Just another day in beautiful Houston:
After racking up 379 homicides in 2006, Houston made it through the first day of 2007 without a homicide–but just barely.
It was at about 1 a.m. today when two east Houston youths heard gunshots outside their bedroom window in the 300 block of Super. Police minutes later discovered a man dying in from gunshot wounds in their back yard.
The name of the year’s first homicide victim was not released. He died at Ben Taub Hospital, police said.
If you missed this one, don’t worry. There will be plenty more. On a totally unrelated note, I’d like to welcome HPD Chief Harold Hurtt back to town. I trust his Arizona Christmas was restful and uninterrupted by hails of gunfire.

Hurt Has to go. Perhaps Mayor White will make it his new years resolution.
Why is Hurt out of town more than out of town brown? He has had plenty of time to move his family
Looks like the Chron still hasn’t hired a copy editor.
“Police minutes later discovered a man dying in from gunshot wounds in their back yard.”
Pulitzer stuff, that.
I heard gunfire amongst the illegal fireworks. I thought about calling the cops, but then, I couldn’t tell them exactly where the shots were coming from and I figured they were probably overwhelmed by calls about 12:00 am….

#3-and your journalistic credentials are…..?
A murder a day keeps Chief Hurtt away…
#5 And your critic credentials are?
The Mayor is responsible for allowing Chief Hurtt to be away every weekend. You can’t do a 24/7 job like Chief of Police if you are not on the job 24/7…we need to have both of them ousted. Let’s write to our City council representatives and suggest something be done.

So we need “credentials” to expect coherent sentences from folks who are paid to write them?
