(This has been said in other places, but I just gotta post it for the record.)
The messages Rep. Foley sent are disgusting and inexcusable. Period. His resignation is wholly appropriate.
Of course, the Democrats will use this for all it’s worth. We’ll be hearing about the Foley issue from now until Election Day, all day long. But I think there’s a way for the political argument to be quickly nullified—have Rep. Foley become a Democrat. After all, when Democrats do things that are far worse—sex with a male page, sex with a campaign staffer, sex with an intern—they are re-elected, pardoned, or given a pep rally.

I won’t worry about the Democrats using this for all its worth. I think they are all asleep.
Dimly Lit,
My brother and I were usually quick to point out each other’s transgressions when one of us got caught in a big uhh-oohh. Our mother’s response was usually that “Two wrongs never made a right.”.
We both would usually get punished for our individual actions.
I readily concede all of the previous sins by others that you mentioned, but don’t you believe that dredging up the actions of others as a response to the current problem is rather childish?
What happened to stand-up guys? I guess that it is a quality as missing in the Republican Party as it is in the Democratic Party.
Simple
The liberal media likes to judge on different standards so if you want to act like Foley, you should join the Democratic Party. That is acceptable behavior there as evidenced by Barney Frank and others within that party. But really isn’t Foley’s problem, his own personel problem taken to a politically charged election year propaganda. There are perverts out there, both parties have them and unfortunately only some get caught!!!!!!
SimpleSimon,
I didn’t think I was dredging up the actions of others, but rather their reactions.
Stand-up guys missing? Maybe in the Democratic Party, but not the Republican Party. Foley is gone. Our Party’s problem has been dealt with as far as our party can deal with it. And that’s my point. The Democrats deal with it by brushing the problem aside and continuing on like nothing happened. Well, something did happen and the Republicans took care of it.
I feel incredibly certain that Foley will not be re-elected, pardoned, or given a pep rally.
