME OF ISSUANCE; AND SHALL THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES BE AUTHORIZED TO LEVY AND PLEDGE AND CAUSE TO BE ASSESSED AND COLLECTED, ANNUAL AD VALOREM TAXES ON ALL TAXABLE PROPERTY IN THE DISTRICT SUFFICIENT TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL OF AND INTEREST ON SAID BONDS AS THE SAME COME DUE AND THE COSTS OF ANY CREDIT AGREEMENTS EXECUTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE BONDS, PROVIDED THAT THE AGGREGATE BOND TAXES IN THE DISTRICT SHALL NOT EXCEED $0.50 ON THE $100 VALUATION OF TAXABLE PROPERTY AND PROVIDED THAT THE AMOUNT OF BOND TAX TOGETHER WITH THE AMOUNT OF MAINTENANCE TAX SHALL NOT EXCEED $0.80 ON THE $100 VALUATION OF TAXABLE PROPERTY; SAID BONDS TO BE ISSUED AND SAID TAXES TO BE LEVIED, PLEDGED, ASSESSED, AND COLLECTED UNDER THE CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS INCLUDING THE TEXAS EDUCATION CODE?
The language ultimately approved to appear on the ballot is as follows:
PROPOSITION
[ ] FOR
[ ] AGAINST
THE ISSUANCE OF $249,600,000 SCHOOL BUILDING BONDS AND THE LEVYING OF THE TAX IN PAYMENT THEREOF
Big difference doncha think? It is not what you say, it is what you don’t that matters when you are writing a bond election proposal apparently.

Thank you again Bsue! First!
Oh yeah….may I use your information to write a letter to the editor in The Woodlands Villager?
VOTE NO on all bonds! Don’t let the school boards screw you with the “its for the children” crap. This is not for the children, but for the administration to expand and expand beyond what is necessary.
ON ALL BOND PROPOSALS, VOTE NO! They have enough of our tax dollars.
#3…I agree…it is only a “feel good about us” thing with the bonds. DON’T DO IT! You will give them leverage to hold your tax dollars hostage without any validity. I can’t believe a college needs all this “fluff” stuff!
Southern, feel free - the link is there for the original PDF file. My recommendation would be to print out the original, and highlight Section 3 on pages 5&6. While I double checked my transcription, me thinks it might be best to hoist them on their on petard!
A retard hoist on their own petard! heh!
just wait till you read more of the dirt I’ve been given. you’ll be marching on the campus with pitchforks and torches.
stay tuned……
BSue #5…(?) already called my bubba and he will hook me up, if you gimme the o.k….must remember not to curse…..thank you so much! Muuuaaahhh!
Rorsh…little words for the redneck….dial up, don’t cha know! Just the facts, man, just the facts. I can kick butt, take names, and shoot the wounded, (but will take blame upon me!)
#8, on the one that is on tap for tomorrow morning’s edition of LST I can’t help that there are going to be bandwidth problems for those still cursed with dialup, the documents are scanned images and there is not a whole lot I can do about thier size. I put them below the fold so they won’t bog you down unless you go below the fold.
#9…rock on little daddy! My bubba’s gonna take care of me (I hope) Just want to get the 411 to the villager so they can “post my opinion” in time. I will post and re-post before the election, but have to have the jiggy, so I can defend myself..Pssst..dial-up is free, therefor, I cannot complain….
Sorry I missed this post…..It’s a good one! And right on target…..
