I can think of few nations better suited to pursue war crimes trials.

    They’re the experts.

The Democrats could be opening a “can of worms”, the likes of which they have never seen and could be far reaching and ruin any chances of bipartisanship they were looking for. They didn’t get enough seats to override any veto. They could potentially drown in that surge of power. I don’t think people elected them to act like dictators!!!

Worse, what Republican president will ever again be able to defend the United States militarily? With the Stalinist Media, it will be impossible to ever win a war again.

I told you, we’re dead. With the Media Propoganda supporting the Socialists, it’s impossible to get our message out to the masses….

  4. ThunderHawkk on November 10th, 2006 at 2:10 pm

They CAN act like dictators, because the MEDIA is on their side! They can twist anything to the democrats favor! It’s over! We’re all dead!

That is what we get for getting into those treaties. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

I don’t think it’s accurate yet to say that Germany is pursuing criminal charges. 12 individuals are asking German prosecutors to pursue criminal charges. Still very very unlikely that this would happen.

And you know, another reason that a future Democratic president can act like a dictator is because our elected representatives just gave him or her the power in the Military Commissions Act.

    I’m just saying.

    Ree-C,

I doubt much will come of this in Germany, but it would be a great pretext for shrinking the sizes of our bases (and the local payroll) in Germany.

The terrorist prisoner issue has been boiling for a while; sometimes you just have to lift the lid off of the kettle.

As far as the Congress watching the President…Isn’t that part of the checks and balances? Of course, I wish the President had done a better job of watching the do-nothing ear-marking, spendthrift Republican Congress.

    Simple

With twelve years out of power, the bitterness really festered itself. Instead of creeping in gradually, the Dimwits decided an all out attack on the Republicans. Their theory, now that their down, kick the heck of them so they never, ever get back into power—that sounds a bit dictatorial. We we had better be prepared to defend ourselves from the terrorists on our shores because there is no appeasing them but I know the Dimwits will try.

This is the name of the game. The Dems want to solidify their victory in the House and Senate.

Rumsfeld is the first casualty. The Dems will use oversight committees to subpoena and investigate other Repubs in an attempt to recapture their pre-1994 status.

This is what Repubs get for abandoning their conservative principles (and voter base) and allowing the religious-zealots and RINOs to overtake the party.

This is also why I vote Libertarian.

This whole situation makes me want to say: “Let’s get the hell out of any country that tries to make our lives miserable and let them fend for themselves. This includes all of our financial aid as well.” I know this is knee jerk and would probably hurt our private industries invested abroad, but dammit, these people make me mad. It’s not losing the election, it’s outsiders trying to tell us how to run our country. Tell the UN to pack its bags and take a hike. And the horse they rode in on.

I’m sorry, but this is a frickin’ joke. I see no justification in this German court filing whatsoever. We’re going to live to regret the Left taking over Congress - this is just the first step down the road.

You guys who thought that letting the Dems take over because Bush was just soooo bad, or that the Dems could not be any worse, I hope you pay attention to what happens in the next 2 years…

All the comments here are hilarious. Somehow the democrats gets connected with a group of people wanting to charge Rumsfeld and company in Germany. Do you guys just make this stuff up off the top of your head or did I miss some kind of connection here?

And then, you completely ignore the fact that this investigation should have been done by our OWN government. Have any of you read - http://www.livescience.com/othernews/060124_political_decisions.html?
You guys must really be getting your rocks off these days.

Ahem, folks, do not forget the Executive Branch has its role as given by the Constitution. Congress and the Supreme Court can legislate all they want, but the Executive Branch is the enforcer. As Andy Jackson said about Justice Marshall–he’s made his decision, now let him enforce it. And, who commands the military, FBI, Justice Dept. etc? Weak and toothless the Executive ain’t, despite the lunatic statements coming from the Left. It’s high time the veto pen got used for openers.

It’s amazing how different this article, posted on Aljazeera’s website, sounds from the ones on American sites! #14 wigginz - maybe that’s the reason that the leftists or Dems are connected in OUR minds with these actions.

A US-based rights group defending Guantanamo Bay detainees is seeking criminal charges against Donald Rumsfeld, the outgoing US defence secretary.

The Centre for Constitutional Rights said it would ask German prosecutors to open an investigation and, ultimately, a criminal prosecution that would look into the responsibility of high-ranking US officials for authorising war crimes in the so-called war on terror.

The group of lawyers hopes German prosecutors will take up the case under Germany’s universal jurisdiction law, which allows them to pursue certain cases originating anywhere in the world, a spokeswoman said on Friday.
