Early last year, Metro officials decided to cut security at Park & Ride lots. You can guess the result:
Major crimes, including robbery, auto theft, theft and burglary, increased from 115 in 2004 to 226 in 2005. As of Oct. 13, the total was 147. Theft was by far the most frequent offense, accounting for 83 percent of the crimes.
But now, Metro is on the case. Metro Police Department’s swift, ruthless response will come in the form of…
Cameras:
“One advantage of this system is that the components are off-the-shelf, making repair easier, and if someone were to damage a camera it could quite conceivably see the person in the act,” she said.
Got that, Houston? Your personal safety and the security of your property are now quite conceivable. I’m impressed!

If they get their license number, they can send them a civil ticket also.
Where does the city get these people?
Mygawd, we’re turning into England
Nothing like a real security people to ferret out the criminals…cameras could show you being dragged away, so how is that going to deter crime?

It will not deter crime — all the criminals need to do is wear masks! Cover up their license plate numbers. There are many ways to get around this, and believe me, the crooks will be doing every one. Metro Police is a joke. They are always on the HOV lanes checking cars, but never in a place where they could do some good, like Metro parking lots.
Neo you sound very knowledgeable about this? HMMM?? (teasing)
Yea I love the Brit invasion. Put them around all the gov’t buildings with no guards and if they work there I’ll buy in.
Keep packin folks!

Yeah, ex was with HPD for 37 years before retiring. I’m a paralegal at a lawfirm. That is the extent of my “expertise.”
I haven’t been very impressed with Metro security people, frankly. A lot of fat people they look like to me.
Okay, FINE, maybe not EVERY ONE is fat, but too many are.
I hate that stupid train. How many people is that train going to kill before we get to vote to derail it? It’s already ran over, what, 200 people? (or cars)
Thunderhawk,
Actually, the ones I have run into on the HOV lane (290) were very buff! Don’t remember seeing any fat ones. Don’t go near the train, so the “landscape” could be different!
