There is a man on trial in Georgia who is from Ethiopia. He is on trial for cutting off his two year old daughter’s clitoris with scissors. The mother claims she did not know about it for a year. But there is a strong possibility that she did it herself. Either way, this poor girl, who is seven years old now, will never be able to derive any physical pleasure from something that is considered one of the most important aspects of our humanity. I grieve for this poor girl.

When I first read this story I was disgusted. This is the sickest form of sexual abuse of a child. The reasoning behind it makes it even worse. “so she would not grow up to dishonor her family by being promiscuous” as one story stated or as this one “so she will remain a virgin”. Do these freaks really think that “desire” is in the clitoris instead of the hormones? Can they really be that ignorant?
I do not believe though that the mother was unaware of this as this child would have been in great physical pain at least until it began to heal.
Both mother and father should go to jail.
Why they don’t think God (or Allah) would have created His creatures as He desired is beyond me. Who are they to (1) second guess God? (2) abuse their children? (3) think that sex is all in the genitalia? Ask any woman - sex starts long before the genitals are involved. Love is of the heart and mind first. Virginity or promiscuity is more a factor of values than of physical characteristics. People who believe in FGM are ignorant, misogynistic (I hope I spelled that correctly), patriarchial evolutionary throwbacks. I pray that this child manages to overcome the hate that she is probably going to have towards her parents, especially as she grows older and realizes exactly what they have done to her. They have not only prevented her from enjoying a deeper and more fulfilling personal relationship with her future husband, but they have told her that she is a little less than fully human by this action. I say, cut his penis off and see how he feels!
