All Foley All the Time
by Jeremy 'Panda Man' Weidenhof · 10/03/2006 12:06 pmHave you had your fill of Mark Foley yet? The disgraced Florida Republican has resigned from Congress over lurid e-mail and instant messages he sent to Congressional pages several years ago that curiously just came to light very close to this fall’s election. Democrats have feigned outrage, and the Drive-By Media has dutifully fanned the flames, but they have ignored much corruption in their own ranks, and Foley’s immediate resignation undercuts their supposed rage.
In the bizarre world of Democrats and the Drive-By Media, a Republican writing notes to a teen is evidence of a “culture of corruption” while a Democrat president actually getting it on with a young intern in the White House is a resume enhancement. (“Hey, it’s my private life. Can’t we just move on?”) Had Mr. Foley’s last name been instead Clinton, Kennedy, Frank, or Jefferson, the media firestorm now being unleashed in Washington would be snuffed out like a candle in a hurricane.
The simple truth of the matter is that Foley’s behavior was unacceptable and he is gone. Democrats and their media friends will get all the mileage they can out of the story, but it will be discarded for the next “Republican crisis” in due time. Whether all of this will have the desired effect at the ballot box remains to be seen.

Politics as usual, smear the party in control to get back in control. Never mind the fact that the party out of control has no ideas or plans, they just want control back. The Democrats cannot win the debate with ideas so they turn everything negative. All the Republicans have to do is keep reminding everybody, there are bad apples on both sides but how did the Democrats deal with theirs.
And talk about a stupid media, how many people out there care anything about Anna Nicole Smith, who is the father of her illegitimate baby or the death of her son.
I don’t like Democrats any more than the next average LST commenter, but it’s prettty difficult for me to worry about their behavior at this point. If Repubs don’t want to lose their majority, it would be a really good idea to quit volunteering to give it up. Pointing the finger back at the media and/or Democrats has become sad and tired.
I agree with this:
http://washingtontimes.com/op-ed/20061002-102008-9058r.htm
Foley is gone as he should be.
The question I would like answered is how did this “scandal” which is supposedly 2 years old end up on the news 5 weeks before the election? Timing appears questionable and appears to have been done for political gain, not “for the children”.
I’d like that question answered too. But an even bigger question is why did Republicans hand a loaded gun to the Democrats and say “please shoot me”. It’s obvious that more than one Repub knew about this and did nothing.
So as much as I might like to point the finger at “questionable timing”, the only real place for me to point it is at the party who left me and my values by the wayside. Questionable timing can only come to fruition in the presence of something to question.
Interesting article from the Washington Post on how Republicans tend to pay a higher price politically for their sordid sexual scandals than do Democrats:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/02/AR2006100201302.html
There’s an untold aspect of the Foley story that the media is intentionally ignoring. They keep trying to pass him off as a “conservative Republican” when he was anything but that. Here are some facts about Mark Foley that everyone needs to know, but aren’t getting reported:
1. Foley was no conservative. He was a RINO, and most conservative Republicans in his own party did not like him. His American Conservative Union rating is 63% - the same as well known RINO Arlen Specter.
2. Foley was publicly ENDORSED by the Human Rights Campaign, the largest homosexual lobby group in the country. He was one of the only Republicans they endorsed (the others being RINO Chris Shays on Connecticut and Jim Kolbe of Arizona, who is openly gay). The HRC gave Foley a 100% rating on homosexual issues - higher than many Democrats including Foley’s old friend Nick Lampson, who got 90% during his last term in Congress.
3. Foley was widely known to be gay and rumored to be promiscuous by his colleagues in the Capitol Building. It is doubtful that they knew he was also preying upon underage pages, but they certainly knew of his other relationships. That’s why the emails to the pages should’ve sent red flags up when Hastert heard about them.
4. Mark Foley is NOT the first congressman to have a gay intern scandal. Two Massachusetts Democrats have been caught in similar and arguably worse situations. Neither of them resigned, and both were celebrated as “gay rights heroes” by the Democratic Party.
The first is Rep. Gerry Studds (D-MA) who got caught in 1983 having a sexual affair with a 17 year old male page. The Dems reelected Studds until he retired in 1996, and he’s currently a gay rights lobbyist.
The second is Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA). In 1989 Frank hired a male prostitute with a convicted felon record as a “personal assistant” on his staff. The prostitute moved into Frank’s apartment and resumed his former profession. Frank was lightly reprimanded in 1990 and has been a leading member of the House Democrats ever since.
So remember these facts when you hear some liberal claiming that Foley was a “conservative Republican.” Remember them when the Dems try to smear our party with the Foley scandal. Every conservative should know that Foley is not and never was one of our own. Nor have we embraced and celebrated his “diversity” in the wake of this scandal as the Dems did with Barney Frank and Gerry Studds.
Sounds like rinos and demos have a lot in common - the love for brown r _ _ _ _ d whether another gueer or a taxpayer.
It is also funny that all the Democrats and even a few Republicans that raised nine kinds of hell about the search of Jefferson’s office back during the bribery scandal haven’t made a peep about intercepting e-mails and text messages. I’m not saying either should enjoy any kind of privacy when it comes to illegal acts, it’s just that the double standard seems odd.
#9 DT,
You get my nomination for comment of the day.
You people are missing the point. This is not about politics, it about some sick perverted man who is having Internet sex with kids. This guy is sick. How can you keep talking about republican this and democrat that when a grown man is talking sex with a 16 year old. Come on people wake up, the so-called leaders of this country are not doing the peoples business, they are destroying this country. WAKE UP!
hitec
Foley is a pervert and Foley is out because of it. Democrats are outrages because Foley talked about sex in emails. The only thing that is bothering me about Foley is that it took 2 years to get him out.
What I want to know is where were all of these outraged Democrats at when Clinton was actually sexually involved with a 19 year old intern. Where was the Democrat outrage when Clinton committed perjury? Where was the democrat outrage when Studds actually had sex with a 17 year old page? Where was the democrat outrage when Barney Frank let his criminal homosexual partner setup a prostitution ring in his apartment?
Democrats are Hypocrits.
Sick, sick, sick. Would have been OK though if he were a Demoncrat.

Politics has entered into the discussion about Foley because the Democrats are making it into an election issue. Go to http://www.nicklampson.com if you doubt me.
Lampson, who used to be one of Foley’s closest bipartisan allies in Congress and is thus a big flaming hypocrite, has three separate rants posted all over his website demanding that the GOP return “tainted” NRCC cash over Foley.
Foley should be condemned for being a freak, pervert, and criminal…and he has. But now the Dems are using him as an election issue 40 days away from election day. The scandal has already become a political issue. That means the GOP has to either fight back against lying hypocrites like Lampson or we’re going to get rolled over on election day.
#13 - Exactly right. When Democrats molest male pages and run prostitution services out of their apartments they get celebrated and promoted for the “Diversity” they bring to the party. Witness Gerry Studds and Barney Frank.
With the short attention span of the common voter, this Foley stuff will probably go away. We all know each party is saving the good stuff until just before the elections. Look at all those books coming out, we have movies—that’s nothing yet, wait until the end of October around Holloween. The Democrats had better hope there isn’t any terrorist attacks!!!!!! because those evil Republicans have already managed to manipulate the gas prices to look good.
Fairly or unfairly, Republicans pay a higher price for this sort of thing because they run as the “family values / godly / high moral character” party. Also, Republican voters don’t put up with candidates involved in sex scandals the way Democratic voters do. Republicans set a very high bar for themselves. Then something like this happens and they look like hypocrites. It doesn’t help that the leadership completely blew it.
If the situation had been reversed, and it was a Democrat, we all know darn good and well that the Republicans would be making all kinds of hay, yelling “where is the outrage!?”
I loved, just loved that moron Lampson’s call for the left wing local media to badger Sekula-Gibbs into giving back money from GOP leadership. What a Democrat hypocrite. Lampson was once my congressman — for the love of all that is good — voters in Texas District 22 please do not make the same mistake and vote for Lampson. If you know anyone in the east texas area where Lampson served, call them up, ask what they think of Lampson, i think that you will find those who voted for him realize know what a terrible decision that was.

Republicans tell their bad apples to resign.
Democrats give their bad apples leadership positions in the House.
I say that there is a big big big difference.
Foley should have been a democrat. If he had, he would still be in congress and all the outraged Dems would be telling us it was no big deal. After all it was only sex talk.
Everybody is doing it, not a big deal.

Anna Nicole does not make laws which affect your daily life.
Comparison is apples and oranges.
Speaker of the house knew it 8 month ago, yes you heard it right, 8 lousy months ago. What did he do?
The member of the ‘family value’ party swept it under the rug for fear of losing florida seat, and you are blaming as usual, democrats.

Plenty of people here, myself included along with the Washington Times and dozens of conservative commentaters, believe that Hastert is culpable here.
The issue with the Democrats however is their hypocritical politicization of it all. The Dem talking point that Foley was a “conservative” “family values” candidate, for example, is ludicrous. Foley was a pro-gay social liberal who voted with the Dems on those issues.
BTW, have you heard the pro-gay, pro-Democrat Human Rights Campaign on the Foley scandal? Normally when a politician is exposed publicly as gay they embrace him like they did to Gov. McSleezy in New Jersey. This time they’re being quiet.
Any guesses why?
#24
Damn, if Foley was a democrat he would still be in congress and nothing would ever happen. Your upset about 8 lousy months?
Congressional Scorecard rating from the pro-gay Human Rights Campaign:
FL U.S. House 16 - Mark Foley - Republican - 100%

Of course the Democrats are politicizing it! They’re a month away from an election in which they are this close to getting back in power. And if the situation were reversed, the Republicans would be all over it like stink on a monkey! A boastful, passionate, whispering, masculine kind of monkey!
dont worry i am sure another fake bin laden video will apear the friday before the election…i love the arguement foley is a pervert but democrat perverts are worse!
Well;
I had the opportunity to use the high speed connection at Capitalist Corner over lunch today, and along with a couple posts I read in other blogs this morning, I have become amazed at the number of Liberal commenters, bloggers, and Journalists who seem not to know the difference between an email and an Instant Message. One wonders how they are able to navigate the blogosphere.
They are liars, of course.
In one instance, one commenter noted that 4 or 5 news organizations had the same emails that Hastert and the Clerk’s office had where Mark Foley asked about the well being of a former page and asked fo “a pic”, and came to the same conclusions that they did that there wasn’t enough in that mail to warrant further investigation or exposure, but the Liberal he was “debating” shot back that since one of those news organizations was Fox news, this was obvious evidence of a media coverup.
When it was mentioned that the FBI saw those same emails, and said that there wasn’t enough there to investigate, the Liberal responded that this was because Alberto Gonzalez was involved in the cover up, too.
He is a liar, of course.
He doesn’t really belive such preposterous notions…no sane or fair person would. He just wants to perpetuate anything that looks, sounds or smells like a Republican coverup…and make sure that the paint he is spreading with such a broad brush dosen’t drip onto the trousers of any Democrats.
This, of course is done not only to affect the elections, which is the primary purpose of the rhetoric. But a second, perhaps more sinsiter motivation exists as well.
The real evidecne that Mark Foley had committed a criminal act were contained in Instant Messages, not the emails that Hastert, the FBI, and those news organizations saw. Some of them three years old, and more are coming. IMs are not like emails…you have to copy and paste them into another permanent file. What this means is that SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE, committed a Federal Crime: Obstruction of Justice, because they obviously had thjose IMs and could link them to Foley and did not alert the Federal, Local, or State Law Enforcement Agencies, or even the Republican Leadership that everybody is blaming for not knowing about them.
Perhaps it not much of a coincidence that this is, essentially, the crime that Bill Clinton was inpeached for, and to which he later pled guilty to in a plea bargain. Clinton admitted to lying to a Federal Grand Jury, and he was forgiven by the Democrats because he Obstructed Justice by giving false testimony, essentially, for political purposes.
The person, or persons who failed to give those incriminating Instant Messages to the proper Authorities committed Obstructed Justice for political purposes as well, and judging by the rhetoric, Democrats don’t care one whit that Obstruction of Justice was commited–they onoy care that they can benefit from it–and from NOT exposing those who had this evidence. Because if those people who held it are exposed, so will thier motives for keeping them secret until the best political time will be as well.
It doesn’t matter whether the person or persons who had these incriminating Instant Messages is a Republican or Democrat, Male of Female, Black or White, Straight or Gay. He or they witheld evidence of an ongoing crime that victimized young men, and did it for selfish reasons.
But Democrats and Liberals don’t seem to care to make that an issue.
The other thing I find very
Interesting
is that many of these Liberals and Democrats are saying that, because Republican lawmakers knew that Foley was Gay, they should have limited his contact with the Pages.
That IS one important thing to note. From my reading, most of Washington knew that Foley was Gay, but chose to “stay in the closet.” This is waht is meant when they say he was “odd” or “flaky.” I don’t think that being gay equals being a pedophile, and the ironic thing is that Gay Activists on the left have gone to great lengths to make that point.
sarge,
Don’t try to debate lefties with facts and logic. Most are incapable of comprehending either.
Those that are capable of understanding facts and logic are too dishonest to use them.

You frame the arguement incorrectly. It isn’t Foley is a pervert but democrats perverts are worse.
The arguement is The republican pervery is OUT and democrat perverts are forgiven and allowed to stay in office.
It is a fact Mr. Foley is a hypocrite true to the word. All others of like mind and behavior should be ousted immediately and prosecuted. No one is above the law.
And they wonder why the Boy Scouts dont want gay men as scoutmasters. Nothing wrong with being gay just dont want gay men around young boys camping in the woods.
Foley did what he did, he’s out so the media/Dems don’t get to play with it for weeks so lets go after the leadership. I’m fine with that cause I’m still ticked at Hastert over the William Jefferson crap.
So far, fair game. Fair and balance has been discussed past couple of days, so lets do fair and balanced.
The next teacher/student molestation, affair whatever the principle and anyone knowing or who should of known goes down. These things don’t go on without suspicious behavior.
Deal?
Someone computer literate walk us thru the procedures for 50+ IM’s to have been saved and around for 3yrs.
#37 - Its as simple as ctrl-a (select all), ctrl-c (copy) and ctrl-v (paste), then file/save as. Takes about 30 seconds if the perv in question didn’t lock his PC.

Is it common to do and why?
Purge the perverts.
Congress does not need homosexuals; neither does the Roman Cathic Priesthood; nor does the Boy Scouts as Scoutmasters!
