It has indeed been that kind of a week!

I’ll be busy hanging door-tags in a continued effort to defeat the NHMCCD bond referendum and to encourage voting for the trustee candidates, Holsey, Crowder, and Blanton!

    Have a great weekend yourself!

If you did not vote early, you need to prepare for an onslaught on Tuesday. We should declare Tuesday a holiday. Do you think we could convince Congress to do that?

If you’re ever in La Habra Heights, Calif. and…
    1) See someone drowning… DO NOT RESCUE.
    2) See someone in cardiac arrest… DO NO CPR
    3) See a car on fire… DO NOT EXTINGUISH
or else you’ll get a letter from the city atty in effect stating, “We write to remind you of the prohibition on unauthorized rescue/medical/firefighting activities within the city and to demand that you cease and desist from conducting these operations within the city limits of La Habra Heights”

    Data Banks:
Bought a tire and the kid hands a card and says to fill it out.
“What’s this?” ‘It’s your registration, we send it to the DOT.
    “Oh.”
The Texas Data Bank er Texas Border Watch, citizens have to register
to use a system they paid for. “Huh?” If the purpose for the website is to attract viewers why to they want to send me an email?

There is no way to filter unwanted emails, the only way to keep your box clean is not to register, there are other ways to verify traffic numbers.

R-Cee I agree. The picture quality leaves a LOT to be desired. With what this is probably costing us, the state should have set up cameras with real lenses and not the ones that were recycled from their old ViewMasters.
Hopefully it will come together eventually, because it is listed as a TEST.

The Aussies are getting it! This is a great article on how they intend to rid themselves of “multiculturism”

THE Howard Government is looking to scrap the word “multiculturalism” as part of a major revamp of ethnic policy. In a move seen as a shift in emphasis away from fostering diversity and towards increasing integration and responsibility among migrants, the government is canvassing alternative words to describe how ethnic communities harmoniously integrate into Australian society.

    ~snip

I expect references to unity and diversity will be lost from the new policy because of the diversity thing going out.”

As you go to vote Tuesday, keep this in mind -

    The reality in today’s America:

For the most part, politicians, lawyers, government employees and officers, and judges, do not really care what the law says. Read that sentence again and then burn it into your memory; it will save you a lot of angry days and sleepless nights.

There is a vast difference between what the law says and “how the system works”. Here is something else for you to burn into your memory - the system has been hijacked from The People and it now functions for four primary purposes:

    1. Government control of persons and property.

    2. The receipt of revenue, either by lawful action or extortionate conduct.

    3. The protection of the system that provides for points 1 and 2.

    4. The protection of persons who facilitate points 1, 2, and 3.

If you are one of the uninitiated, the statement made above may seem somewhat reactionary to you. However, all one need do to learn that these statements are true is to stand your ground when the government accosts you and they are legally in the wrong. If you are a person of integrity and good faith, you will expect your government to sit down with you, read the law, and cease their unlawful actions against you. What you will not be prepared for is the attack that will be made upon you by your government in retaliation for your audacity! On the other hand, if your government is not accosting you, but you notice that it is acting in a manner that is contrary to the written law, if you bring that fact to the government’s attention, the government will fall completely silent and never respond (with anything substantive) to your comments, observations, or requests for correction.

“The evils of tyranny are rarely seen but by him who resists it.”
    – John Jay, Castilian Days II, 1872

We and we alone are responsible for bad Govt by voting straight party line ticket.
    Govt should represent majority.
Since one party cannot satisfy the majority , people in Govt should be from different parties representing varied issues to varied voters.
Then and then only our rant will subside.

    Hello? tap tap tap…ahem…™
May I have your attention please?
Has anybody been to the virtual border website? I refuse to give them my e-mail address, so I gave a fake one. It came back immediately that my address was invalid. Dang it! First of all, what in the heck is a virtual fence gonna accomplish? Don’t you think that most American’s have better things to do than watch and report “activity”? I think if Mr. Perry would install a semi-auto matic weapon, along with the camera, and when we see “illegal” activity, we can use the space bar and enter to shoot the weapon. I think this would have a better participation output….just a thought :)

BUILD A DAM_ED FENCE AND PUT ARMED MILITARY PERSONEL EN MASS ON THE DAM_ED BORDER!!! It may not stop them all, but it will at the very least stop 95% or more. The other 5% can be rounded up, put in jail for a year - in a tent city somewhere in the TransPecos area of West Texas - and then deported to Oaxaca (Southern Mexico)!

  69. Golden Adam on November 5th, 2006 at 12:21 am

It’s called Justice, Sluth. (shouldn’t that be spelled sleuth?) ;-) Do you suppose the district was keeping a running tally on the mailed-in ballots, and that their excuse for cancelling the election had more to do with them losing both on the bond and on the trustee election, and less with their failed efforts to get people trained for manning polling places?

Bottom line is: They tried to hide the election. They got caught. They cancelled the election - ergo - there was no election, so…cough up the results - Immediately!

All this could be grounds for a lawsuit later on, depending on the results of THIS election. They tried to pull the wool over the eyes of the electorate, and now they have to pay the price for their underhandedness!

What are you guys complaining about. The virtual fence will work perfectly: All virtual border crossers will be stopped by it.

The real ones will get through, though.

May I have your attention, please? My friend just told me about this website, and I gotta tell ya, I think it’s pretty cool! Rumor has it, that the police are not fond of it. You can scroll down in the middle and click on listen to police/fire scanner. Seems to me that someone I knew as a kid, got arrested last night. Enjoy!

#54 Edison invented a bunch of thing, but, electricity wasn’t one of them. Seems like God might have done that and George Westinghouse figured out how to get it to peoples houses.

I was “talking” about light bulbs, not electricity. ;)

  94. marc on November 5th, 2006 at 2:58 pm

    Here is a history lesson:

    Electricity and Lightbulb - History
Replica of original lightbulb - patent # 223,898
Thomas Edison’s greatest challenge was the development of a practical incandescent, electric light. Contrary to popular belief, he didn’t “invent” the lightbulb, but rather he improved upon a 50-year-old idea. In 1879, using lower current electricity, a small carbonized filament, and an improved vacuum inside the globe, he was able to produce a reliable, long-lasting source of light. The idea of electric lighting was not new, and a number of people had worked on, and even developed forms of electric lighting. But up to that time, nothing had been developed that was remotely practical for home use. Edison’s eventual achievement was inventing not just an incandescent electric light, but also an electric lighting system that contained all the elements necessary to make the incandescent light practical, safe, and economical. After one and a half years of work, success was achieved when an incandescent lamp with a filament of carbonized sewing thread burned for thirteen and a half hours.

There are a couple of other interesting things about the invention of the light bulb: While most of the attention was on the discovery of the right kind of filament that would work, Edison actually had to invent a total of seven system elements that were critical to the practical application of electric lights as an alternative to the gas lights that were prevalent in that day.

    These were the development of:

    1. the parallel circuit,
    2. a durable light bulb,
    3. an improved dynamo,
    4. the underground conductor network,
    5. the devices for maintaining constant voltage,
    6. safety fuses and insulating materials, and
    7. light sockets with on-off switches.

Before Edison could make his millions, every one of these elements had to be invented and then, through careful trial and error, developed into practical, reproducible components. The first public demonstration of the Thomas Edison’s incandescent lighting system was in December 1879, when the Menlo Park laboratory complex was electrically lighted. Edison spent the next several years creating the electric industry.

The modern electric utility industry began in the 1880s. It evolved from gas and electric carbon-arc commercial and street lighting systems. On September 4, 1882, the first commercial power station, located on Pearl Street in lower Manhattan, went into operation providing light and electricity power to customers in a one square mile area; the electric age had begun. Thomas Edison’s Pearl Street electricity generating station introduced four key elements of a modern electric utility system. It featured reliable central generation, efficient distribution, a successful end use (in 1882, the light bulb), and a competitive price. A model of efficiency for its time, Pearl Street used one-third the fuel of its predecessors, burning about 10 pounds of coal per kilowatt hour, a “heat rate” equivalent of about 138,000 Btu per kilowatt hour. Initially the Pearl Street utility served 59 customers for about 24 cents per kilowatt hour. In the late 1880s, power demand for electric motors brought the industry from mainly nighttime lighting to 24-hour service and dramatically raised electricity demand for transportation and industry needs. By the end of the 1880s, small central stations dotted many U.S. cities; each was limited to a few blocks area because of transmission inefficiencies of direct current (dc).

The success of his electric light brought Thomas Edison to new heights of fame and wealth, as electricity spread around the world. His various electric companies continued to grow until in 1889 they were brought together to form Edison General Electric. Despite the use of Edison in the company title however, he never controlled this company. The tremendous amount of capital needed to develop the incandescent lighting industry had necessitated the involvement of investment bankers such as J.P. Morgan. When Edison General Electric merged with its leading competitor Thompson-Houston in 1892, Edison was dropped from the name, and the company became simply General Electric.

That’s all very interesting to know, but, Edison built his origional systems based on DC current. DC is not practical for transmission over long distances. Westinghouse developed AC current and the generators to produce same. And that’s why if you stick your finger into an outlet in your house {if you could} it will knock the fire out of you. They all got rich and we only got the bills.

    97,

Actually, Tesla invented AC and the simple transformer. Westinghouse took Tesla’s ideas and Edison’s power system design and got us where we are today. My point was that Edison started it all.

JRB, DC will knock the fire outa ya just like AC. I know after working on AC backup systems with DC battery banks. There have been a few people killed also.

When we lived in Houston we had two cats. One was raised indoors from a kitten, the other much younger one was a stray we adopted. They were both very vocal. I used to talk to them like people, and they would answer me.

When we moved to our country place in Waller Co. we tried hard to keep them from getting out, but they were so curious and sneeky they did get out a few times. The younger “wild cat” got out and wasn’t missed for a few hours. She was probably within voive distance. She finally turned up a couple days later with no claws. Obviously treed by one of our predators. She snuck out again and that was it.

The older cat was scared of grass. Why she wanted to test the jungle I’ll never understand…never saw her again either. Anyway, we miss our old cats.

We have sorta adopted a stray grey stripey cat that you can’t get closer than 3′ to. I have finally got him to talk to me after about a year.

    No more hisssses anyway.

    Sunny,
Cats have wisdom. In their silence they make more sense than most people. They just give you the ‘deal with it’ stare. Our office cat moves about the building as she pleases and seems to know who needs a listen. As a rule, she does not bother me except on those rare occasions when I actually try to work. Unroll a set of prints and its playtime.

  117. sunny on November 5th, 2006 at 9:36 pm

Marc and gtotracker…sure…these two of mine are very vocal too, because I’ve talked to them since they were kittens…they respond all the time. They tell me when they come in and when they’re on their way outside…they talk all the bloody time! lol We have great conversations the three of us…I think they make more sense than a lot of people I’ve stumbled across! (In particular, my landlord!) ;)

Your prescription will not solve the problem because it is the financial elite and their minions who are the real power in this country (and most, if not all, of the world). After all, if you could create money out of nothing there would be very, very few judges, politicians, bureaucrats, etc. that you couldn’t buy.
