Who is the guy here that was bitching about “cut and run” Republicans?

I am a conservative, if Republicans want to ignor me then I do not htink they should take my vote for granted by using the old arguement “we are better than the alternative”.

Call me “cut and Run” if you want, but if Republicans have not gone back to the conservative message by the next election they best be prepared for more losses.

This liberal appointment to the RNC chair is an indication that the Republican party has not yet gotten the message.

I VOTE for conservatives, not RINOs.

#8, “path to citizenship” = “amnesty” I really don’t see how you can phrase it any other way. It rewards people who have broken the law by allowing them to jump to the head of the line. that is wrong an far too many levels.

#9, it is crap like that that is giving McCain ideas. we are conservatives. we want our party to be conservative, not “Moderate”. The Senate was far too moderate and look where that got us. We don’t need a RINO running things.

Call it anything you want, but if it ends up granting ILLEGALS citizenship, it is in fact a amnesty bill.

  12. Dave D on November 14th, 2006 at 10:07 am

I think that Republicans have read the election backwards, they think that they were too conservative!?!? What?!?!

  13. Rorschach on November 14th, 2006 at 10:07 am

here is what the Center for Immigration Studies had to say about the Hagel-Martinez bill:

Hagel-Martinez Amnesty. The Hagel-Martinez bill, or Senate bill 2611 (also called S. 2611), has three separate amnesties or legalizations: One for illegals in the country five or more years, one for those who have been here two to five years, and one for those who work in agriculture. Like the 1986 legalizations, the current amnesties involve paying a fine and undergoing a background check. The largest of the new amnesties is for those in the country five or more years. Illegal aliens in this category are placed on what can be described as a “glide path” to Lawful Permanent Residence (LPR). Individuals in the glide path can start to apply for LPR status, also called a green card, once the immigration service has worked through all existing applications or after eight years, whichever is shorter.

There is also an amnesty for illegals who have been here for between two and five years. These individuals can apply for what is called “deferred mandatory departure” (DMD), which can last up to three years. Those with DMD can, like those on the glide path, live and work in the United States. Those with DMD can also at any time apply for the new “guest worker” program referred to as the H2C visa, which Hagel-Martinez creates. To apply for the H2C program, those with DMD will have to go to a port of entry to apply. There is no requirement, however, that they go back to their home countries or stay out of the United States for any length of time. Although it is called a “guest” worker program, the H2C program allows individuals to begin applying for green cards after four years, or sooner if employers apply on their behalf. Although there is an annual limit of 200,000 on the H2C program, those with DMD (i.e., former illegal immigrants) are explicitly exempt.

The third amnesty is for illegal immigrants who have worked in agriculture for a certain number of hours in the years prior to the enactment of S. 2611. These individuals can sign up for the new “blue card” program, the fine for which is smaller than in the other amnesties. Individuals with a blue card can then apply for LPR status after working in agriculture for an additional three to five years. While there are some differences in the way each of these amnesties works, they all share in common the fact that recipients can live and work in the United States and have the opportunity to eventually receive green cards and citizenship.

How Many Will Receive Amnesty? The top portion of Table 1 shows the number expected to legalize legitimately in each of the three categories. Although the actual size of the illegal population is unknown, some research indicates that there are 7.7 million illegals who have been here for five or more years and 2.2 million who have been here for two to five years.7 The number of illegal farm workers who could qualify under the work provision of the “blue card” program has been estimated by the Congressional Budget Office at 1.1 million.8 This estimate seems reasonable, but not all of these individuals have been here for at least two years. Based on our analysis of illegals in the Current Population Survey who work in agriculture, we estimate that 75 percent (830,000) have been here for more than two years and should be excluded from the potential pool of nearly 10 million beneficiaries for the two non-agricultural amnesties in S. 2611.

We exclude the 830,000 agricultural workers here for more than two years because the blue card is a cheaper and faster route to a green card and therefore we expect those who can take advantage of that program will choose to do so. This means that the potential applicant pool for the two non-agricultural amnesties is 9.07 million. To this number must be added the 1.1 million who can apply for the blue card program, for a total potential applicant pool of 10.17 million for the three amnesties.

Rorschach: Wrong, path to citizenship does not equal amnesty. They would still pay fees, wait some time, and go through the process. Either way they are here, are not going anywhere, so a good solution is necessary. By blocking this then they will get amnesty (which I appose)and more moderates will win because they have a solution.

Complete deportation of all ILLEGALs is possible, and should be the goal. No criminal should be rewarded for his/her crime.

You want solutions. OK, close the border, require Photo id’s for all citizens and LEGAL immigrants, make it ILLEGAL for anyone to hire anyone without the proper id, Make it illegal to rent housing to anyone without the proper id, and allow Police officer’s to check the ID of everyone involved in any police investigation. ILLEGALS would have little choice but to leave.

We have to start NOW!

I want the same “pathway to citizenship” deal to apply for murder and rape as well. Let a rapeist go and maul a bunch of women and then if they behave between 2 to 5 years… or pick up litter for 34.75 hours every other leap year…. all’s forgiven! Leave it to politicians to come up with such an unworkable and administrative nightmare.

  43. The Dude on November 14th, 2006 at 12:46 pm

My email flogging has officially begun. I’m starting with my precinct chair and I’ll work my way up from there. Now is the time to start, as Neo says. I’d rather take the time to email them now than complain about the results from not doing it in 2008.

I’m writing to you, sir, in the hopes that you’ll pass on my concerns about what is happening to the Republican party. What I see happening is that you all are largely out of touch with the concerns of the average voter. I can’t speak for everyone. I can only speak for me. I am not a faithful Republican voter. I am a faithful conservative voter. If I perceive Republicans to be on a leftist track, I will not vote for them. Period. It doesn’t matter whether or not you’re better than the Democrat alternative. So with that, I will give you a list of things I consider completely unacceptable from Republicans.

    1. Any form of amnesty, path to citizenship, or whatever else you want to call catering to illegal immigrants. Unacceptable. Democrats may want to grant a “path to citizenship” to people who ignore the law. I do not and I will not vote for any Republican who does.

    2. Contributing to the unchecked growth of government on all levels. Unacceptable. Government isn’t the solution to the problem. It is the problem. I will not vote for any Republican who can’t see that.

    3. Getting overly involved in social issues that are no business of the government’s. Unacceptable.
My morality is my business. It’s between me and God. Stay out of it. I will not vote for any Republican who feels the need to socially engineer.

That’s a pretty short list, isn’t it? Short as it is though, I believe it goes a long way towards explaining the “thumping” America just received. Rove is a smart guy, but he’s obviously not as smart as he thinks he is. Maybe listening to people who are conservatives, yet not dyed-in-the-wool Republicans would have been a good idea.

I thank you for your time in reading this. I do sincerely hope that you’ll take it as the constructive criticism I intended it to be and pass it on to others in the Republican hierarchy.

    Best Regards,
[my real name, not 'The Dude']

I’m in 516 Ror. I have Jared’s email address. I don’t know why I didn’t think to send it to him, but I will.

Let me make it clear too that my dissatisfaction doesn’t really apply to Ted Poe. From everything I’ve seen about him, he’s the kind of Republican I like. I had no problem voting for him.

That brings up a good point too, though. I plan on emailing/contacting him and telling him how much I appreciate what he does. Positive reinforcement also goes a long way.

What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand?

It has nothing to do with Employment. Illegal immigration is bad for the United States, as well as a danger for our security. You can stop ILLEGAL immigration if you continue to reward it.

Now if you want to talk about sending the illegal home and allowing people that actually want to be a part of this country into the U.S. in an orderly and legal fashion, that is another discussion.

And yes, I expect anyone wanting to come here to speak our language, respect our customs, pull their own weight, and to put the intrest of the United States above the intrest of their former country.

  55. Zippy_Slug on November 14th, 2006 at 1:21 pm

    Dear Republican party,

You left me before I hardly got to know you.

First, anyone who says that we cannot deport some X million illegal aliens is trying to sell you an amnesty plan. Put some make-up on that pig. Deport as they are found, make a bigger fence.

Second, keep your dam hands out of my back pocket. Don’t steal from me to give to someone you think needs to vote for you. Money is for the people, not for govmint. Privatize the school system, privatize medicare, privatize social services.. The government is in the business of protecting me and my family and providing infrastructre, not to give people handouts. If it is, I must have missed that day of public school talking about it in the Constitution.

    Third, fair tax. NOW!

Fourth, the military should be able to do its job. Kick ass and leave our enemys scared. No more paper tigers.

No more of these RINOs.. I WILL be voting in the primaries and getting to know the candidates. I will be contacting my local precinct chair since I have one here and will work to get to know him better. I’m tired of loosing my country to people who want to make this a socialist haven. We are not europe. We are Americans da** it. We are a country where the people run government, not the government running people. I’m sick of it.

  65. dem4life on November 14th, 2006 at 6:11 pm

It’s sad when otherwise intelligent people evolve into single-issue voters (in this case immigration).

Martinez received a 100% rating from the ACU. Aside from his support for amnesty (see the Hagel-Martinez amnesty legislation and his pro-amnesty votes) He receives high ratings from pro-life groups. Besides his perfect rating from the American Conservative Union and high ratings from Eagle Forum the Gun Owners of America gave him a 100% rating too. So it is safe to say he is about as conservative as they come.

Besides Mehman, Bush and Rove all share similar views on immigration so it really doesn’t matter…

  66. The Dude on November 14th, 2006 at 6:28 pm

Actually Dem, it’s fair to say I’m a two issue voter:

    1. security
    2. taxes/size of govt.

in order of importance to me. Since I believe illegal immigration is a direct affront to #1, even if that was my only issue, it’s a huge issue.

Stick around and you will find that we are multi-issue voters.

Besides Mehman, Bush and Rove all share similar views on immigration so it really doesn’t matter…

And the end point is that the electorate matters more.

Speaking of single issue it seems to me that the Dems focused on one issue, hate republicans”. I don’t recall hearing an over abundance of issues from that side of the aisle. In fact when I checked around the demoblog-o-sphere I could not find anything but hate Bush.

Nope your comment will not be deleted.  I will remind you once again that no one but you are trying to turn this into a race issue.  Knock it off.

Apparently Im not the only one who thinks this guy is being judged without reason. Dem4life has pointed out his high ratings from Conservative groups, yet he is still not good enough… Im not making it into a race issue, just putting out the idea of why he may not be liked.

And I am not going to argue with you. You have made statements time and again that those who post on LST are tagging people because of their race and that simply is not true. The ONLY parts of your comments that have been removed is when your comments approach labeling anyone as racist because they criticize a person of color or they support the deprotation of illegal aliens. Dem4Life I might add did not make it a race issue. YOU DID. And besides, he likes him because he is squishy on a subject he likes, AS ARE YOU I might add. You have made it abundantly clear you want the floodgates opened even wider (as if they could be). Get over yourself. the rest of the country voted the current crop of Republicans out not because they were too hard on illegals, they voted them out because they are too soft. The leadership took away the wrong message and wants to be even softer. You are no more conservative than Pelosi, stop trying to say you are because you are lying through your teeth.

moderator! I have not made that accusation to anyone, although I have suggested that may be why Martinez is not accepted.

Mr. Defender puhlease do not insult my intelligence.  Besides the fact this is your third or fourth name that you have posted under you eventually get around to basically accusing everyone on LST of racism in one form fashion or another.  I have no problem with your statements defending your position but when you start with

The only reason etc etc etc is his last name, etc

I have a problem with that and it will not be tolerated.  As I have stated, you sir are the only person in the discussion that tries to swing the debate to a race issue.

End of my discussion on the  subject.

    Rorschach:

I just made another point and have a different approach.
Never have I said I want the flood gates to open. That is your statement, not mine. I beleive we should close the border. Will it happen? I seriously doubt it because politicians know that illegals help the economy. What I seek is comprehensive reform and a path to citizenship and for those who dont want it then a guest worker program. Unfortunately some people are to ignorant and dont know their history enough to understand that a previous guest worker program worked out great. Instead, (in my view) they chose to follow their racist agenda and not want any of them in this country. (Note to Moderator: I did not call anyone here a racist, so please dont delete my comment). Do you truly believe that is the only reason why Republicans lost? If so that is perfectly fine, you have the right to believe as you wish. All I can say is that the Hispanic population continues to grow and those who can bring in the Hispanic vote will hold the power. It is a fact not just an opinion. You can keep denying it as long as you wish, in the meantime they will continue to lose elections, year after year. Again I reiterate that I am probably more conservative than you are. Just because I seek a viable solution to the immigration problem doesnt make me a Liberal. I as a Christian am taught to help those in need despite their legal status, color, religion, sex, or race! You should try it sometime it actually feels good to help.

lol ok if you say so =)

  81. Rorschach on November 15th, 2006 at 5:27 pm

And why is the hispanic population growing? illegal immigration that’s why. Amnesty just gives more and more votes to the dems.

  82. Rorschach on November 15th, 2006 at 9:07 pm

BTW, did you not happen to notice that I mentioned that they had passed over a black man to choose a hispanic (from Cuba BTW). I fail to see how complaining that a black person (who I feel was more qualified for the post, no Affirmative Action here) was passed over for a hispanic is racist, seeing as how I’m a white guy. (had I been black that moral high ground might have been a bit shakier.)

    81. No not only because of Illegal immigration but also from 2nd and 3rd generation hispanics and their decendents.

I guess you didnt notice that I did not call you racist. Although people can hate certain groups and not others. Many times they pick and choose. For example the B.S. with hispanics not adapting to “Our Culture”, yet nothing is said about Asians and how they group themselves into their own communities, have street signs in their language, have their own strores, speak their native language, and stick strongly to their culture, but we can overlook that right?
