Time to thank… CNN
by David Benzion · 01/04/2007 10:20 amThe other day we alerted readers to an Anderson Cooper 360 special on CNN that touched upon the death of Cpl. Jonathan Bowling, who Edd Hendee blogged about here.
I’ve got it TiVo’d and haven’t had a chance to see it for myself, but by all accounts–including Darrell Bowling, Jonathan’s father–it was a solid bit of straight-up journalism, focused on the men and their families, not politics for or against the war.
The right-wing blogosphere would (correctly) be the first to jump on CNN if they had exploited this story to push a liberal agenda… so we ought to be the first to let them know we appreciate it when they get things right.
You can send Cooper and CNN feedback directly by clicking here.
If any of you saw the program, feel free to share your thoughts in comments.

My question is, why couldn’t they have done that before? Why do they have to skew everything? Just report the facts. Thanks to the families that have active duty serving overseas in combat and support roles. We owe our deepest gratitudes to them.
Reporters don’t get it. They don’t know the good guys from the bad. They have to report the bad stuff or it doesn’t exist, or show the big guy taking it on the nose to be considered edgy and newsworthy. Sometimes the good guys are hiding in plain sight. For once they got it right.
Maybe the first step to regaining credibility.
we ought to be the first to let them know we appreciate it when they get things right.
Why?
When you endorsed Kinky Friedman, you said that Perry’s conservative stance on some issues was the BARE MINIMUM and ought not be rewarded in light of a few other transgressions.
It strikes me that CNN’s presentation of a story without an inordinate amount of political spin surely ought also to fall under the the Benzion BARE MINIMUM standard, shouldn’t it?
Good that CNN did a nice job with this story. Here’s hoping they keep it up.
David:
I couldn’t agree more!
The transcripts for the show are here: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0701/02/acd.01.html
and here: http://edition.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0701/02/acd.02.html
Tom Foreman, CNN Correspondent, blogs about the story here: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/2007/01/story-that-needs-to-be-tol_116776257061659105.html , including the fact that he keeps the pictures of the 4 marines on the wall (including Bowling). Comments are accepted at the blog entry. (Be aware, the lefties dominate the comments, but it is not the place to confront them the way they do).
Either Cooper is looking to jump to Fox, or now that they have their lefty traitors in office, it’s time to repair the ratings.
Maybe I missed something, I just read the transcript. Based on that, this fits their liberal agenda perfectly.
It focuses attention on the terrible loss of life and the personal cost to some and is aimed at getting Citizens to think with their emotions: “Oh, this is terrible we have to stop this kind of thing from happening - lets pull out tomorrow!”

#5-I think they reported exactly what happened. Is it the conservative agenda to want people to think no soldiers or civilians are dying in the war. ?
