Lampson ensnared in Foley sex scandal

ORIGINAL POSTING ON TUESDAY EVENING
I very, very, very much intended to stay above the “partisan” fray in relation to the Foley sex scandal… but Grinnin’ Nick Lampson has made himself too lush a target to pass up:
Today, I sent a letter to my opponent asking her to join me in calling for the resignation of any member of congressional leadership who had knowledge of inappropriate email and instant messenger communications between shamed Congressman Mark Foley and underage pages working at the House of Representatives. I urged my opponent to donate the funds she recently received from Congressman Tom Reynolds, who has admitted he knew of the situation and did nothing about it and from any others in congressional leadership who had prior knowledge of Mr. Foley’s actions to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Now, we find out that the national Republicans are quick to condemn Congressman Foley, but are willing to accept the $2.7 million campaign war chest Mr. Foley has amassed. On Sunday, Carl Forti, the communications director for the National Republican Congressional Committee, said “that the committee would gladly accept Mr. Foley’s money or part of it to devote to House races.” [New York Times, 10/2/06]
That’s despicable.
Please join me in calling on Mr. Foley and the NRCC to donate his $2.7 million campaign war chest to the National Center for Missing Exploited Children.
Hey, I understand this is politics, and the Lampson campaign is trying to stay on script with the national Democratic party making a push on this story as a part of their attempt to take back the House.
But you’d kinda think that maybe–just maybe–someone over at Lampson HQ would have paused to ask whether or not they really should be making an issue about the need for political candidates to donate to charity any campaign contributions they’ve received if the donor has even a tangential association with a gay sex scandal involving legal minors.
Especially when a simple FEC search reveals that Lampson’s campaign has received money from Barney Frank, the Gay-American Massachusetts Congressman who lived with, underwrote, and did political favors for a male prostitute who was running a gay-sex ring out of Frank’s apartment and who at the time had felony convictions for possession of cocaine, oral sodomy and production of obscene items involving a juvenile.
LoneStarTimes.com calls on Nick Lampson to prove his integrity by donating Barney Frank’s $750 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Anything less would be despicable.
You can join our call for Nick Lampson to do the right thing by contacting his campaign office here:

campaign@lampson.com
We called at 7:31 pm Tuesday evening and left a message (with a person); in fairness to Lampson’s campaign, I think they deserve at least until noon on Wednesday to decide on a response.
If you do call to encourage Nick to do the right thing, please be polite.

Oh, what tangled webs we weave…..
$750? chump change, but then again, Nick IS a chump….
Nick Lampson is a smarmy SOB. His picture should be used by Republicans to demonstrate what a smarmy, snaky dim politician is. I can’t even stand to look at him. I wish I lived in the 22nd District so I could vote for Shelly. PLEASE everyone in that district, please, please vote for Shelly Sekula-Gibbs on the write in ballot!
Hey, Nick Lampson doesn’t even live in CD 22, so it doesn’t seem fair to keep voters who don’t live there from voting against him.
But if you’re going to encourage write-ins, you might want to get her name right. It’s Shelley. And the Lampson people have indicated they will be aggressive in challenging write in votes. So you begin to see the enormity of the problem faced by Doctor-Councilwoman.
BTW, brilliant post David! Bravo!
Kevin Whited
Whatever. Anything close to Shelly or Shelley will get counted. Picker of nits.
Anything close to Shelley Sekula-Gibbs SHOULD count. There will be signs posted in the polling booths. Of course, in Harris, Brazoria, and Fort Bend there are Republicans overseeing the elections. That’s why in Galveston County, we need to elect Republican Barbara Meeks to the County Clerk’s office! You know we’ll be hand counting write-ins all night in Galveston! Remember to vote TWICE in CD-22 once in the special election (with Shelley’s name on the ballot) at the top of the ballot and AGAIN in the General election (where you have to write-in).
Also, come see Vice President Cheney and support Shelley Sekula Gibbs at a fundraiser at the Hyatt Downtown (1200 Louisiana) Noon Wednesday October 4. Sorry about the short notice.

Thanks for the reminder on the ballot! You guys in 22nd district have to vote twice.
I’ll try to be at the Hyatt.
Let’s not lose sight of the main issue here… will Nick Lampson donate his scandal-tainted contribution just as he is asking of SKG?

No
David,
I realize this is a day late, but I live and vote in the 22nd district. If you have the time, can you please explain further what you believe are the main issues for this district? Seriously…
If you don’t want to post it here, please have Squawk give you my email address.
Thank you.
I live in Dist 22, and yesterday the carpetbagging union thug was working the phones with the above message. I guess they called every phone number in the district, and it really pixxed me off, so thanks for the response number. Now Dr. Female Hyphenated Names That I Can’t Even Pronounce, Much Less Spell, seems a pretty lame candidate to me, but maybe just having had Tom DeLay spoioled me as to what one’s representative should do up there. Send Tricky Nick carpetbagging on to his next phony address to mount another campaign somewhere else.
To All,
I was beginning to think my District was the lowest of the low, but District 22 has managed to make Gene Green look good or at least not gag me.

My wife got the same call. The oily little SOB is push polling and dirty tricking his way around a district he ought to win in a walk. Tells you how desperate these folks really are.
DAVID
Can you find out if Slick Nick has gotten any contributions from C.R.E.W.? This is the bunch that held onto the incriminating Instant Messages that put the bag on Foley. I’d hate to think Nickcy would condone Obstruction of Justice by someone who witheld evidence of an on going crime that victimized young people.
Migth want to see if he’s getting an from the ACLU, wa well. They are dfending NAMBLA in a lawsuit and are also working on a case to lower the age at which it’s legal for minors to view porn.
Thank God I live in district 7! My senator will be the future gov, of Texas
Gov Dan!
One thing I noted in the primary is that a majority of the candidates who ran a dirty tricks, mud slinging campaign lost! Let’s hope this happens to Lampson.
I followed a link, and for what its worth, the Huffington Post is reporting that:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/10/03/fox-news-previously-had-c_n_30847.html
Meanwhile, Florida newspapers — who were leaked copies of the e-mail with the Louisiana boy last year — defended their decision not to run stories. Both The St. Petersburg Times and The Miami Herald were given copies of the e-mail, as were other news organizations, including Fox News.
“Our decision at the time was … that because the language was not sexually explicit and was subject to interpretation, from innocuous to ’sick,’ as the page characterized it, to be cautious,” said Tom Fiedler, executive editor of the Herald. “Given the potentially devastating impact that a false suggestion of pedophilia could have on anyone, not to mention a congressman known to be gay, and lacking any corroborating information, we chose not to do a story.”
Nick Lampson’s donors:
Lampson, Nick (D-TX) $12,600 from Human Rights Campaign in 2004. Note: this was Lampson’s 7th largest donor, and single largest non-law firm donor.
http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/contrib.asp?CID=N00005928&cycle=2004
Lampson also took $5,000 from Moveon.org and $2,500 from Planned Parenthood.
Nick Lampson is a carpetbagger chosen by the Democrats to run in District 22. Too bad the Democrats had to “scrape the bottom of the barrel” to come up with Lampson. I understand he only has an apartment in the district and will move back home when he loses.
As far as write-in goes, since you have to pay to register as a write-in, it shouldn’t be hard to distinguish write in names since there is only one Gibbs running as a write in but I know the ignorant Democrats will find a way to disqualify some votes.
16;
yAH, BUT fox news also made the same decison…along with 3 other papers. Of course, that’s evidence of a Vast Right Wing Media Conspiracy.
The FBI sasw the same emails and decided that there wasn’t enough to indicate the commission of a crime. But that’s evidence that Alberto Gonzalez stepped in a quashed the investigation.
IF you belive the folks on some of the other blogs.
Me?
When 3 newspapers, one TV Network and the foremost Law Enforcement aAgency all come to the same conlcusion , I’m willing to beleive that it’s a pretty damned valid one.
So I’m not going to go around like Nancy Pelosi and Slick Nick Lampson and say that there is massive evidence toprove that Republicans covered up evidence of a sexual predator.
I WILL however say that the folks who concealed the Instant Messages that had the REAL evidence and chose to release just 40 days before the elction, and then to the media and not Law Enforcement DID cover up evidence of a sexual predator.
It’s caled Obstruction of Justice. It;s a Federal Crime in this case, and I want to see the folks who did it…no matter WHO they are…..to go to jail.

“…Tells you how desperate these folks really are.
..”
Lampson is so desperate to be in office that he moved from the Beaumont area in order to run against DeLay in District 22. Now, is that because he wants to serve his constituency, or because he wants to firm up his retirement pension? Hmmm
Lampson is a self centered weasel!!
Don’t return the money, the Weepublicans are going to need it.
Lampson is a Jack Brooks wannabe. Always has been. The Beaumont area took them both off their ballot. Good riddance!
Well, it looks as though it’s politics as usual in District 22!
Kinky is right - we need to get rid of these scumbags. They are taking us to the cleaners by raising their salaries and pensions and getting too comfortable after too many terms and doing anything (getting the border closed, capping property taxes, etc.) for any of us hard working, honest people.
