Was it a probing mission, a diversion by drug smugglers, or something else? Whatever it was, it’s bad news:
A U.S. Border Patrol entry Identification Team site was overrun Wednesday night along Arizona’s border with Mexico.
According to the Border Patrol, an unknown number of gunmen attacked the site in the state’s West Desert Region around 11 p.m. The site is manned by National Guardsmen. Those guardsmen were forced to retreat.
The Border Patrol will not say whether shots were fired. However, no Guardsmen were injured in the incident.
Here’s video of KPNX’s story.

They are just looking for work.
Just ask George
Just how many lives are going to be lost before America wakes up to the fact that mexico is mostly a lawless country and that we need a wall.
Ask me? Why would you ask me? My answer would be “build a effing wall! Why all the procrastination?
Headline News:
/not
One other thing - would somebody tell Perry that bullets might come in handy now that we’re being invaded? And tell the Mexican President why we’re so ticked off and why the border should be militarized?
OT: Anybody else with IE7 having problems with typing? Letters keep getting dropped and I have to keep backing up to retype; slowing down doesn’t even help. Letters just aren’t typing. I feel like I’m typing through molasses, and I normally generate a small breeze when I’m moving my fingers. It’s really annoying!
Does Edd need some money to for some weapons on those border planes?
this is unbelievable. We are the laughing stock of the world now. Those mexican bandits must really be laughing at the stupid gringos with no bullets. What kind of a fool would put these soldiers in harms way with no protection. We should put the governor out there with no weapons and tell him to stop the illegal criminals. RUUUUNNNN boy run.

The National Guardsmen may have been ‘armed’, but did they have ammunition for their weapons?
If not, I would sooner have had a shillelaigh rather than an empty M16, M1 or BAR.
(Wow! Mentionning an M1 and a BAR, I’ve certainly dated myself.)
I really cannot believe that the USA even tries to act like we have a “homeland security” branch. We can’t even stop a bunch of thugs from crossing our border, much less a trained military force such as middle eastern terrorists. However the government still wants budget appropriations for the “war on terror” What a joke. If our nation is to ever display any resemblance to security, we must secure our borders. How pathetic our soldiers on the border must feel. No nation can claim sovreignty nor security without secure borders, yet we, allegedly the strongest have a border patrolled by trained military troops which must turn tail and run when confronted by peasants with weapons. I am appalled.
grrrrr….is there ever any happiness and goodwill?
I watched the Video, no facts, no evidence but alot conjecture - lets see if more evidence comes forward
I seriously doubt a armed force of United States Soldiers would run from an enemy invading our country
Sorry, Sunny.
Anyone know how to sing “Kumbaya” in Spanish?
lol Matt…I can try…If you like!

You, sir, are living in a state of denial.
#12 Sorry Matt - Michael Row the Boat Ashore is the best I could do:
I seriously hate posting this, but until we get some of our troops killed on the border, there will not be enough “public opinion” to convince our phony-balonie politicians to get serious about armed forces protecting our borders.
A wall is a feel-good, do-nothing joke. Any wall built can be scaled. Any property owner along the Rio Grande will not tolerate a wall between them and their river. All a 10 foot wall means is there will be a “run” on 12 foot ladders.

The NATIONAL GUARD, man! Chances are they were not even prepared for any attempted assault.
This isn’t the Marines, or the Army. They DON”T run!!
Get your head out of your arse. This DID happen.

Correct amundo! Our government DOES NOT CARE about the borders. They do not wish to upset the Mexican government. Walls, fences… no good. Only thing to stop all these “raids” and ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, is to enforce our EXISTING laws, and possibly add a couple more to allow prison time for Illegals upon return to the USA after one deportation. The fist time they should be finger printed and photographed. Second time prison (hard labor).
Instead, we (our government) bow to the Mexican government and GIVE ILLEGALS ANYTHING THEY NEED at American tax payers expense.
Sadly, I feel that having any troops KILLED at the border would NOT make much difference, where our politically correct, self serving, non-patriotic elected officials are concerned.
“Those guardsmen were forced to retreat”
That says it all. Forced by whom? The MExicans or by our gov’t sticking them out there unprepared? They should not have had to retreat. There should have been video of a pile of Mexican bodies wating to be picked up.
Not to worry.
Per NPR last night the Dims are attempting to make common cause with business - you don’t obstruct us raising minimum wage and we won’t obstruct your hiring of illegal aliens.
I imagine that means we can just send the National Guard home and do away with the Border Patrol as well.
After all, we don’t want to obstruct those illegal aliens coming over just looking for work.
This border incident would not have happened if we were not attempting to interfere with some poor fellows just trying to make a living!
Chuck
Un. Believe. Able.
“They left for their safety.”
Uh huh. The picture that comes to mind are two unarmed soldiers (except for a coffee pot and laptop).
I agree with Fasternu426…there should have been a pile of Mexican bodies with a sign above them that said “You want proof? Here’s your proof!”
We are slowly being invaded. I say put the full power of the military on the border and let the Border Patrol go back to processing tourists at the checkpoints.
#17 That National Guard is usually made up of alot of former active duty military. They are trained - usually BEFORE they get into the National Guard - and then they have additional training in the National Guard.
Any suggestion that they are less than they are is an insult to the men and women who sign up and serve.
The issue isn’t whether our NG is trained - they are. The issue is that they are sent down there with toy guns… might as well be without any bullets.
Who clipped the wings? What on earth has happened to us?
I just can’t find words to express how demoralizing the idea of our own troops retreating from our own border is.
These poor soldiers would probably be facing charges today had they actually stayed and killed these invaders.
Another unbelievable story: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4446513.html
How about we just let armed Texas citizens guard the border and have a few backhoes on standby to bury the bodies. Problem solved.
#23 - ‘It was unclear whether the U.S. government would approve such a project. In the past, similar campaigns to help migrants in distress have been criticized by U.S. anti-immigration groups as condoning illegal migration.’
Ahhhemmm, Correction! ‘criticized by U.S. anti-illegal immigration groups’ heavy emphises on illegal! To even HINT or imply that this as race issue is so, so wrong.
Neo,
except it would have been the biggest News story in modern times
No photos, no camera phone shots, no foot prints, no torn clothing, cuts in wire fence no followup story every single news camera crew would be there right now…
except for that
I’m skeptical

it happened in Arizona, I don’t think her majesty Janet would allow armed Texans patrol the border
I believe the Border Patrol. The guy they quoted is a public affairs officer for the Tucson sector.
When a Border Patrol guy — in an official capacity — says “yeah, we got overrun,” I take that seriously.
I have to take issue with your idea that “it would have been the biggest News story in modern times.” That’s sadly not the case.
In January 2006, the Border Patrol, acting on previous incidents (including one in 2002 where an agent was shot at by a Mexican soldier) warned its agents to be aware of military incursions.
I wish you were right — I wish that these were widely reported.
By the governor’s office of Arizona. They were told that such an attack was likely, and they developed “protocols” for just such an occasion. Those protocols were to “call for backup and retreat”. Those are their standing orders. If this was a probe of our non-existent defenses, then those b*st*rds know exactly what we’ll do when we’re attacked.
NOTHING.
Heaven forbid we put troops on the border to actually protect the border. Should they dare to try, we’ll be sure to prosecute them and throw them in prison like the two BP agents.
Our goverment has gone mad!
#21 - You are spot on. My son joined the National Guard after serving in the Marines Corp Security Forces. So he is one well-trained soldier. And, just like you said - the government won’t let them take ammunition to put in their weapons; something that I think is more dangerous than not having weapons at all.
When is our government (the U.S. one) going to start being held accountable to the citizens who pay taxes? This should have not happened the way it did…they should have been told to shoot them. Now, they are going to be back again (illegally crossing the border) and then what?
I’ve been out on the border in Fabens, Texas, and have lots of video of Mexican military (or cartel in military uniforms.. either way, word seems to be they work together). Video of these guys 10 feet on the south side of the Rio Grande.. and my guess is their G3’s were loaded…

I’m sure our military men could kick some butt if armed correctly (I saw Guard out in Laredo a few months ago.. with pistols, no long arms I believe), and given orders to be able to stand their ground.
I’m sure Chertoff will say that the incursion yesterday “was an accident.. those troops meant to assault a Guard post on the South side .. they just got lost, just like the other 200+ documented incursions.. they said sorry.”
If Perry won’t give them bullets, maybe he can at least pitch in for some of those bullet-deflecting bras so our troops will be able to stand their ground. (Sort of gives a whole new meaning to “support our troops”, doesn’t it?)
I’ve Trained these Arizona guy’s the Iraq veterans, They are ticked because the don’t have ammunition. Some Border Patrol Agents won’t take them into high risk operations because the chain of command will not allow them to be armed. The Governor that is. Crappy Nappy
The core problem is that the President is incompetent and corrupt.
Impeachment of George W. Bush is one intiative by Nancy Polosi I could support.
It time for Conservatives to come out of the corrupt discredited stuck on stupid Republican/RINO Party and joint together with patriots and Christians to form a National Unity Party
I for one am on about my last straw on the Republican party. I used to be concerned that another party on the right would split votes and only help the demoncrats. But I can’t even tell if the Republican party is really on the right at all anymore. Taxes? No, they’re higher. Spending? It’s out of control. Securing the border? What a joke! There seems to be a massive void on the right, and I would welcome the rise on a truly conservative party.
Matt
the Border Patrol spokesperson said
“I have no information confirming this incident”
I think that summed it up
The person also went on to say that they were called to investigate and no more details were forthcoming
Also
All manned sites are under video survelliance, additionally there was no press conference the guy was talking on his day off from his cell phone in an ambush interview and no official statement has been released and not a single newsgroup other than Drudge had picked it up.
The fact that the guy was blathering on and on pretty much belied the fact he was not talking with official sanction.
Matt
The Fox news article pretty much sums it up
“We don’t know exactly how many because obviously it took place in the dark,” Balaban said. “Nobody was able to get an accurate count.”
The Guard troops are not allowed to apprehend illegal entrants.
“We don’t know if this was a matter of somebody coming up accidentally on the individuals, coming up intentionally on the individuals, or some sort of a diversion,” said Rob Daniels, spokesman for the Border Patrol’s Tucson Sector.
I also saw Rob Daniels say they had no information at this time on Euro News a different interview than the one showed in your video but the same station I think.
This is different from the heavily edited cut and pasted phone interview with Ron Burgundys action news crew.

Interesting article from 2005
Two other Border Patrol Spokesman bascially refute and deny Rob Daniels views of Border Violence
interesting reading
Now heres an example of a real news story:
NEW ORLEANS - In the last week more Americans have died in New Orleans than in Iraq. Since Dec. 29, there have been eight military deaths. In the Big Easy, there have been 14 murders.
Among the latest victims: Helen Hill, a 36-year-old mother shot in her home in front of her husband and 2-year-old.
“She was just such a wonderful person,” says friend Sheri Branch, “the brightest spot of New Orleans to me.”
EricP,
“Two other Border Patrol Spokesman bascially refute and deny Rob Daniels views of Border Violence”
Do you think that maybe these Spokesman are doing a little spin control?
I think 12 million illegal aliens marching in the streets waiving Mexican flags lends some credibility to the idea that maybe, just maybe, we have a bit of a border security problem.
EricP,
I agree that New Orleans is probably more dangerous than Iraq. I am waiting for Pelosi and Reid that “it is time to bring the war to a close” in New Orleans.

Naw Rob Daniels has been making outlandish claims never backed up since as far back as 1997
He’s one of the moonbats flappin in the Arizona Desert sky
