“But Jon Matthews still needs to go to jail.”

No, recycle the rope used on Saddam…..

  2. fasternu426 on January 3rd, 2007 at 4:52 pm

…as Jon used to say, he would be “permanently rehabilitated”.

  3. malcolm on January 3rd, 2007 at 5:31 pm

Faster-very-nice-black-440-with-original-headliner: Agreed 100%. I was a BIG Jon Matthews fan before, even had lunch with the guy with a client when he was at KSEV when they first started up….. Now he needs to take his own advice! I can’t imagine what goes through someone’s head to make them contemplate doing such things much less following through.

  4. Silo on January 3rd, 2007 at 5:37 pm

I e-mailed Moby about this when he was arrested the first time and he was very surprised. He said he never suspected this behavior while they worked together. He was saddened to hear about it because they were friends.

I always thought Jon was a bit ‘off’ anyway. I met him a couple of times when he was on 97 and he was kinda creepy then.

  5. Royko on January 3rd, 2007 at 5:57 pm

After all this I too was enraged, and agree he must be locked up because he can not control himself, and one child abused is one too many.

Nevertheless, upon reflection, I’d like to remind everyone to hate the sin, but love the sinner.

We should all make an effort to pray for Jon, his wife, and family.

  6. ThunderHawkk on January 3rd, 2007 at 5:57 pm

Of course he was “OFF..” Anyone who plays rock and roll garbage to kids is mentally unstable. As a 16 year old, I used to listen to that sick freak while driving to high school in the morning. I always suspected he was a freaking perv.

I mean, come on. A grown man trying to impress high school kids with how “cool” he is by playing “rock” music??

Plus, he was a smoker. I remember some kid calling in and singing “There’s a little black spot on Jon’s lung today…”

A grown man trying to impress high school kids by smoking and playing rock music. It’s not hard to figure out what he is. He wasn’t trying to set a good example, no, he was into smoking and rock music.

  7. FourAlarm on January 3rd, 2007 at 6:59 pm

    Very sad and very tragic.

  8. Squawkbox Noise on January 3rd, 2007 at 7:22 pm

    Thunderhawk
WHAT? First before I rant let me fire up a Marlboro and turn up some Ted Nugent here.

What are you talking about? Are you implying that I am a freak too? I enjoy my smokes and Rock and Roll too. In fact I know many of the DJs from the Matthews days and for them then as now it was a
J–O–B. What is this setting an example junk?

Matthews is a pathetic little man that got himself trapped with demons that he cannot escape. He is not to be pitied because he chose his path years ago and now he cannot escape. But to paint with a broad brush “Anyone who plays rock and roll garbage to kids is mentally unstable” is wrong. I know another fellow my age that DJs and he makes good money and he is an upstanding fellow. My only gripe with him is that he smokes Kools and not my brand. BTW if he did not DJ he would not have any income, he is disabled.

If you don’t like Rock and you don’t like smokers I can accept that but puhlease don’t throw everyone in the same boat as Matthews.

  9. Dave D on January 3rd, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Man O Man, It is worse than I thought, what evil lurks in the hearts of men? I too, was a fan because he seemed to be a no B#ll Sh*t kinda guy, he had his facts right, about 90% of the time the other 10% he let his opinion get in the way and could be dead wrong. When this broke, I, like Dan gave him the benefit of the doubt, and of course I wondered if he was set up. When he pleads guilty, I still couldn’t be 100% sure that he didn’t cop a plea top stay out of jail. Then when I read about the crap this summer and now the awful details of this latest escapade, I’d say it’s time for him to meet his new room-mate, “Bruce” all 300 hundred pounds of him!
BTW; Just out of “morbid curiosity”, what exactly would turn a guy on, about dropping his pants? Or did he think the young girl would be turned by his ugly, old fat, A$$. Inquiring minds want to know!
    GET A ROPE!!
OOPS! Time out,… I need to grab the trash can!! Sorry, I had to throw-up. Just heard Paula Zayn on the tube bit*hing about how the “ICE” treated the wetbacks bad!

  10. Dave D on January 3rd, 2007 at 7:37 pm

Just one more thing, a guy has a DAMN good job, makes a lot of money and is respected in his community and he does this!? What do I not understand? I have no idea about his home life, but I would think that in the city the size of Houston, couldn’t you at least find a hooker? I don’t know, I’ve never looked, but they say it’s out there. I don’t think that would be a Felony. Oh well,I guess some people are just sick!

  11. Dave D on January 3rd, 2007 at 7:41 pm

Silo, Cool, How do you know Moby, and do you know The Grease-man, I used to listen to him when he was a nobody on a station in Jacksonville Florida (mid 70’s). I think that Moby copied him, but I don’t know for sure.

Squawk I agree with you 100%.

Thunderhawk I guess with your way of thinking, being a smoker and listening to rock and roll means I am going to go out and molest little boys. How ignorant is that way of thinking.

  13. Dov on January 3rd, 2007 at 8:14 pm

The defendant described sexual acts between the strippers and the three-year-old boy,” the report said. Matthews does not have a 3-year-old son.

Now here we are back to the question of “How many lives has a child predator ruined befor he/she is caught ?” Over a dozen.

Commit a sexual act with one of my children and you will meet your maker. atthews is undeserving of the air he breathes.

  14. Dov on January 3rd, 2007 at 8:15 pm

#8 ^5 SquawkMaster! I don’t say much in this Gin Joint, but I lubs da truth when I hear it! WTG Squawk!

  16. digitaldon37 on January 3rd, 2007 at 8:56 pm

Squawk, I think Thunderhawkk was joking.

I remember the M&M days of 97 KSRR and attending some of their events at Faces (a club down on Richmond - I think it’s a Staples now) and seeing a drunkard Matthews stumbling out of the womens restroom with a bimbo on each arm. Definitely the opposite of his stodgy on-air persona.

Sad and disgusting to see his downfall, but I’m more concerned for all the children whose lives he ruined.

  17. Silo on January 3rd, 2007 at 9:04 pm

    DaveD
I just listened to him when he was on 97 and then on 101 when he came back from Dallas. Once I learned of Jon Matthews demise I just went to his website, mobyinthemorning.com, and shot him an e-mail.

I would think Thunderhawk would be back on here and maybe apologize for his poorly thought out and extremely mis-directed comments. But hey maybe he’s just too elite and doesn’t have the time, I surely hope not though.

  18. vlou on January 3rd, 2007 at 9:21 pm

Hey, Thunderhawk, let’s not categorize all people who smoke (I don’t but that’s not the point) and play R&R music as being child molesters. That is being narrow-minded and ignorant.

  19. Neocon on January 3rd, 2007 at 9:57 pm

This POS should be in jail by now!

  20. Dave D on January 3rd, 2007 at 10:33 pm

#19 Neocon, In due time, I can’t imagine him not getting some jail time after al this BS, but will it be enough? The whole 10 years? I don’t think it’s safe to have this animal on the streets.

  21. Wino on January 3rd, 2007 at 10:35 pm

I am more saddened than anything else.

I want to remind a few of you of one thing. Jon Matthews may be the person who did these terrible things, but he is also a human who deserves our best wishes for their future, whatever the future he has forged may be.

When the towers were attacked on 9/11, Jon Matthews was on the air. When the first news article hit, Jon said something to the effect of “was it a small plane? Do we have anything else?”

A few minutes later, Jon said, “The second tower has been hit by an airplane. We are under attack.”

Simple as that, he nailed it immediately.

No. Sad is all I can feel. Judging him is not my responsibility, neither is his punishment, nor his rehabilitation.

(The above “quotes” are paraphrases of the statements I remember from 9/11/2001, and are not meant to represent the actual quotes, but rather the message content.)

  22. ThunderHawkk on January 3rd, 2007 at 11:12 pm

First of all, I hate people who molest kids. Jon Matthews does that - therefore, I hate him.

As far as smoking goes, I say “Smoke up, Johnny,” if that’s what you need to do. But I believe in setting good examples to impressionable kids. He bragged about liking smoking on the air. I remember him doing that.

    Thunderhawkk stands alone….

  23. left-2-right on January 4th, 2007 at 4:59 am

Most talk-shows are phonies. They “play” to the market they are in, but their real persona is known by only a few.

  24. flygal on January 4th, 2007 at 6:09 am

I am so tired of these abusers being home and continuing to commit their crime.
I am also very tired of abusers crying “Oh pity me and bend your rules because I was abused, so it is not my fault”
I was abused sexually from age 4-10
My greatest crime was shoplifting a swiss army knife at age 9 because I really wanted it. Boy was my mom mad, and I never did it again.
True I have been in therapy, but it helps those who are willing to say I do not want to injure another life as my life has been injured (not ruined; ruination would have been my choice.)
I believe anyone convicted of any kind of child sexual abuse should be locked up for life; any child rape should be put to death. This will prevent any further children from being hurt

  25. Dave D on January 4th, 2007 at 7:54 am

#21 Wino, I agree with you about 95% of the time, and I too liked Jon, but he was a smart man, why didn’t he try to get help? The least he could have done was to not open the door, to a young girl, when he was home alone. Then to break his probation several times? I’m sure he’s going to jail, but I just don’t know for how long. This may save what’s left of his life, BTW.
BTW; I’m impressed with you and Jaime’s knowledge of the “War of Northern Aggression”, very, very few people know the facts. My baby girl, who is in college as studied it quite a bit and she amazes me sometime.

  26. rj on January 4th, 2007 at 8:11 am

I listened to this clown when he was on the AM morning station, and thought he was a jerk then.
I’ll be damned if I feel pity or sorry for him.
Anybody who does, should re-think how their appear when expressing their concerns about “best wishes for his future”.
child molester’s are not your/our friends.
    rj

  27. Silo on January 4th, 2007 at 8:51 am

#26 You mean they aren’t your friends once you find out they are a child molestor. I worked with a guy everyday for about 3 years and when he was arrested for molesting his own 9 year old daughter I just knew they had it wrong, but at his court-martial I heard things that I wish I could unhear. He was guilty. And no longer my friend after that.
My point is you don’t really know if you are friends with a child molestor until they get caught.

  28. navymom on January 4th, 2007 at 8:53 am

Perfect example on why probation does not work. He knew he was faced with jail time, and that did not slow him down one bit.

As usual, let’s go easy on first offenders, they won’t EVER do it again! Just like DWI cases, how many DWI’s can a person have? Seems like as many as he wants, as long as he has money to pay a lawyer or until he kills someone.

Just because this guy has been on the radio doesn’t make me pity him or doubt his guilt one bit. Makes no difference to me - the man is guilty, quite obviously to us now - I just didn’t buy in to “well, maybe it was all a mistake”, or “not THAT guy - he wouldn’t do a thing like that!”

  29. David Benzion on January 4th, 2007 at 9:19 am

flygal– sorry to hear about your abuse, glad to see you got help and became a survivor, not a victim.

Your comments prompt me to clarify–I didn’t intend to imply (and didn’t say) that because most abusers were themselves abused that their actions ought to be excused. A person can very well be abused and not grow up to abuse.

I was simply trying to convey my understanding of the “where in the world do these sick impulses come from” question. They almost always come from someone having done similar things to the abuser when they were a child.

  30. bigmck on January 4th, 2007 at 9:48 am

Jon always was kind of weird, even on the radio.
There was the day he did not do any advertisements
on the whole show. Then there was the club called “Whiskey Dick’s” who bought time on the show. Jon was do the advertisement as “Whiskey Richards” as if the name Dick were a curse word. Strange guy.

  31. rj on January 4th, 2007 at 10:34 am

    #27;
I said “child molester’s are not your/our friends.”

Do we all understand that one has to be convicted in the courts to be known as a child molester?

  32. rarcav on January 4th, 2007 at 11:38 am

When Dan, Mike and Jon left KPRC and revived KSEV, Dan and Mike returned with there same demeanors and personalities. Matthews seemed to become rude and argumentative. I used to enjoy the morning show with Jon until this psycho melted down and started shouting down more and more callers.
    P.S.
Jon used to tell a story about when he was a kid, he was at a summer camp program or the YMCA or something where the counselors made the kids swim naked. I wonder if he was exposing himself to kids etc. then and thats what caused him to tell that creepy story on the air!

  33. mary on January 4th, 2007 at 12:04 pm

I used to be a staunch fan of his, but I was guilty of believing in the “character” he played. I am wondering about the lady caller who was always talking about her little daughter, Olivia, and he was falling all over himself volunteering to babysit her. This happened a number of times.
We have a friend who specializes in pediphilia, and he says there is no cure for these people and that they just need to be warehoused in prison.
Our grandson, at the age of four, was sexually abused by a “female” worker at a Christian church daycare. My family was smart in not giving me her name or letting me become involved in the outcome. I am the one who discovered he had been abused and sodomized. The sign on my country fence warns of bad dogs, but the p.s. on the sign says forget the dogs and warns of the mean old granny woman with a Ruger and a few other toys she has on hand. My family was right to keep me out of it after the initial doctor visit with the boy. My children used to say that Dad was the one who yelled and screamed and threw things, but it was Mom who would kill you. I’m not that bad, but people who hurt little children, especially my grandchildren….heh!!!!

  34. Narly on January 4th, 2007 at 12:53 pm

    What a waste!

  35. ThunderHawkk on January 4th, 2007 at 1:09 pm

Volunteering to babysite Olivia?? I never heard that part of his show. See? I bet if we look around we can find LOTS of child molestors all around us. We just don’t think that way because we don’t like to think that people could be so evil…. But… Who else is strange that way… I know one… He’s dead, but I always suspected the actor [DELETED BY BENZION; THUNDERHAWKK, YOU CAN'T JUST GO AROUND ACCUSING PEOPLE BY NAME OF BEING CHILD MOLESTERS WITHOUT ANY EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER, THANK YOU.]
And also, anyone remember BUCK HENRY on Saturday Night Live back in the mid 70s? It’s almost impossible to believe now, but he would have skits where he was the babysitter for Gilda Radner, dressed as a little girl, and he would always be asking to feel her underwear? Anyone remember that garbage? The audience would laugh and laugh…

    ALL PERVS!

[BENZION ADDS: I THINK THE POINT OF THE SKIT WAS PEOPLE LAUGHING *AT* THE CREEPY CHILD MOLESTER CHARACTER, NOT *WITH* THEM. ALTHOUGH I'VE HEARD THAT BUCK HENRY SOMETIMES SMOKED AND PLAYED ROCK & ROLL RECORDS]

  36. Big45Iron on January 4th, 2007 at 1:18 pm

I was surprised Dan didn’t run him off a long time earlier. I don’t know how many weather/traffic girls he ran off with his constant sexual harrassment on the air, including Janice Dean. Gitmo is about the only place I can think of for Jon since he can’t seem to keep himself under control.

  37. navymom on January 4th, 2007 at 1:22 pm

#36 Send him on, my son is stationed at Gitmo!! I know he would have the perfect greeting for Mr. Matthews when he got there! HEH

  38. Ree-C Murphey on January 4th, 2007 at 11:29 pm

    I am so disappointed…

I can’t help but wonder, how did he get “here”? Are there more victims? Is so, who? what? how? How does someone go from being respectable to this? Can anyone just “fall apart” like this?

I guess my point is, there is a lot going on. I believe he needs to be in jail. What is going on?

  39. radiovixen on January 5th, 2007 at 12:19 pm

I’m surprised the Chronicle didn’t use this opportunity to tie Dan Patrick to the story. So out of character for them!
