It is not very often that I am left speechless. I found this post from a 16 year myspace blogger that I feel deserves notice.
Thursday, October 05, 2006 Dylan [Take It All Into Your Stride] had this to say:
Greater love hath no [wo]man than [s]he who gives up his life for his friend.”
Current mood: crushed“Shoot me first.”There are some things that can touch even the hardest of hearts, and I believe this is one of them.
I don’t believe I could muster half the bravery of the 12 year old girl, willing to give her own life to buy time for others. No, not even a half.
Say what you will about the amish, but if an entire community holds it’s values in alignment with this little girl’s (given the fact that the murdered children’s families invited the killer’s own family to the funeral, I’m inclined to believe so), I believe we lead the backwards lives.
“Take it at face value, lad. Heroes aren’t necessarily fighters. Some are Ghandis.”
Rest in Peace, children.
Thanks Dylan I could have not said it better so I won’t try.

Thank you for posting that Squawk. It is people, not the pew, that brings church into our hearts. This young man and you just did… Thank you.
I read yesterday that the reason they do not (at least outwardly) scream and rant and ask why: #1 they know that their daughter is now in heaven, with the Lord and his Father, and know that they will see them again; and #2 their daughter’s body has been in their home for the past 2 days, where they have been able to clean her, dresss her, touch her, and say goodbye to her, along with all their friends. They are not afraid of death, because they know what is on the other side: Love, peace, grace, living with the Father for eternity. What greater peace.
I was telling my coworkers yesterday, I was not sure, if I was a teacher there, if I would have the courage to tell the shooter, “No, I will not leave” and put myself between the shooter and the girls. I still don’t know.

It’s sad to say, but today’s children are not “children” any more. They have been thrust into a world of violence, the likes of which I never could imagine in my own youth. To image such horror could happen in a closed society such as the Amish just boggles the mind.
Very moving tribute…..
We appreciate your putting this situation into perspective by posting it and for humbling us. I am sure we are all moved by the fact that these people are true FAITH followers of Christ-like behavior - the breathe it and live it as well. They are not caught up in the world and we could learn a lot from them.
You don’t have to live their life style but, if we all had their attitude and faith we would end war and crime.
I know that Jesus said that we (his true believers)will all be with him in a twinkling of an eye when he comes, but it wouldn’t hurt my feelings one tiny bit if these folks got there a few seconds ahead of me.
He also said the NO one knows when that time will come, but with all that’s bad and evil going on in this world and seemingly getting worse EVERY day, it can’t be too soon for me!
With 14% of the population in the US saying they are non-believers, we have allowed that minority to take GOD and prayer out of our schools and government buildings, etc. and out lives of some people who really cound use HIM.
We have GOT to take our country back before it’s too late! Dan Patrick is only one voice. We desirately need more like him.
