If true, I would say that this will effectively end her political life as a Republican. Only Democrats are allowed to act like this without repercusions.

  2. Zippy_Slug on November 15th, 2006 at 11:59 am

*Snicker* Hadn’t she already met the President when he campaigned for her? That’s one more time than I’ve met him.

As to being mean to the staff.. Queen sheela doesn’t get any mention about her career of being mean to her staff.

this is not going to be PC but my wife, who is a legal secretary and has worked with and for her share of female attorneys has the opinion that female attorneys are some of the vilest, most difficult to work with bosses she has ever worked for. I would suspect the same would apply for female dermatologists cum politicians…

  4. southerntragedy on November 15th, 2006 at 12:17 pm

At least she’s no longer on City Council…yaaaaa!

  5. vlou on November 15th, 2006 at 12:20 pm

Perhaps she should have undergone a psychological assessment prior to taking on the task to indicate if she was “fit” enough for the job. Where are her people skills? She is a doctor (dermatologist)? What did she learn in med school?

  6. Robert on November 15th, 2006 at 12:23 pm

Wow, a white version of Queen Sheila, who would have thought it. Doesn’t Ms. Gibbs have a dental practice or some medical job??? Great bedside manners!!!!!

  7. Jose on November 15th, 2006 at 12:29 pm

Congresswoman (ENTER THIS WEEK’S LAST NAME HERE) was a joke of a candidate to begin with. I glad she lost the general election. Better Lampson for 2 than Shelly (ENTER THIS WEEK’S LAST NAME HERE) for 30.

  8. The Dude on November 15th, 2006 at 12:30 pm

So it’s not just Shelley Shelley Sekula Sekula Gibbs Gibbs, but Shelley Shelley Sekula Sekula She Who Must Be Obeyed Gibbs Gibbs. The name should be a reflection of the character.

Thanks for the addition! I couldn’t have linked it more appropriately myself.

Always be suspicious of women that use more than two names. Their identity crisis often morphs into things unsightly.

Kev, I’ve checked the timestamps and only the Capitol annex link (had to deep link from Elam’s post to get there), was earlier by 30 minutes, so I think this is a case of great minds thinking alike, not one of plagerism if that is what you are implying.

  14. LivelyDJ on November 15th, 2006 at 1:00 pm

Understand that when Gibbs ran for council the first time she was Shelley Sekula-Rodriguez. She ran off her dead ex-husbands last name Sylvan Rodriguez from the news. At mid term she got remarried and changed to Gibbs. When she first hit the City when I worked there I had to deal with her as part of her transition into the position. SHe was a pain to everyone there as well. She came in with the Queen Sheila attitude but soon learned she didn’t know jack about what was going on or what she needed to do.

On a brighter note (for me), Thankfully I will be moving out of District #22 next year.

I’m glad I don’t live in District #22, I would have probably voted for her. I guess she’ll have to go back to squeezing zits now.

  19. Phil_M on November 15th, 2006 at 2:15 pm

What an embarrassment - nothing more than a Republican version of Queen Sheila. I pray that her political career will be over come January. This is NOT the type of person we need as the face of our party against Nick Lampson in 2 years. Her campaign was a model for its ineptitude, and her month in congress is off to a similar start.

BTW, where are all the Shelley sycophants who insisted she was gonna beat Lampson and told us what a great conservative leader she was and told us how to sing that stupid “vote twice for shelley” jingle? Anybody wanna take bets on how many of them will be back on her bandwagon during the next primary?

I’m sure Tina Benkiser will be standing first in line with the other $3 million of the $4 million she promised from the RNC. And all those precinct chairs here http://www.sekulagibbsforcongress.com/grassroots - let’s see how many of them stick with the Shelley Circus.

I think that there might be a problem here. Was she heavily backed by Big Democrat’s supporter and Al Gore confidant Tilman Fertitta?

Maybe the Republicans went soft on this choice…???

  35. DennisOnTheRight on November 15th, 2006 at 7:17 pm

Phil-M: I was extremely disappointed when the CD22 contest came down to SSG versus Lampson, but it did. I, along with other conservatives, was faced with a tough choice. I opted to try to keep CD22 out of Lampson’s hands as best I could. I endorsed SSG only after there was no one else running as a Republican. I suspect a significant number of her endorsements came about the same way.

In that situation, what would you have done? Supported Lampson by splitting the Republican vote and casting yours for Smither? Raised the white flag a just stayed home?

For you to now brand me and others who had to make the same choice as “Shelley sycophants” and part of the “Shelley Circus” is quite frustrating and frankly should be beneath you. This is a heck of a time for conservatives to start attacking other conservatives.

#34 Sluth: Interesting info, if correct. I thought she was an extremely lame choice to begin with. The GOP locals botched it from start to finish.
Made it really hard to support the GOP on this one, and for me, I just couldn’t stand that phony
    banana nanny state loving RINO.

IMHO, this debacle was THEIR OWN fault; not the voters.

  37. Rorschach on November 15th, 2006 at 8:07 pm

ok, if we’re gonna crack on lawyers, here are a few more:

Q: How can you tell if a lawyer is well hung?
A: You can’t get a finger between the rope and his neck!

Q: If you are stranded on a desert island with Adolph Hitler, Atilla the Hun, and a lawyer, and you have a gun with only two bullets, what do you do?
    A: Shoot the lawyer twice.

Q: How can you tell when a lawyer is lying?
    A: His lips are moving.

Q: What’s the difference between a dead dog in the road and a dead lawyer in the road?
A: There are skid marks in front of the dog.

Q: What do you have when a lawyer is buried up to his neck in sand?
    A: Not enough sand.

  38. willsin on November 15th, 2006 at 9:31 pm

If anybody knows, who selected SSG for District 22 and why? I personally believed Mayor Wallace of Sugar Land was a better candidate.

    1) He’s been in the district and has significant backing there;
    2) His name is easier to figure out for the purpose of the write-in vote;
    3) He ain’t b^%chy.

  39. Al Williams on November 16th, 2006 at 2:36 am

The Harris County Republican party selected her, right?

If so, they all need to fall on their swords and go back to their day jobs, just like those idiot lawyers who couldn’t get DeLay’s name replaced on that ballot even though precedent was set in Joisey…

  40. dugger on November 16th, 2006 at 6:28 am

It’s all Tom The Hammer Delay’s fault. Pin a medal on his butt, soak it in gasoline and give me the match.

I can see where you are coming from, but you had to feel like you just bought a ticket on the Titanic with full knowledge what was to happen. The party was myopic in their relentless push to get someone, anyone, on the ticket with an ‘R’ by their name.

When the court case was lost to be able to replace DeLay on the ballot, that should’ve been it, period, and that’s where it went terribly wrong. Make the best of it, have a Republicans for Smither push as he was ON the ballot. If not, just spend the money to paint Lampson for what he is, they did a poor job there too in my opinion.

Smither is a helluva lot closer to conservative than Shelley will ever be and I blame GOP leadership who insulted us claiming Shelley was this great conservative. It was all about the ‘R’ to them and that was plain stupid.

All that effort of time and resources wasted for someone who was not even worth it. Again, I blame GOP leadership, and yes, it was a circus.

  42. Jaime on November 16th, 2006 at 8:32 am

And all those radio people that claim that only Democrats vote for someone just because they have an “D” next to their name.

  43. Jaime on November 16th, 2006 at 8:33 am

And Smither did give his word to vote for a Republican for Speaker.

  44. Ken Kelley on November 16th, 2006 at 6:28 pm

Allow me, please, to publicly apologize to anyone in District22, to whom I recommended voting for Shelley Sekula-Gibbs. Probably still better than a screaming Liberal Democrat, but obviously, not by much.

More importantly, perhaps we should be looking at those who promoted her. (Benkiser, are you listening?) If she’s this bad, why in the h*11 was she selected as the write-in??!!!!

How long before the next Primary?……….

    – Ken

  45. Phil_M on November 17th, 2006 at 11:42 am

    #35 - Dennis -

I understand where you’re coming from in making a last ditch effort to save the seat, but I wrote as someone who’s viewed the entire SSG write-in campaign as a non starter from day one…as did most political observers from around the state. CD22 was not lost on November 2nd. It was lost back in August when Benkiser mismanaged the court case and duped the party into backing SSG with a $4 million RNC pledge that never materialized.

You may have switched to her only at the end, and I’ll commend you for that, but there were indeed Shelley sycophants who were with her from DAY ONE including Benkiser and certain persons involved with the state party leadership. In particular, a certain SREC member spent the majority of the week before the now-infamous meeting in Pearland where they picked SSG ensuring that option would be chosen by poisoning the well against any other candidates and against Smither (who Jerry Patterson wanted the party to endorse). Once the meeting convened Benkiser was on hand to swing the whole thing to Shelley with dishonest promises of cash that never materialized.

Also as it turned out, those who voted for Smither did so with a clear conscience because Lampson was able to win with an outright majority. Of course anyone who wasn’t caught up in the Shelley Circus would have conceded that the seat was long gone by then. Robert Novak - no liberal - wrote the seat off back in August. So did Royal Masset. So did Congressional Quarterly and all the other ratings publications. In the end all Shelley did for the party was make us look like a joke and zap resources and attention from other races.

Think about it. What if all those people who were pushing cards and block walking for Shelley - a guaranteed loser candidacy no matter what she did - had driven 10 minutes north of her district and given their time to Talmadge Heflin or Martha Wong? What if Benkiser had acted like a responsible steward of the GOP and focused her attention on the close state rep seats that we actually had a chance of pulling off? In addition to Wong, we lost 4 other incumbents around the state and failed virtually every pickup opportunity we had in a half dozen others. We have the Shelley Circus to blame for that as it ate up our volunteers, redirected the party’s attention to a certain non-starter, and ended up producing absolutely nothing to show for it. In fact we’re actually WORSE OFF that she won the special election. She should’ve been a place keeper but instead she’s a 2 month lame-duck congresswoman with an attitude whose only accomplishment to date is making a run at Queen Sheila’s throne for being the biggest witch in Congress this side of Hillary. I’d rather have a vacancy than that, because at least a vacancy doesn’t make us look bad.

  46. Phil_M on November 17th, 2006 at 11:46 am

#39 - No. It wasn’t the HCRP that picked her. It was the Republican Party of Texas. Specifically, it was Tina Benkiser who put the stamp on the Shelley deal, then sold the precinct chairman on it by fibbing about the $4 million that never materialized.

All you delegates out there - remember that at the next state Republican convention.

  47. Phil_M on November 17th, 2006 at 11:52 am

#44 - Bingo. Shelley’s attitude was well known to anybody who has ever done anything with Houston City Council. Benkiser was not ignorant of that fact. Perhaps too inept to realize it would hurt us, but certainly not ignorant of it.

Neither was she ignorant of Shelley’s well known policy flip-flops and tendency toward big government nanny state regulations. The RPT leadership pushed her on us anyway, and ended up giving the dems a free congressional seat in the process.

And just to show how grateful she is, now SSG is trying to get the House leadership to investigate DeLay’s former staff on “ethics violations” as payback for walking out on Her Royal Highness. You reap what you sow, and Tina Benkiser planted a real piece of work at our feet when she annointed this one. Move over Queen Sheila - Queen Shelley’s making a run on your crown!

I hope she remembers to click on lonestartimes.com to see what Texans really think of her. She’s probably already forgot about Texas though. It’s just all about her. I’m glad I didn’t have to vote for or against her.
